Does Lacazette return mean Arsenal can beat Rennes easily?

We all saw how awful Arsenal were in the game at Rennes when Aunameyang had an off day and our only goal was a lucky cross from Iwobi. Surely we would have done better if Lacazette had’ve been on the pitch although he wouldn’t have helped us conceding three goals!

But the good news is that our French striker can now play in the return leg on Thursday after his appeal was heard by UEFA. The BBC reported….

Alexandre Lacazette is eligible to play in the second leg of Arsenal’s Europa League last-16 tie with Rennes on Thursday after his ban was reduced.

The striker was banned for three European matches by Uefa after being sent off in the first leg of Arsenal’s match against Bate Borisov in February.

It was later reduced to two matches – which the 27-year-old has already served – after Arsenal appealed.

Rennes have a 3-1 lead following the first leg against Arsenal on 7 March.

So that is a great bit of news, and surely we should be able to score goals if we have an attacking side like we did against Man United. I am sure that Emery will be going hell for leather to win this one, but should we still worry about our defence without Sokratis?

    1. Today?! Wrong day buddy!

We have to start extremely fast, just like we did against BATE. A goal in the first 20 minutes would be fantastic and put Rennes on the back foot.

Similar performance like against United will make us go through.

  1. Yes because Rennes’s defense is awful and Lacazette is a big nuisance to the opponent’s defenders, due to his work rate

Rennes would most likely guard their flanks and include more defenders, therefore Arsenal should put more midfielders to dominate the ball possession and produce more set-pieces. I’d like to see Ramsey/ Ozil as mezzalas, Xhaka as a deep-lying playmaker, Lacazette as a false nine and Aubameyang/ Iwobi as wide forwards:

    Leno
    Maitland-Niles . Mustafi . Koscielny . Kolasinac
    ………………………….Xhaka
    …………..Ramsey ……………….. Ozil
    ………………………..Lacazette
    ……Aubameyang ……………………Iwobi

  2. We should go with 4-3-1-2 formation if we want accommodate attacking threat and defensive solidity as well

    Cech
    AMN. Mustafi. Kos. Kolasinac
    Ramsey. Torreira. Xhaka

    Ozil

    Lacazzet. Aubameyang

  3. It’s a huge boost!! However, Sokratis will be missed..Hopefully we’ll have enough to go through.
Then we can wipe that smug grin off Ben Arfa’s face & Xhaka can wink at him COYG

  4. It doesn’t automatically make it an easy game. Mclovin got it right a similar performance to the Man U game will give us a good chance to win.

  5. If Mustafi plays I expect Rennes to score. They are a very decent team and Arsenal will have to be at their best to go through. We are highly unlikely to win “easily”
