If Arsenal play smart we should get something from new-look PSG

Despite a rocky start PSG is Arsenals biggest test yet! by KM

Hello everyone! Champions league time! And we were awarded french champions PSG which in fairness is not the worst draw we could’ve had. They lost Ibrahimovic, and replaced him with Jese, who’s already struggling to find a place in the squad and rumours suggest he is unhappy for being a sub.

Parisians also changed their manager by appointing Unai Emery. An interesting coach with enormous success in the Europa League, but failing to elevate Seville to a top 4 place in Spain. An interesting manager, who now is in charge of a big club where success is a demand, not a great bonus if you get it.

PSG didn’t have the best of starts being beaten by Monaco and drawing with with St. Etienne. Despite Lucas Moura saying they had one eye on the game with us, they’ve lost their star striker and haven’t yet adapted to the new manager’s ideas. We have to capitalise on this. Watch what Monaco did to beat them, what weaknesses they showed.

We haven’t had the best of starts or performances yet, but we did rest key players and last years group stage fiasco should be a warning that we need to take things seriously this time. They have good players, despite the departures of this year and this will be our toughest test so far.

I expect Giroud to return to the line up, although I believe Lucas might be more suited to a more counter-attacking approach we could take this time as we are playing away after all. Other than that Xhaka is likely to replace Coquelin and Alexis will also likely return to the side.

PSG is not Bayern, Barca or Real and we should be looking at the possibility to snatch a point or 3 if we can. Arsene is nearing the end of his reign and if he wants a real go at the Champions league we’d need to rethink a philosophy that hasn’t worked in recent years. If we play smart, we should be looking at taking something from this game, which would be a huge boost towards winning the group.

We should be looking for points in this game.

  1. Losing to Monaco and drawing Etienne will make them hungrier and they will come at us. It’s gonna be a good game because Arsenal love to play when teams comes out. I am looking forward to a great game. Hopefully, the French players and manager go their and win at their home. Lol. A draw isn’t a bad result as well. Let’s give it a go..

  2. I think when you say work smart, then I would expect arsenal to play for a draw.
A draw away at PSG would not be a bad results by any means.
PSG still is a very competitive side and will go for win, hence we need to play on counter. This will show our test of character. To get success you need to be smart

we are the worst team to play for a draw, we just don’t know how to do that and always when we try to hold on to a lead or try for draw we end up being confused and lose always, so i say go for a win its the way we play and lets just hope our recent signings will bring stability in the near future to be able to defend and be able to hold tams better

  3. I’d really love to see us play fine football and win.

Or atleast, we should just win the game whichever way we can.

  4. “If we play smart, we should be looking at taking something from this game…” – as opposed to playing dumb? Konstantin, your hate towards Wenger is well documented on this board, but how about giving him the benefit of a doubt? I’m pretty sure that he prepares for every single game and with one goal in mind – to win.
