Is it Arsenal? DM target ‘in talks’ over imminent transfer

I really hope it is Arsenal, but there could be a few clubs involved in these transfer talks with Southampton, with at least two Premier League rivals having been linked fairly heavily with the France international star Morgan Schneiderlin this summer.

But as reported by The Mirror and revealed by Schneiderlin himself, we could soon know just which club the excellent all rounder will be playing for next season. The talks are apparently ongoing and the player seems pretty hopeful that his future will be resolved in a matter of days rather than weeks.

He said, “Talks are ongoing and should be completed in the coming days. I hope it will all be concluded before pre-season begins next week.”

The Saints are said to be determined to get their valuation for the player, which the report claims is something like £24 million and Arsene Wenger may have to meet it if he is to beat the likes of Man United and Tottenham to the Frenchman’s signature.

As the south coast club qualified for the Europa League but will have to enter at the third qualifying stage, their pre-season will start earlier than ours and I am sure that Ronald Koeman will want his squad sorted out as much as possible before then. This is good news for the Gunners, or it will be if we are the club that gets him. What do you think Gooners? Confident?

  1. I think we were in pole position to get him, then it seems our interest cooled, perhaps because of the £25 M price tag, perhaps because we were after Kondogbia as first choice

I do think he wants/wanted to come to Arsenal, I think we will get him before Spurs do if a straight choice. Man U are said to be after another player as first choice then Schneiderlin …so we have chances…….but I think we should have just gone for him straight away as he has PL experience

    1. To be honest(which I already am) I really want us to sign Schneiderlin. He is top quality and has ample EPL experience.

    2. We should try and re-buy Kondogbia from inter if its possible.
Have you guys really really watched him ?
      Hez absolutely fantastic…

    3. Even if kondogbia s gonna cost 60 or 100 million pounds to try and buy him backl from intermilan we should.. Hez jux like veira only more skillful…

  2. I think schneiderlin would complete our midfield as he can play with coqelein or as back up, though if he does come in I think flamini or arteta will be sold or released. What is certain is that wenger is targeting another dm which is great news

  3. Rate MS as a quality EPL player but for some reason find myself indifferent to his possible addition to the squad. Although he plays in an inferior league I have watched Imbula from Marseille and have been extremely impressed with his performances. Younger, left footed, technically sufficient, French, cheaper, ticks all the Wenger boxes. Lol

    IN:

    Benzema…..$30M
    Imbula…..$15M
    Cech…..$11M

    OUT:

    Podolski….$2M
    Ospina…..$4M
    Campbell….$5-8M
    Jenkinson….$2M loan
    Sanoago…..loan to Lisle

$45M spent and the Gunners are in serious business

      1. Not dreaming, if Rafa plays Ronaldo down the middle as rumored the Frenchmen will be on the auction block this summer. Man U, Liverpool and the rest may bid more for his services, but if its up to him, Benzema will sign with Arsenal for less.

Masreiile is desperate to balance there books and with Chelsea and a host of other European giants lurking $15M is a pretty realistic number.

        1. ok… but what would Real Madrid’s motive be in accepting our proposed transfer fee if United and Liverpool for example are willing to offer more??
15mil for Imbula seems about right. Kondogbia was overpriced

          1. I could be completely wrong in tnis regard but didnt Barca take less from us than Looserpool for Sanchez last summer? If Benzema has any say in the matter and with our recent dealings with RM perhaps Le Prof can work his magic yet again.

Again I dont mind being wrong…yet again. Lol

    1. Except for being far inferior defensively, which is kinda the first considerable trait of a DM no? It’s one thing having a DM that can play, another having a DM who isn’t the best tackler/interceptor.

Schneiderlin is prem proven, one of the best in his position, only 25, and a homegrown talent. He’s clearly the best candidate bar getting someone like Vidal who is another notch up.

Imbula/Kondogbia/Carvalho/Krychowiak are are simply not as good as Schneiderlin and we have Coquelin as someone with great potential, we need an established player alongside him.

  4. Krychowiak > Schneiderlin.

But Schneiderlin > Flamini. By miles. So I won’t be complaining if we get Schneiderlin.

    1. Mick,

Couldn’t agree more on the Polish powerhouse

I concede that MS has invaluable EPL experience but honestly I rate Krychowiak, Kondigbia, Imbula and Carvalho higher than the Southhampton star

  5. why wouldn’t we bid that or even half of that for Benzema if they bid 21MP for Koscielny

    1. That’s not a bad thing though. I think it’s good – there’s lots to discuss.

    1. Awful deal for us. Koscielny is far more important to our squad than Benzema could be. Look beyond his Real Mardid shirt and actually look at Benzema’s goalscoring record. It really isn’t very impressive.

