Does ‘perfect’ Xhaka really give Arsenal title winning team?

The first game of the pre-season preparations for Arsenal in France this evening comes too soon for us fans to get a first look at our summer signing Granit Xhaka after his involvement with the Switzerland national side at Euro 2016. We saw enough at the tournament, however, to suggest that Arsene Wenger has got the Gunners a great player and the boss has been speaking to Arsenal Player this week about what he thinks the new man will bring to Arsenal.

With the Arsenal fans starting to become frustrated by the lack of major signings since the Xhaka transfer, Wenger is perhaps trying to tell us that the Swiss star will have a major impact at the heart of our midfield and will add the quality and attributes that will give the Gunners a great chance to challenge for the Premier League and other trophies.

He said, “[Xhaka brings] his passing ability to play through the lines from deep positions, his work rate, and he’s good in the air.

“He’s a young boy as well, 23 years old. There’s a lot to come from him. We lost three midfielders: Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, and numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now.

“Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will come back, Wilshere is back… so we are solid in midfield.”

I do think that Wenger is right about us having enough strength and depth to our midfield, but I am not so confident about our defensive strength and out attacking options, so even if Xhaka turns out to be as good as we all hope, is that really enough to make Arsenal champions?

  1. Hate to say it but I was pretty underwhelmed by Xhaka in the Euros. Sure he has a lovely pass on him but it was his tackling that worried me. Opponents seemed to float by him. The good news is I’ve been wrong so many times about Arsenal players that odds are on him proving me wrong.

    1. Xhaka alone is not the answer. I think xhaka will add quality to our team but we our team is not balanced well.we can do that by adding Icardi and draxler…i think we are in need of a winger more than a defender..this is how we can line up

      Icardi
      Alexis draxler/mahrez
      Ozil

      Xhaka/lecoq Santi/elneny

      Nacho boss Gabriel hector

      Cech

    2. without a proper striker in this team, perfect Xhaka is just another wasted midfielder who’d be threading those passes to mr nobody upfront!

      #SadTruth!#

    3. I NEVER rate a player by a short look – especially in international tournaments.

Xhaka looked great in the Bundesliage over a LONG period. That is more telling.

  2. Xhaka. …Awesome player. Good passer of the ball. Amazing long range passer of the ball. Good tackler but can be reckless at times. Has a strong mentality and character.. Posses great leadership quality..

But He is not enough for us to win the league…..

  3. On that Gazidis topic; this what I am saying, now comes the time to present the bad news with lots and lots of positive spin, the yankee way. Gazidis started and wenger will soon follow. All this has been deliberated in their f** board room. On how to make a lovely presentation – this is part of the yankee MBA education. Stand upright, have a steady gaze, have a good body language and then you throw your depressing speech at the fans with a spin. It is all f** planned! Prepare to listen to filth in coming weeks…

    1. I liked hearing Arsenal ask fans to stay tuned because we are not done in the transfer market. They announced Holding, they must of known people would be worried, the three signings and all. So it was good hearing that we still have targets. I’m sure the reassurance came from upstairs ..just saying.

  4. Stupid title, of course not enough! We need striker, it so obvious to everyone except ARSENE!!!

  5. The Arsenal line up for the Lens game:

Martinez, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Monreal, Elneny, Coquelin, Walcott, Iwobi, Reine-Adelaide, Akpom.

Subs: Macey, Bielik, Gibbs, Zelalem, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Willock, Campbell, Gnabry.

I suggested yesterday that Martinez may start instead of Cech, but I am a little surprised that Akpom gets the nod ahead of Walcott for the Striker’s position but that could all change depending on how this game goes.
This Lens team isn’t all that lol ? Anything less than a convincing win (5-0) would be considered as pityfull.

        1. Hahaha ? thats half our starting line up for the Liverpool game, out there! And there playing against a second division french club. ??

By the way, Liverpool have just signed G. Wijndunum (spelling ?) from Newcastle.

Oh to.. Oh to be. . Oh to be a .. Moaner! ?

  6. Xhaka is a talented player and was excellent in the Euros
He will come good for us

However we NEED a top striker and CB
We will be competing with teams that have Mktharyan, Ibrahimovic, Kane, Janssen, Aguero, Costa, Lukaku, Batshuayi, Vardy.

We need a top CB to make our defense rock solid
And Giroud/Theo showed us that they aren’t enough
Alexis can’t be pressured to score the whole season

  7. Seriously how on earth are we equipped to win the title, firstly we were 2nd but wayy behind Leicester and secondly welbeck who scored some important goals is out for a long period and is not being replaced, what really are they smoking, pathetic

    1. Half the team would probably get injured by christmas like always anyway because of our useless medical team and outdated wimp style training

  8. Of course Xhaka is obviously not enough. We need minimum a prolific top striker and a solid central defender. Since Abumeyang and Higuain are sadly off reach, Lacazette or Icardi can be settled for. And for CB Manolas would be the ideal not the Holding lad Wenger settled for. Even if Wenger was looking for a young talent lots of potential he should have signed Roma’s young talent Alessio Romagnoli who had a good number of games last season with Roma and with strong performances to go with it. He would have been strong competition for Mertasacker rather than a sub which Holding would be for Mertasacker.

  9. Today we have had an article about gazidis saying we are good enough to win the league. That was slated on here.

Now we have the question, is the addition of xhaka enough to make us champions. We have slready answered the question and it is No.

that is not a criticism of xhaka, we need a striker.

  10. I had some slight hopes bug now i know that we are light years before we can consider ourselves title contenders once more.
The team is just fool of overrated overpaid rubbish.
Players like debuchy arent even good enough to play for thd championship.
Half of this team playing should be sacked with immediate effect

  11. oh yeah, debuchy still exists i guess…. Walcott looks the same as he did during last season.

    1. very predictable, every defender knows he wants to run and they just push him off the ball easily

  12. Have you seen where only a midfielder won a league for a club? He has a good passing accuracy, but do we have someone to make use of those passes? Or is Xhaka going to be “passing” the ball into the opponents net? Very funny article. What is Per Mert still doing at arsenal, don’t they say,the older you get,the slower you become in the game of football? Haven’t we seen enough of humiliation? And he’s going to be given the captain armband,to lead the gunners where?

    1. @onochie
Have you seen where any 1 player won the league for any club? NO…
It’s a team sport dude. Thats why there are 11 men to a squad.
