EPL cash deal means Arsenal should make transfers NOW

Arsenal fans heard many times that Arsene Wenger is not a big fan of the January transfer window but at the same time it is there so he might as well make use of it. Having signed just one, not very well heard of, player in Mohamed Elneny to strengthen the injury hit central midfield area, it is looking increasingly like the Frenchman will be using the winter window very sparingly once again but I think he could be making a grave mistake.

As reported on the Arsenal website, Wenger today hinted that the Gunners would not be completing any more transfer business this month, unless of course something unexpected comes up.

He said, “Yes, you will certainly have some work to do over the next 10 days, not especially with Arsenal, but with many other clubs.

“We are always open to the exceptional occasion of course because it can be a long-term exceptional opportunity that we would take. But at the moment I expect our last 10 days to be quiet.”

The boss often says that the summer is a much better time to sign players but I think this year could be different. Because the Evening Standard is reporting that all of the Premier League clubs could be heading for a massive transfer splurge due to the new mega money TV deal and the money from it being released early.

Not only will this give Arsenal more and richer rivals for any transfer target, it will make the other clubs around Europe boost their asking prices significantly. Arsenal are in a great position financially right now and could get the jump on this summer of madness.

Why not go all out for a top player or two now? Not only would it help to avoid the summer scramble, it might just help Arsenal to win the Premier League title. Fancy that at all Arsene?

  1. Come on guys, Wenger hates to buy in Jan let alone spend 60M on a world class striker. so please lets stop the whining and lets support our players especially Giroud, Walcott and the Ox. We need to believe in them for them to use the potentiak that we all know they have. Chelsea is gonna be a real test but we have enough to smash them! COYG

  2. Now seriously guys.which position is really that imminent to fix this january.
    Huh.tell me which?
Some of you are just happy when the cash is splashed
The next target which might come after two years is to compete for the ucl by which we need a better striker winger cm
    and cd

    1. Arsene did say
“I will be very busy in Jan”.
      Now that could mean he
would sign 3 top proven players.
Well Elneny is proven in the Swiss league
and the two Nigerians are proven at U17 level.
May be Arsene meant he would be busy
with his new girlfriend, or busy skiing in the French alps
or busy playing FIFA 15 on his Xbox 🙂
Hoping for one more attacking option.
Those Nigerians got any more young strikers 🙂

  3. Every man and his dog knows what a joke the Jan transfer window is. 95% of decent players are not there for the taking – often regardless of how much money you wave around. Kenwyne Jones and Jermaine Pennant were available – takers anyone? Or perhaps Morgan Amalfitano?

You could look at the Telegraph’s list of the best January transfers ever in the PL since the introduction of the transfer window in 2002-03 to get a small clue as to how difficult it is to buy a decent forward in the Jan window. When you have Clint Dempsey, Christophe Dugarry, Ashely Young and Wilfred Zaha in their top 12 you know there is a problem. Although should say Evra and Vidic not bad defensive January transfers.

Luis Suarez is the stand-out sole exception in 2011 ie: arguably just one world class (and he wasn’t at the time) striker imported in to the PL in 13 years in the January window.

  4. The extra money coming in will only make the money mad, even more Crazier!
Ebenezer has only one goal and thats to top the moneybags league, anything else gained with his injury prone bare back squad is a bonus!
The minimum expectations from the board is to finish in the top 4 ( meaning 4th ) in the premier league and to qualify for the last 16 in the champions league.

The only time when Wenger has spent big is when the home fan’s turned against him, hence the signings of Ozil and Sanchez and since then, we have returned back to the normality of Excuses and Riddles from Mr wenger and that will remain the case, until the majority of the fan’s cause another uproar!

Meanwhile, Everything is looking Rosy, because we are sitting joint top of the league, I am no Nostradamus but I predict that the moaning and shouts for Wenger Out will be ringing in the air long before the month of May!

    1. Warms the heart to think there are still people gullible enough to think Wenger bought Ozil solely because of some crowd unrest on the opening day of the 2013/14 season. For better or worse AW probably hasn’t spent a single second pondering who the fans would like him to buy. Absolute zero evidence that AW listens to a single word anyone says. This has been true for 20 years both pre and post-Ozil so laughable really to try hard to find a way of denigrating him when he does spend £42M. It is well documented that AW tried to get MO way back in 2010 and made personal contact with him at the time and tracked him thereafter. It wasn’t a bolt from the blue in Sept 2013.

      1. Finally some common sense, and it’s the same with Aexis, we tried to get him when he was still at Udinese but he chose Barca instead. Wenger is a master poker player, he uses patience to his advantage and only gambles when he knows he has a chance of reaping the benefits. He doesn’t go for long shots like an amateur gambler and he definitely does not let the media know his intentions hence why he always plays the poker face when asked about transfers. i.e : “I’ve never heard of Cazorla”

  5. The Summer started amazingly well getting Cech. We desperately needed a WC keeper

It was extremely disappointing to see Wenger NOT get a single outfielder in the summer. Even for Wenger’, it was a shocking he did. No top European team other than Arsenal did that

I appreciate that Wenger has faith in the players which is admirable. However, you need to look at quality over quantity

    Cech, Ospina, Szczney- excellent
Defense – very good (maybe another versatile CB)
DM- Coquelin is excellent but should have got another quality DM in the summer and released Arteta or Flamini
Box2Box- Excellent – Cazorla, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Ox
Forwards- Should have got one Top quality forward either winger or CF

Wenger has partly made up for the mistake by getting Elneny

That said, all will be forgiven if we win the PL trophy, but it was a huge risk just getting Cech and Elneny

    1. Yet here we are, top of the table. Chelsea and United after spending on outfield players are struggling and Man City despite spending 30m on Kompany replacement still have a shambolic defence. Wenger didn’t spend because he knew he didn’t have to. And we signed Elneny this transfer window so that claim that we haven’t signed an outfield player is total b*llocks at this point.

  6. Its simple for us… that is win the league and show the world that we are not far away from the big boys and give Barca a good run for their money! Do that and the best players wanting to come to the premier league will want to come to Arsenal. Its not about Money for Arsenal with the TV deals coming as we have the Emirates revenue, our own commercial deals and money in the bank is already there. We have our own.

We have great facilities for any player to join us(they are getting extension also), the philosophy of the club and the money to pay already, its winning the trophies players want! When we get rid of a few fringe players this summer, id say we are 2/3 players off having a great team ready to challenge any team in Europe. Our main goal isnt about tv deals, transfers etc.. for now we have the squad we just need to win the league and show that we are taking that next step up to the next level. Elneny will do until the summer and Welbz is back soon.
    Rosicky, Arteta, Flamini, Debuchy, Ospina will be gone. Summer will be huge if we can go on and lift the title this season. Imagin;

    Xhaka or William Carvalho
    Aubameyang or Griezzman
    Stones or Howedes

Something of that sort our team would be complete
