Iwobi: ‘Arsenal needs Alexis and Ozil’

Alex Iwobi has claimed that Arsenal need what Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez brings to the team.

The Nigerian enjoyed a top week scoring the winner for his country to help them qualify for the upcoming World Cup, and now has his eye on continuing that form for Arsenal this weekend.

Our team currently has a huge cloud of doubt around it due to the number of contract sagas currently running, with Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere all available for free transfers at the end of the campaign.

The latter looks to be playing for his new deal at present, while the other two seem much more set on leaving the club, and Iwobi for one doesn’t want to see them go.

Iwobi said: “When they are fit they are unstoppable. They are both capable of changing a game or a season.

“They have a big decision to make. But it would be a huge setback to lose them because from the stats you can see we do need them for their goals and assists.

“For a team like Arsenal, we need to be aiming for the top four and we need what they bring.”

“It will be great for them to stay,” he said.

“I’ve learnt a lot from them.

“Just the opportunity to even train with them has been amazing. They are two top class players with great experience having played at the top level.”

Could we still persuade either of the two to stay? Are they replaceable?

  1. It’s all about 11 players on the pitch not just one or two. Yes I really like them both & would hate to see them go, but I think we’ll cope, we have done in the past when players have left

  2. Iwobi is very humble. Arsenal need talented youngsters like him to bring Arsenal back to its glory, after Sanchez and Ozil leave.

If Iwobi can study Sanchez’s skills and movements, he could be a great central attacking midfielder. He needs more chances and better mentor than Wenger, to achieve his potentials.

I hope I can see him play in the next Arsenal match. His close control and physical attributes could help Arsenal to dominate the midfield area.

  3. Tubby and ‘I can’t be bothered to track back’ can do one

Wilshere, Iwobi and Nelson are better players

  4. Anyone who thinks Sanchez and Ozil are not world class players IMO does not “get them”. One can argue whether or not Ozil contributes or not and whether or not he is utilized properly but the same can not be said about Sanchez.

I also think it is a mistake to think just because we can function for a few games without these guys that we won’t miss them.

World class players bring something crucial that can not be replaced and they bring more than their on-pitch performances. They function as role models for younger players in the way they conduct themselves and apply themselves in training as well as educate younger players, they help attract other top players to the club, they help instill some fear in opposing teams etc.

It is also a mistake to believe we will be able to buy a replacement player of similar proven WC status. We will have to invest wisely and buy unproven but promising players. To buy a Sanchez caliber player will cost you £100+, we can’t spend that type of money both because we don’t have and because of other pressing needs.

  5. Arsenal needs Iwobi not Ozil. He is going to warm the bench at Man U or Barca. Maybe Sanchez, but for 400k/week he should go. Good players left Arsenal and we still survived. Mo man is irreplaceable. But I can’t wait for Ozil to go, the guy who want salary increase for trolling the pitch. They think Arsenal is a charity organization. In real work one needs to work hard to earn more. Really tired of Ozil-Sanchez saga

  6. Arsenal is bigger than both Ozil and Sanchez (or any player) but out of the two Sanchez is way more crucial to the team than Ozil.

  7. Iwobi should concentrate on his development not on the management side. As a learner how can he more load on his shoulders

  8. In a way OG’s loyalty is paying off, on the other hand the contract rebels are distracting the squad , it’s very hard but let’s just give Alexis to PSG and get Draxler and Oil to who ever want him but not in England and let’s move on the same way we did when RVP, Fabregas and Nasri left.
