Holding reveals that Emery has copied Guardiola method for choosing a captain

Arsenal centre half Rob Holding has been speaking quite a bit over the last 48 hours and who can blame him, he is fresh from a long term injury, had a fantastic comeback game Tuesday evening against Nottingham Forest and even captained the side for the last 20 minutes or so.

In fact, Holding has been discussing the Arsenal captaincy role and has confirmed that the players have had a vote for who will be the next Arsenal captain.

“He likes his five captains. We all did a vote the other week so we’ll see what happens and see who gets named,” Holding said.

“It was just a case of writing names down and then giving them to the manager and he will go through them – obviously with his input – and we’ll see what happens.

“I have no idea [when an announcement will be made], but there is a lot of leaders in that team who are helping each other out and pushing each other on.

“Now that we’ve got these five captains that the manager has brought in it’s spreading the leadership group rather than having one person to dictate it. You’re getting more input, it’s generating a good environment.”

Some of the responses to the way Emery is picking a captain has been heavily criticised by some of the fans, just look at some of the responses to the tweet from Football.London journalist James Benge.

Thing is this, I just do not get what all the hullabaloo is about, this is quite a common practice with foreign managers, Pep Guardiola did the exact same thing at Man City, I have not seen anyone having a go at him and calling it terrible management.

Just seems to be an excuse to have a go at Emery, I see nothing wrong with the players choosing a player that they want to be captain and who they respect enough to vote for.

If it does not work out then, by all means, have aa pop at Emery but until such a time his method of choosing a captain should be supported.
