Liverpool make contact with want-away Arsenal star

Liverpool are claimed to have made official contact with Kieran Gibbs over a potential move from Arsenal this summer.

The left-back has fallen out of Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans this season, emphatically favouring Nacho Monreal for the role in the defence.

Gibbs is now believed to be eager on securing an exit in search of regular action, and Arsenal are linked with a number of replacements.

The North-London side are supposedly interested in Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell, but more recently are claimed to be ready to trigger Ricardo Rodriguez’s release clause of €25 Million. The Wolfsburg full-back is very highly-rated in Germany, and could become our second arrival from the Bundesliga this summer.

For Gibbs however, his future is up-in-the-air currently, but the reported interest from Liverpool could be welcomed.

The Anfield club are in an exciting phase at present, following the arrival of the passionate Jurgen Klopp as manager. The German boss has led his side to two finals in his short stint in charge of the club this season, and is expected to have a positive impact on the future of the side in the coming years.

It is not known whether Arsene Wenger would have a problem with allowing Gibbs to potentially improve Liverpool’s options, while it has become clear that his place at the Emirates is uncertain.

Alberto Moreno would provide the England international competition on Merseyside should he make the switch, and Gibbs would likely seek assurances over game-time, otherwise he would be in a similar boat he had been in with Arsenal this season.

Would you let him join Liverpool this summer? Is he simply not good enough to warrant a place in our squad any longer?

    1. I do think that if we are to secure the services of Rodriguez, then we should let Gibbs go but try to avoid strengthening our competition. Chamberlain, Theo, Gibbs, should not end up at Man UTD, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham.

  1. If Vardy comes we have one new homegrown. Ideally we have 8 as to have maximum squad depth of 25 over 21 year olds. However we a few more younger under 21 like Bellerin, Chambers, Iwobi that play or can play in the first team.

    Our Homegrowns now including Vardy are:
    * Vardy
    * Welbeck
    * Ramsey
    * Coquelin
    * Oxlade
    * Walcott
    * Gibbs
    * Willshere
    * Jenkinson
    * Martinez
    * Szczesny (loan)

    That is 10 if we take Martinez back. I can see Arsenal sell Gibbs and Walcott and maybe Oxlade. So that number will drop to 7 or 6 (without Martinez or Szczesny coming back). With Debuchy or Jenkinson at RB, maybe Jenks will be pushed into being loaned. So the number could drop to 5.

    What this means is we will never sell Wilshere or Ramsey on top of that is then the numbers and squad depth get seriously low.

    1. You have also forgotten Macey and wellington who are both now classed as over 21 and homegrown.

      1. Macey yes you are right here. As for Wellington he does not qualify as homegrown, he was loaned out at young ages to the Spain.

    1. Cech
      Bellerin/Koscielny/Benatia/Rodriguez
      Xhaka/Cazorla
      Mkhitaryan/Ozil/Alexis
      Vardy

  2. Wenger recently made a comment about 3 players being the right amount for him (if I my memory serves me correctly?), so I’m wondering if we could only be getting 1 more player in after Vardy is confirmed? Who would it be?
    1. Xhaka
    2. Vardy
    3?
    – Ricardo Rodriguez replacing Gibbs? (been doing the rounds recently),
    – A new CB? New winger?? I’d love Griezmann but I know it’s highly unrealistic lol
    – Morata (also been doing the rounds) he can play on the wing as well as up top, if I’m not mistaken??

    1. Wenger also commented a few years ago whe tottenham signed a lot of new players, he said that trying to integrate more than about three new players was difficult. By that i think he was referring to new players from outside rather than promoting youngsters already at the club.

  3. It is next to impossible to imagine Arsenal signing more than four players. Morel ikely he’ll sign Xhaka, Vardy (if the rumors are true) and maybe two from Ricardo Rodriguez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Riyad Mahrez, and N’golo Kante. If the Vardy rumors are true, Morata is out. He’s a center forward and with Vardy, Giroud, and Walcott ( Wenger already said he was keeping Theo at the cub next year) and Akpom returning; there’s no room for another striker.

    Mkhitaryan or Mahrez look like they might fit. With Elneny, Coquelin, and Xhaka, it’s hard to picture Arsenal also signing Kante. That’s just too much defensive mass in the side for an Arsene Wenger coached side.

    Ricardo Rodriguez is a good player but Gibbs is too. Kalidou Coulibaly is a player who looks and plays like he belongs at Arsenal. Given a choice between losing Gibbs and bringing in Rodriguez or just signing Coulibaly, I’d rather have the Napoli man. and make the Gunners four deep at CB (w/ Chambers going out on loan, or so rumor has it).

    Remember, Jon Toral, Alex Iwobi, Wellington, Serge Gnabry, Gedion Zelalem, Chris Willock, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Glen Kamara, and Carl Jenkinson are all either returning from loans. Toral looked really good for Birmingham, Zelalem did well for Rangers, and Willock was very good for the youth teams. Expect at least two or three of these players to make appearances for the first team.
