Good News! Yaya Sanogo to leave Arsenal on loan in January

It must be said that Just Arsenal readers have been suggesting that the big gangly striker Yaya Sanogo should go out on loan, if only to give Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell a better chance to get some more game time on the pitch, now it seems that we are gong to get our wish.

The French U21 international has had mixed fortunes since joining the Gunners from Auxerre in the summer of 2013, starting off with one appearance then missing the next six months with a back injury. He finished the season strongly with 4 games plus 10 subs appearances for the first team but failed to hit the back of the net for Arsenal.

He started this campaign in explosive style with FOUR goals in the Emirates Cup game against Benfica, but the promise was not fulfilled again, but at least he got his first goal in Arsenal’s Champions League win over Dortmund. He is still awaiting his first League goal for us, but has strangely got 5 goals in 8 appearances for the French U21 side.

Now that Olivier Giroud has returned from injury and with Danny Welbeck in reasonable form it is unlikely that Sanogo will get much gametime for the Gunners for the rest of the season, so it makes sense that, according to the BBC, Arsene Wenger will be sending him out to another Premier League club in the hope that he can gain some much needed first team football.

We all know that Arsenal are short of players to put on the pitch, but the forward positions are the one place we have a surfeit of bodies, so I can only see this move as being good for Arsenal in the long run. Either Sanogo will come good and start scoring freely or he will show promise and put himself in the frame to be sold next summer.

Aston Villa, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have been touted as possible destinations, but I honestly don’t care where he goes as long as he gets some opportunities to actually play regularly…

    1. What i will call good news is if the club that takes him on loan plays him the way westham plays Jenk’s then it will be good news to me.

  1. Someone has to leave the champions squad to create a space for giroud. It makes sense that it should be a like for like. Now we just need to decide who else leaves the squad to make space for a CB & DM. For me it should be zelalem and either diaby or coquelin

    1. Zelalem can’t be out of our 25 man squad. He’s not in it, nor can Sanogo for that matter, he isn’t in it either. You have an initial 25 man squad are are allowed to supplement it with as many under 21 players as you like – Sanogo and Zelalem both qualify as U21.

  2. I think this is just what he needs. A loan will help him and everyone else see where he really is. At the start of the season he did not hold up well for the first couple of games after Giroud got injured so he needs to try and prove he can play regularly.

Plus Per can sleep safely again.

  3. No way will those clubs loan him….Crystal Palace have Campbell and Gayle,Sunderland have Wickham and Fletcher while Aston Villa have Benteke and Weimann…..hez staying here…unfortunately

    1. Your ignorance is appaling to say the least. Nothing presently stops crowley from playing in the senior team so why should a senior member of the squad be sent on loan to accommodate a player who can play if he proves his metle. Your scapegoating of the club’s players makes us wonder if you are indeed an arsenal fan. You did the same to Gervhino till he left for Roma where he is superb and now you are targeting another player. You are a twat.

    1. You have no idea of who is better than who between the two players. The players are playing at different levels. While Afobe is scoring for funny the fact remains that he plays for a third tier club while Sanogo plays for a first tier club.

  4. Both afobe and akpom are better than sanogo ive always thought it strange that sanogo wit not experience or record will Just be intergrated into the 1st team…a loan. For him. Will do him good and everyone else

  5. This move simply makes room to move Akpom up. There seems to be pressure since his contract is apparently up in the summer and he is balking at extending it. Also talk of him joining up with Nigeria for a friendly in Jan. Guess, he can now play the cup games plus be the third choice striker.
