Elneny looking forward to taking on Barcelona!

I’m beginning to like this young man’s attitude. Mohamed has already told how he is aiming to win every trophy available with Arsenal, and now he has come out with fighting talk for those critics who dare to suggest he is not good enough for the Premier League.

Elneny told the Basel website: “It is a big move for me. A lot of people think I will not be able to replicate my performances for Basel at Arsenal, but I want to prove the entire world wrong,” .

“It is a huge step for me and a dream come true. I want to show the world that I am a good player.

“One of my first games with Arsenal will be against Barcelona. That will be a huge game and I hope I will be playing.”

The Egyptian international has extensive European experience from three years of winning the Swiss title and qualifying for the Champions League. He has faced Premier League teams too including two games against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-finals the year the Blues won the competition, and holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield, but it another European game that he remembers the most.

“My most significant game for Basel was the 2-1 away win over Fiorentina. The president told me it was the first time we won a game on Italian soil. I will always remember that game,” he said.

He has had three very successful years in Switzerland, and he hanked hs club before leaving: “I am both sad and happy with this transfer. It’s a sad moment because I am leaving Basel. I will miss everything here – the club, the players, the board and the fans. I owe Basel a lot.

“But I am happy because it a great step to a big club. It is a great career move to get the chance to play for Arsenal.

“I wish Basel all the best and will always be a Basel fan.”

All I can say is that if this lad plays as confidently as he he talks he will be an excellent addition to the team. We may not have heard of him before but this could be another Wenger gem that he has uncovered from nowhere….

  1. Welcome kid, looking forward to his debut. I have never seen cazorla play before his debut against sunderland and the rest is history.

  2. Off topic and I mentioned it before but couldn’t get more happier,

Coquelin, Wilshere, Welbeck, Sanchez, Rosicky back in training. Rosicky, we know, Sanchez doubtful but in contention, rest will just need match fitness(not much for Coquelin and Wilshere never disappoints in these things)

My life sprang back to joy. Lets hope for the best

  3. On Elneny, he looked to me more like a Ramsey type of player rather than Coquelin. I would expect Ramsey 2013-2014 like performances from him(if he gets into form).
Won’t mind if Wenger can instruct him to sit back protecting back 4 and providing long pin-point passes from deep, which he is capable of. That would be quite appropriate and he can’t be worse than Arteta or Flamini.

  4. I’m happy with this transfer as it adds depth to squad and Elneny could turn out to be a real bargain! But I cant help but think Wenger had the chance to get Vidal in the summer which would have been even better… Both Vidal and Elneny are not CDM and more Box to Box. I wont judge Elneny to soon, I hope he does great but I see him as more of a replacement for Arteta not Flamini… come summer time i would still like another proper CDM (unless Elneny turns into another Le Coq!!).

  5. why don’t we have a article on wenger saying he won’t find anyone better than welbeck ????

oh thats right that would be a stupid comment for anyone to say

  6. Do you know that in last season`s CL and this season`s Europa League not one player covered more ground than Mohamed Elneny?

Let`s take a gander at some of the other numbers.

5 Million – The Number of pounds it cost to bring Elneny to Arsenal.

1992 – The year in which he was born

180 – His height in cm

91 – The number of top flight appearances he made for Basel

70 – His weight in kilograms

39 – The number of caps he has for Egypt

35 – The number of his new shirt at Arsenal

23 – The age of the Egyptian midfielder

6 – The number of goals he has this season

4 – The number of trophies he won with Basel

3 – The number of trophies he wants to win at Arsenal this season

0 – The number of Arsenal fans who had heard of Elneny prior to his arrival

  7. I’m confident that Elneny will become a fan favourite and that he will succeed at Arsenal but I have to laugh at the big talk coming from the player as this is nothing new at Arsenal.

Hopefully this will be the start, where an Arsenal player actually backs up his big talk with his Actions on the pitch!
