Arsenal International update: Giroud scores, Iwobi mistake? and more

Four of our stars were in action last night, with Costa Rica taking on Jamaica in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria hosting Egypt in the race to Gabon 2017 and France travelling to Holland for a friendly.

The competitive North American encounter encounter was quite a frustrating one, with two goals scored from only three shots which were managed on target. Joel Campbell played a part in his side’s goal, with his shot having been parried on to team-mate Johnny Acosta to put away.

Costa Rica came away with the draw they needed to keep a strong hold of their qualifying position, holding nearest rivals Panama and Jamaica three points behind them at the midway point in the group.

Mohamed Elneny played the full 90 minutes in the recent fixtures, and his side were lucky to snatch a late point in injury time, thanks to former Chelsea star Mohamed Salah’s equaliser. Their opponents may well have made a mistake however, with Alex Iwobi having been left on the bench, England may well have been given more time to try and persuade the youngster to return to the English set-up, having yet to make his competitive debut.

Arsenal stars Laurent Koscielny and Giroud are the final two to have made appearances since our last review. The striker managed to get on the score-sheet with a neatly taken strike, despite having failed to score a league goals since January 13. This was the most exciting encounter of the week to date, with the Dutch having recovered from 2-0 down, only for stand-in captain Blaise Matuidi to score a late winner to seal the tie off.

Hopefully Giroud’s goal will give him the confidence to end the season well for us, and he could well end up going into the European Championships as one of the players to watch.
