Did Wenger have Arsenal playing for a draw from the start?

Arsene Wenger has been accused of travelling to Old Trafford with the intention of snatching a draw for Arsenal.

The Gunners took a point away from Manchester from the early game on Saturday, and will be happy with their return given the balance of the game was not in their favour.

Coming into the game, the North-London side had much the better record so far this season, and could have come into the game looking to break their hoodoo at Old Trafford, but Graeme Souness believes they barely tried to win the game.

“I got the feeling throughout the game that Arsenal were going to be happy with a draw,” Souness claimed.

“They were lacking ambition. When you think of the results coming up to this game and the firepower they have within the team.

“They’ll be going back down south really happy with themselves because they dug out a result and that always gives you a good feeling but they didn’t put a marker down for me.

“They did not turn up at one of the big stadiums, against one of their big historical rivals and say we’re the team in form, we’re going to show you how good we are.

“They got away with the result. They’ll think it was a good point but we were all looking for them to put a marker down.”

I must admit, I was a little confident of ourselves coming into the match, although I’m well aware of our struggles up there in previous years, and when I saw a central pairing of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, I was licking my lips!

After watching the game I was pleased to have come away with the result, and a point at Old Trafford is no easy task to retrieve, but I cant help but agree with Souness somewhat that we should have given United much more problems.

Do you think Wenger had us playing too reserved, and was happy to draw from the off?

  2. Yes, he set up the team negativly and that’s why he was so happy to go 1-1 with probably the worst Manchester United team in the modern era.

  3. And if we went in all guns blazing amd lost the game to a sucker punch y’all accuse the manager and team of being bottlers, innit? After years of torture in the hands of Mourinho and then United having not gotten a result against either in more than a decade [United at Old Trafford ], we are just expected to go all attack? It’s called recklessness! If United lost the game, ‘twoulda been brushed off as another bad day at the office like many others this season, if we’d lost, we would have been labelled bottlers. I think the most practical way to have played the game is what we did.

    1. Thank the heavens someone with a God damn brain and logic on this site. Well said man, couldn’t have said any better ????
