When the dust finally settles on the career of Arsene Wenger as the manager of Arsenal, whenever that may be, the Frenchman and we Arsenal fans will have many things to look back on, both good and bad, but surely the oldest cup competition in football will have a special place in those thoughts.
Even if the Gunners do not go on to follow up today’s FA cup semi-final win over Man City by beating Chelsea in the final, Wenger will still be tied as the manager with the most wins, but if he and the lads can actually lift the trophy then he will be the top with seven. That would also put Arsenal one better than Manchester United with 13 in total.
Just the fact that Arsenal are in it and our season still has hope of silverware could be huge for the boss and it is not the first time the FA cup has come to his rescue. The same is true of the team, though, with the current players perhaps winning nothing without it.
Remember how much the football media banged on about the trophy drought? Remember how it seemed to be a mental block for us until a few years ago when Ramsey completed the comeback against Hull City?
So once again the competition has been kind to Arsenal and I wonder if it could have even more to give us, because that dogged performance against Man City today may have revived more than Wenger’s career. Gunners like Ramsey, Gabriel and especially Oxlade-Chamberlain should be feeling great tonight after their future at Arsenal was being questioned.
Everyone connected with Arsenal owes a big thank-you to the FA cup, that’s for sure, but can it save us once again?
Bob.
No results should save Wenger’s job for next year with Arsenal. The fact that most fans realize Wenger is not the manager for Arsenal’s future is not based on one season or one game.
We havent won it yet
Anything could happen
If we finish outside top 4, wenger should still be punished even if we win the FA Cup
Managers have been fired after winning Champions League and Premier League
We have gone 13 years without a PL or CL title and won two FA Cups. Leicester has won the PL and Liverpool Chelsea United have all won CL in that time
In my opinion, Wenger should still go, even if he manages to win the FA Cup, which will be a hard thing to do considering Chelsea’s form in this season and our record against them. I guess the only way he could stay was if we managed to secure top 4, win the cup and failed to attract any top managers to our side – Allegri or Simeone managing the side would be a dream come true, but I’m not sure if taking the risk with somebody less experienced like Howe is worth it.
What’s the worst that could happen, we would finish outside the top 4? Aren’t we right on course to do that with the super experienced Arsene Wenger? Id take Eddie Howe over Wenger anyday franky am just tired of the same rubbish season in season out.
Wengers off!
Van gaal got sacked even after winning the fa cup. Fa cup is all good and fine but arsenal have to set their standards high. We cannot sit on our laurels. We have to hire top top manager and not some Eddie howe type. Success may not ne a guarantee but we have to be ruthless.
Top managers need to be bankrolled heavily by billionaires or oil
Juventus, city, chelsea psg and etc….
If you look at Chelsea”s business for the last 4 or 5 years you will realize the club makes its purchases from the money it generates…not Abramovich.
Best case scenario
We finish 4th and win the FA cup
Worst case scenario
We finish 7th and get thrashed by Chelsea
Most likely scenario
We finish 5th and lose to Chelsea
How about we finish 4th and MU wins Europa League(almost certain)?Still not CL place,4th place is not enough,3rd is what we need…which is imposible,we all know that
this comment essentially sums it up haha
and wenger stays in all these situations
Interesting what AW said in his post match interview, although no one has commented on it – he said there were major problems within the club which he may one day write about. Very uncharacteristic of him – we hear all these rumours, yet he’s never given any weight to them, it’s the first time he’s ever publicly admitted that there has ever been internal problems.
Hes leaving of course he says that
We will be having a new manager but yet to be named
Fans need to protesting properly….we need the club to be under the direct payroll of our 3 billionaires
Chelsea has roman
City has dubai
PSG has kuwait
Juventus has Agnelli
Man utd has 200m fans in Asia and worldwide for merchandising
Bayern, real and barca are very wealthy too
WENGER never learns…if he stays ……
You can predict an Arsenal season before it’s even begun.
When it comes to tactics, Wenger is often found out.
It’s taken him years to finally realise you need to give up some possession for being tighter in bigger games, but there’s still no real variation.
Deluded quotes……..he said quote
We have leaders in every position”
Players don’t seem to believe in him
In crucial games in a must-win clash the players didn’t seem bothered.
He’s holding Arsenal back
WENGER OUT
I think he was safe anyway, but he still may choose to leave at the end of the season.
However, where has this new gritty hard tackling Arsenal been for the last 10 years or so???
I thought we played like we wanted to win. Now to transfer that grit to the league…
As if they haven’t already agreed that he’d stay for another season or two. Please. The FA cup win can speed up the announcement of his imminent stay.