  6. Schneiderlin is 25 and only 9 caps for his country
If he only has 9 international call ups at the age of 25 then he can’t be top quality.

Matic is same age and has over double that
Carvalho is 23 and has more Caps

    1. Errrrrr……..MS has Valbuena, Kondogbia, Gonalons, Sissoko, Matuidi, Cabaye, Payet and Pogba to compete with.

      Matic has……….Carvalho has………..

      Not quite the same.

        1. An obscene luxury of riches indeed but the French, much like the English recently have found a way to shit the bed in seemingly every major international tournament.

    2. I think it has to do more so with the players’ nationality. Say he was English and got a call up, I think he would have a lot more than just 9 caps because there aren’t many English players at his age group that is better in his position. So it solely depends on your nationality and how many others from your country are fighting for that spot. PS the DM position is something that France are stocked in for choices too…

    3. Now that’s your criteria? you were against signing Cech. Would you mind telling me how many caps he has?

  7. I don’t think we need another DM. We ve got arteta, coq, flamini, chamberlin, cazorla, jack, Ramsey, özil, rosicky. For any DM to come in we ve to sell one of the above mentioned player. I don’t see that happening, wenger wants to keep the squad together. The only possible deal I see happening is the Cech deal and a striker maybe a loan deal.

    1. of those you mentioned Coq is the only one capable of playing DM for us against the best teams

  8. Didn’t Secret Footballer say Schneirdelin is ours already? Let’s just relax and wait for the official confirmations!

    1. Looks like the official confirmation will be that he is now off to United. On the back pages of the red tops tomorrow apparently, not that counts for anything – but bookies reversed the odds today, United heavy favs. Getting bored of his name now – been hearing it on here for nearly 2 years now. Good player though.

  9. If money was not a hindrance, there are better DMs at the market among whom the Boss choice to buy one. But in the absent of sufficient money available for him to satisfactorily do his transfer business, I want the Boss to be cautious as he treads on the transfer market roads, so that he doesn’t stumble. To buy a player who in the bottom of his heart had preferred other option to Arsenal is stumbling. Schneiderlin wanted Spurs ahead of Arsenal. Why Arsenal now? Let him go to Spurs and be guaranteed playing in the Europa League on a consistent basis. Or if he is lucky, Man Utd could give him a chance to realise his new ambition to play in the CL. But for Arsenal, our club is reserved for only those who in their hearts want to play for us. With patient, our own correct 2nd dm will eventually arrived.

    1. you don’t know for sure he wanted to play for Spurs over us,what probably happenned is that he wanted to unite back up with his old manager, but its all speculation. You can’t say we sholdn’t buy him cos of a rumour that he wanted to link up with his old coach. If you only buy players on this basis we won’t be buying any1

  10. If money was not a hindrance, there are better DMs at the market among whom the Boss can choice one to buy. For the avoidance of any doubt, I am still the, samuel@justarsenal.com. I updated my profile a few minutes ago with my full name on the display name menu.

  11. think schniderlin would be a great addition for our squad for the up coming prem season, as he is well versed and chaptered in the ways of the league. he would go the distance in all the games very similar player to le coq in d/m, likes to intercept and tackle a lot very robust very good positional sense for his position also very athletic, he is used to playing d/m for lots of years so no problem for him to slip back into that role again. am sure that what wenger will have him do if he comes, he is at a good age as when he gets old bielik should be ready to step in by then. just means someone will have to make way for him prob flamini no doubt, his wages shouldnt be to high either £70k a week should do the trick

  12. Off topic. For the non stat believers (and Titi Henry is my hero for the record). Taken out of Daily article:
    14 Thierry Henry

The Frenchman’s trophy tally while in the Premier League was relatively modest, at two titles, albeit one as part of a Double and the other as an Invincible, and two other FA Cups. But he merits inclusion as the all-time leading goalscorer at one of the dominant clubs of the era,

  13. Schneiderlin will be a welcome addition to our team if he comes. Schneiderlin and Coquelin will be excellent and complete our defensive needs along with Cech.

If we get Schneiderlin and Cech all our defensive needs will be met.
    GK: Cech and Szczesny
    CB: Koscielny, Mertsacker, Gabriel, Chambers
    RB: Debuchy and Bellerin
    LB: Monreal and Gibbs
    DM: Schneiderlin and Coquelin

If that happens, only one more piece of the puzzle is necessary, a striker

Either a CF like Lacazette, Cavani, Higuain, Benzema, Benteke etc OR
If Walcott is converted to CF then a winger like Reus, Greizmann, Sterling, etc.

After that anyone Wenger gets will be an additional benefit to the team that’s appreciated and will improve us but is not necessary as we will have a complete team necessary to win the PL.
