Is Ivan Perisic the answer to Arsenal’s winger problem?

So far it looks like Arsenal have tried to sign James Rodriguez and Denis Suarez so far without any success, and it would appear that they are now looking in any nook and cranny to sign a much-needed winger before the window slams shut. We have already reported that the Barca outcast Malcom could be a possibility, and now, according to the Arsenal oracle David Ornstein, we have turned our attention to the Croatian international Ivan Persic. Ornstein reported on the official BBC website…..

Arsenal have made an approach to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Gunners want to seal a loan move for the 29-year-old for the rest of the season, with an option to buy him in the summer for £35m.

Croatia international Perisic signed a new five-year contract in September 2017 to extend his stay with the Italian club until 2022.

However, it is understood he is open to leaving the San Siro after joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.

Perisic has scored 34 goals in 142 appearances for Inter, finding the net three times in 25 games this term. He previously played for Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge.

Arsenal’s original plan for the January transfer window was to secure loan deals for a versatile midfielder and a winger.

For the midfield role, they remain keen on Barcelona’s Denis Suarez and Christopher Nkunku of Paris St-German.

They see Perisic as a leading option to add width to Unai Emery’s squad.

The report goes on to say that Arsenal are wanting a loan deal with an option to buy, with Inter asking for around £35m-£40m to make the deal permanent. That may seem a good deal, but the Croatian will be turning 30 next week and his form has dipped recently, which is why Inter are willing to cash in. I think it’s a big risk considering his age and the fact that he has never played in the Premier League.
