Latest injury blow rules Wilshere OUT of Arsenal v Liverpool

If there was any chance of the Arsenal and England international midfield star Jack Wilshere shaking off his latest injury problem in time to help the Gunners in the first game of our Premier League campaign then I am sure that Arsene Wenger would have had him in the squad that has gone to Scandinavia for the final two games of pre-season.

As reported by the Evening Standard, though, the injury plagued Gunner has been left behind while his team mates fly off to face Viking FK tomorrow night and then Manchester City on Sunday.

The problem is the Patella in Wilshere’s troublesome knee and although it is said to be only a minor injury that will not keep him out of action for long, it is a blow as we do not have Santi Cazorla or Mesut Ozil available for the clash with Liverpool next weekend either.

One bit of good news is the inclusion in the squad of our Brazilian defender Gabriel who missed the trip to America due to Tonsilitis. Wenger will be hoping that his only properly experienced centre back will be fit and sharp for the EPL opener, while the inclusion of Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey suggests that he is considering one or both of them for the Liverpool game as well. Here is the squad in full.

GK: Petr Cech, David Ospina, Emiliano Martinez.

Defence: Mathieu Debuchy, Nacho Monreal, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, Gabriel, Kieran Gibbs.

Midfield: Francis Coquelin, Krystian Bielik, Mohamed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Iwobi, Granit Xhaka, Santi Cazorla, Gedion Zelalem, Jeff Reine-Adelaide.

Forward: Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chris Willock, Alexis Sanchez, Joel Campbell, Chuba Akpom.

How do you think Arsenal will line up against the Anfield mob next Sunday?

    1. Did you doubt we would face West Ham mob last season ? Or Aston Villa mob the season before ? We have a record of screwing up the first game of the season

      1. Nah, just saying that Anfield mob usually is what you find where the mob’s to be found. Like the stands. And to my knowledge we have a wee wait for our first Anfield visit this season.

  1. Shout out to Gnabry and Asano… Both scored some nice goals with great finishes against pretty strong sides in the competition!

  2. Wenger knows jack ? about jacks injury! ?
Last week wenger said that it was only a small injury and that jack would be okay to take part in the Scandinavian tour.
Tick – Tock And you know whats coming next…. Right? ?
Jack Wheelchair is out For 3 months with ligament damage!

Mate, i ain’t no clairvoyant but all these Dejavu – Groundhog Day scenarios have become so boringly predictable! ?

I’m sure that Wheelchair will be fit and available for Fat Sam and England ?

    1. Dejavu is right. It is Diaby all over again. A player with great talent and brittle legs, who Wenger will keep on for years, paying a fat salary, and we’ll see him 3 or 4 times before he’s out for the season.

      1. Only thing is that there will be no Wenger to extend his contract next season. I have made peace with the thought that Wilshere will never play again as he used to. Ffs, he’s having steel rods in his bone. No way he will ever be complete again. Look at Ramsey. Once he picked that injury it is inevitable that he won’t be sidelined for at least 3 months a season. Fact.
Comparison with Diaby are a bit unfair. At least Diaby was not caught smoking. Man, how I loved that guy and how bad I wanted him to succeed. Strangely, I don’t feel the same for Wilshere. I even forgot he exists. Just like Walcott and Ox.

      2. About time we got rid of Mr Wilshere. What’s the betting ‘one match’ turns out to be ‘just after Christmas’?. Getting seriously fed up with his injuries.

    2. Truth… But for some reason it’s a lot more.. ‘Meh’ than in previous seasons.
I think a big reason is we’re not looking at a squad with Flim-Flam, Rosicky and Arteta in it wondering how many games they’re likely to knock up between them for 240k in wages.
Jack’s down? Fine… We have Xhaka, Coquelin, Elneny, Ramsey, Ozil and Cazorla still fighting it out for three positions! Our MF looks a hell of a lot more stable with Elneny and Xhaka added.

  3. Get fit.
    Declare yourself fit for England.
    Get injured.
Sit and pick up your huge salary for months for doing nothing.
    Repeat.

A day in the life of Jack Wilshere…

  4. Kloop has good players in and they are nice and fit and I think they will wipe the floor with us because he paid for players unlike us. Holding I think could go in with LK o sorry he’s not back and we have no cover there do we. Let’s face it we won’t win can’t win that’s life but this season will come down to 3 games lost city United Liverpool spuds Chelsea Arsenal lestster

  5. I hate to say it but Jack’s career looks more and more like a waste as time progresses.. Sucks big time for the guy but he’s definitely on the Diaby-way maybe the PL just isn’t meant to be for him.

  6. Wilshere is frustrating, he has talent but he can’t stay fit… His wages could go towards someone who is fit and can help us in the EPL.

I wish he could get and stay fit but even I am thinking it could be best to sell Wilshere and promote someone from within, Wilshere can’t be counted on and neither could a youth, at least a youth would offer us more promise than an injured Wilshere.

The money and wages can be put towards a CF or CB currently… or as it is unlikely we will sell him this window, he could be funds for the next season if we can find a buyer in the next 12 months. Spend a bit more this year (bit as in 10-15mil EXTRA) and we should be able to get Lacazette before the 1st game of the season.

Our Def might not be great but we can defend higher up a bit better now we have 3 CM who enjoys a tough tackle, we win a game by scoring more goals and last season we had difficulty in scoring… I would be more willing to trust our CM to help defend compared to scoring goals.
