Last minute Arsenal rumours – Gignac, Mandzukic and Winston Reid

Arsenal have secured the signature of defender Gabriel from Villarreal, but there are still plenty of Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds as we enter the final two days of the transfer window.

The big story from the Telegraph is that the French striker André-Pierre Gignac is being offered around, with Arsenal and Liverpool looking at doing a cheap deal with Marseille for the hotshot striker as he only has six months left on his contract. Although having just turned 29, Gignac is still in fine form having scored 16 goals in the first half of the season. With Danny Welbeck failing to turn into our saviour and his ongoing injury concerns it maybe a good idea to bring in some competition for Giroud…..

They also report that Winston Reid is set to be moved on by West Ham as they now need to cash in having accepted that the defender is not going to sign a new contract, with Liverpool being reported to be making a £6.5m offer. Okay Arsenal now have Paulista, but with Koscielny’s achilles problems and BFG’s erratic form, perhaps we could do with another centre-back with Premiership experience….

much better striker rumor comes from the Metro, who reckon that Arsenal are set to bid £26million for the Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic. The Croatian would easily be first-choice in front of Giroud, and scored another couple of goals yesterday to put Atletico level with Barcelona in La Liga. But even at £26m, why would the Spaniards let him leave right now?

  1. None of these will happen. However reading again today that Schneiderlin is coming to Emirates next summer. Somehow a deal was done last summer with Southampton. Could this possibly have to do something with the rather high fee we paid for Chambers. Just thinking.

  2. Mandzukic offer is total bs.
    Gignac aswell.

Id have winston for 6.5 tho knowing sam he would ask for jenko plus cash .
Is sissoko not worth a shot? If we lose le coq we r in serious sheiser

    1. Just wait and get him on a free.

If someone special turns up then bid. But otherwise wait until the summer.

    2. personally I don’t feel any of these moves make sense.
reid should stick with west ham he isn’t good enough to start for anyone better. with the way west ham are playing Southampton or everton are the only biggish team he could sign for but wouldn’t that be a sideway move?

gignac is in good form but he is a less polished giroud and older I would rather give akpom a chance plus we have podi, campbell, sanogoo still on the books

manzukic is a better giroud but with oliver`s understanding and playing with top quality supporting players he could be just as good by season end. we should keep our money in our pockets and wait till the summer

  3. 26 million for a player who worse then giroud, welbeck, akpon or sanogo?…………Maybe sanogo is pushing it a bit.

      1. And you think 26 MILLION is a bargain, do you? I repeat 26 MILLION.

Dont be fooled by the fact he once played for Bayern.

Is he woeful? No. But is he spectacular? Absolutely not.

Us arsenal fans are seeing the grass as always greener. Sometimes it is but most of the times it isn’t.

        1. nobody thought it was a bargain. I personally wont pay more than 20m for mandzukic services, considering his age and 0 resell value. But to suggest he’s worse than akpom, a 19 year old who hardly seen first team action is ridiculous and delusional.

  4. OT: Looking at the match day sheet for today and was surprised to see ‘de abreu’ on the bench, I thought who?!
Our new man of course, doh 🙂

  5. Mandzucic is a quality player

Unfortunately, I think Wenger is satisfied with his signings. Wenger said “highly unlikely”, not just “unlikely” that there would be any more.

Wenger just wanted enough to get 4th place.

    1. i think weve had a good transfer so far buddy
we all wanted a decent c b brought in ,, done ,, hopefully hes a good buy we will see
he brought a young prospect d m who could turn out good
the coq should be givern a chance this season then add another decent tough player with footballing ability in summer , arteta and flamini can cover the coq in easier games till then
so all in all weve done ok especially as alot were slatting wenger that he would do nothing
also got deadline day maybe a good loan winger ? stricker ? who knows
