EXTRA – Arsenal legends v Milan Highlights – Kanu surprises Wenger!

In an exciting charity game at the Emirates, the Arsenal legends managed to overcome a star-studded Milan Glorie side and the big surprise was a hat-trick from Kanu as the Gunners won 4-2.

Arsene Wenger enjoyed watching his old stars, and the spectacle was a great success for the Arsenal Foundation. “The surprise was Kanu, because nobody knew where he played and he turned up with something special again,” Wenger said. “Players like Freddie Ljungberg and Robert Pires are still completely fit, and Kolo Toure I’m not surprised about because he still plays for Celtic.

“The class has not gone, the quality has not gone – the legs a little bit! But not too much. They had enough resources to make the game enjoyable. It is a great afternoon and that shows our values at the club because we raised one million pounds for the charity and we can be very proud of that.”

  1. the fact he said he would score a hat trick before game then did it….legendary move son.
    all for charity.

    respect

  2. imagine if your first experiences of supporting arsenal was viera henry bergkamp and pires.
would totally warp your expectation of arsenal…this late teens early twenties kids are naturally not gonna have the patience of the guys who lived thru the desolate years.

my first games were the george graham era, grafters but no style…1-0 to the arsenal , so wenger an the players that came in that era showed me something i never expected .

the game has somewhat passed him by, but just to say i lived through and went to watch that era is an honour

    1. Oh! Trip down the memory lane. “Boring Boring Arsenal!!” Still remember how we used to lay the defend, Dixon and Winterburn would just raise their hands screaming offside!. We did not have classy players at that time barring a couple of stars like Adams and Smudger (Alan Smith). But boy, Wenger’s invincibles season was the last thing anyone that knew Arsenal from Graham’s era would expect. That, and free flowing football of course.

  3. Wow! Pires, Jens, Freddie, Kanu and Winterburn are much better than our back ups at those positions. Pires, just wow. What can I say. Class is permanent indeed!

  4. It was a great day out, a Father’s Day gift from my son and we went with his son. Met them at the Tollington for a couple of pints before the game, then a quick walk down Hornsey Road to the Emirates, in past the Armoury and up to our seats in the North Bank. A good fun game with some great old stars on show with the biggest cheers for Dave Seaman in the first half and Martin Keown in the second. Manu Petit, Bobby Pies and Freddy Ljungberg looked like I remember them and I had a lump in my throat. Ambrosini, Cafu, Vieri and DeCanio for Milan. Winterburn bringing down DeCanio and then falling to the ground in a cameo of the original incident brought a huge cheer! After the game a burger on the way out, then into the old Highbury Stadium for a look up at my old seat in the front row upper west stand then a pint in the Blackstock and then on a train home. A lovely nostalgic day out, old songs, new songs, old friends, new friends.

  5. That team would probably push for the title even now!

Would I would have given to see Overmars and Robert play together in their respective primes!

Hopefully we will get to see Dennis Bergkamp, Thiery and Ian Wright Wright Wright next time around, probably didn’t play as they wanted to give Milan a chance
