Infuriating Arsenal were sluggish and pedestrian against Brighton

FT: ARSENAL 1-1 BRIGHTON

Another terrible result in the league that effectively ends our pursuit of a top 4 finish. Whilst Arsenal were poor for large periods, we ultimately had the chances to win the game and failed to take them. We dominated the opening exchanges in terms of possession and territory, but didn’t look particularly threatening or incisive in the final third.

However, once we opened the scoring the game opened up, and whilst they threatened once or twice, we had a flurry of late first half chances that could’ve essentially wrapped it up. The way we started the second half is what infuriated me. We looked sluggish, slow and complacent, allowing them back into the game. This ultimately led to their equaliser, and our response to this was poor; although we created a couple of very good chances, we remained pedestrian in possession. The switch to the the back 3 with the substitutions didn’t help, but the chances missed essentially cost us, and unfortunately Emery cannot legislate for that.

On to the Europa League.
