Forget it Chelsea! Petr Cech tells Leno ‘I intend to stay and fight’

Shock Chelsea target Petr Cech has once again announced that he intends to stay at Arsenal this summer and challenge Bernd Leno for the number one spot.

The ageing 36-year old has become a headline in the media over the last few days, as reports have circulated that Chelsea are lining up a move to try and tempt him back to Stamford Bridge as they seek an immediate replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

It is no secret the Blues are on the verge of losing their number one this summer, as reports have emerged which claim he is ready to pack his bags and head back to Spain, where his family currently reside.

And Cech, who kept his 200th Premier League clean sheet last season, is high up on the shopping list with Unai Emery ready to hand the number one jersey to Leno.

However, he has come out fighting and has warned Leno that he intends to stay at the club and ‘honour his contract’

“I said from the start I want to stay and fight for my place in the team and I will honour my contract, unless the club tells me to go,” Cech told Sky Sports News.

“I am performing hard and training hard every day to be ready and be ready for when my opportunity comes.

“I want to show the manager I can be the starting goalkeeper and all the players do the same and I think it’s great for the team.”

Leno arrives at the Emirates with something to prove having stagnated over the last few seasons during his time at Leverkusen, and could struggle to adapt to the Premier League.
And Cech, who is a seasoned professional, knows he has the experience and quality to keep Leno on the bench, something many expect to happen in the early stages of the new season.
