Is this Arsenal team capable of challenging for the title?

Arsenal’s transfers have made them capable of winning the league!

If you think back to a week ago, our only signings were Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and then two complete unknown ‘talents’ according to Arsene Wenger. It was considered to be a very poor transfer window for Arsenal and the fans had once again become extremely frustrated with Arsene Wenger over his lack of intent in the transfer market.

A week later however and the long overdue signings of Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi have put a smile on the faces of Arsenal fans as we can hope that they can help us stride towards a more challenging position for the league title this season. One expert of the game, who often has his say on Sky Sports about Arsenal, is pundit Charlie Nicholas, who despite showing concern for the Gunners in the past, is this time quite content that Wenger’s signings could give us a real chance of competing this season.

Nicholas said: “I think the team that needed to do business more than anyone else was Arsenal and Arsene Wenger has successfully identified the two areas, positions I’ve been on about for five years, and signed a centre-back and a striker. Unfortunately, they now start five points behind but it’s time for Arsenal fans to move on and be positive again because they’ve come out this transfer window with a squad capable of challenging the Manchester clubs.”

Mustafi and Perez are ‘almost’ in my opinion, the final pieces to the puzzle that Arsenal need to compete at the highest level again. We have added strength to our squad with these signings, especially in defence with Mustafi, although I do still think we lack something up front. However these two signings will be pivotal for the success of our season in my opinion, because they will both be regular starters and key players in their positions. We need Mustafi to add strength and presence to our back line and we need pace, skill and most importantly GOALS, from Perez up front.

As Charlie Nicholas says, Arsenal are slightly on the backfoot already this season given we already find ourselves five points behind the league leaders after three games, but we will undoubtedly catchup and once we do, it’s then important that we don’t drop anymore points due to lacklustre performances.

In my opinion Arsenal arguably may not have the best team in the league, but we have a squad full of talent and a squad that should undoubtedly be challenging for the league title this season.
