It may well be a tough job for Arsene Wenger to pick his Arsenal forward line to face Watford in our next Premier League game next week, what with Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil said to be fit and available again after their injury lay-offs, but you would have to think that Alex Iwobi is in with a shout.
The young Nigerian international will be feeling pretty good today after scoring the goal that booked a World Cup place for his team. The young Gunner came off the bench to settle the tie against Zambia with the only goal of the game after the likes of Victor Moses and Ighalo had squandered chances.
This continues the recent good form of Iwobi who has looked sharp lately and will be hoping to add to only three Premier League appearances so far this season. His last Arsenal match was the win over Brighton which he did start and played well, scoring a great second goal to secure the points with a little help from some Alexis Sanchez brilliance in the box.
A lot may depend on whether this idea about Ozil’s heart not being in it are true or not, but Iwobi is definitely one of the players knocking on the door and he will be feeling confident whereas the German has not played for a while. Would you start Iwobi at Watford?
Bob.
Yes
iwobi’s penetration and fearlessness is something we need to harness…he needs game time and guidance…he shud be better than asensio…but i doubt wenger’s ability to nuture this players into world class seeing that barely a bunch are even average… Iwobi is ours…play him ahead of that scam ozil…with or without contracts he neva gives 100percent like sanchez or kos
Iwobi is like alexandre Hleb
it doesn’t matter if he scores always or not. What you are sure is a nice transition of the ball from defence to attack in a tinkle of an eye.
His fast foot is really needed in every match.
Iwobi is like a myriad of black
left side, right foot players.
Every club has 2-3. Fast and exciting.
Demari Gray+ Martial+ De Pay come to mind.
They cut in from the left and score a goal
and are given super start status immediately.
But like De Pay many fade quickly.
Even Martial has struggled in an incredibly strong squad.
Clubs then often prefer slower but more reliable more optioned
white players on the wing like Ramsey, Albrighton
Mkhitarian,Erickson, Son Heung Ming Lalana +Greizmann.
Sometimes pace and the odd goal is not enough.
I have always rated Iwobi but think we need to give
him time and a lot of minutes and crucially we need to
prevent him from becoming one dimensional
i.e. over reliant on pace and cutting in from the left.
But a free Iwobi makes 40 mill more sense than an
over hyped Draxler or an over priced 70+ mill Le mar.
Stay with Iwobi and gradually broaden his skill set. It can be done.
I must admit even though he runs round like a headless chicken he took his chance well against Brighton & scored a good goal. He must be buzzing after the goal for Nigeria, so yes give him a go. He has to prove me wrong at some point
Ha!Ha!Ha! Yes I’m of the same mind but maybe we can cut him a bit of slack because of his youth – he was 17 in May. If we then add in his love for Arsenal (like Jack), boundless enthusiasm, modesty and great willingness to learn then we could very well end up with an excellent player.
Seeing as you put it like that…. ok then! ?
So Mustafi has gone off injured. Bloody great
Mustafi’s an accident waiting to happen, constantly diving in, and he doesn’t even want to be at Arsenal! Not to bothered if he’s missing.
Just hope Koscielny will be back for saturday
Hi from Iran ? We qualified as a second team to world cup after Brazil so would you like to use our players as your first team squad too? ?
The advantage iwobi has over the others like walcott, wilishere, welbeck is that he knows when to pass the ball or dribble, he is intelleligent and just needs confidence.
If Alex Ewobi try to improve his tracing back and defending ability, surely he will be a complete player in Arsenal shirt. To do this, let’s give him the chance.
