“Loftus Road has been a fortress this year” LOL!

Arsenal make the short trip across London to face QPR this evening, and while researching on the internet ahead of the game I found this interesting quote from the QPR midfielder Matt Phillips.

He said on the official Rangers website: “Arsenal play a style of football where they keep the ball and make you work hard chasing it.

“But we’re at home and I believe we can beat anyone at Loftus Road. If we play our game, I think we can get three points to help us climb the table.

“It’s important that we build on our home form this season. We’ve been good at home so far, but we have to continue that now.

Loftus Road has been a bit of a fortress for us this year. And our away performances are beginning to improve, too. Hopefully we can start picking up more points on the road.”

So obviously having read that, I was getting a bit concerned for tonights match, so I decided to check for the results from Loftus Road. Now I seriously think that Phillips should be sued for misrepresenting the facts!

Arsenal beat QPR 2-1 on Boxing Day (remember Giroud getting sent off?) and since that day QPR have played five games at Loftus Road. They started off with two draws against Palace and Swansea. They then lost 0-3 to Sheffield United in the FA Cup, followed by a 0-2 defeat to Man United and then Southampton despatched them 1-0.

So that makes five games with just one goal scored, how does Matt Phillips make that into a fortress this year?

There is a slightly worrying stat I found, which is that the Gunners have only won once in 6 Premier League visits to QPR, and also that we haven’t won two away games in a row all season. In fact after every away win we have lost the next one! Surely that can’t happen again at “fortress Loftus Road”?

  1. “Loftus road has been a fortress this year L()L” …….. Really its not funny, considering how inconsistent we could sometimes be…… Hope we aren’t indirectly underestimating a team ere????

  2. You are mocking them right? Arsenal should really be wary of those who come out and boast – both players and fans. These may be the reason we lose certain matches.

    1. I am NOT mocking the QPR team. I am mocking someone who calls his ground a “fortress this year” when they haven’t won ONE game this particular year there….

  3. This is reminding me of the immense sense of confidence we had prior to the Monaco game. Let’s just keep our mouths shut about QPR, go into the game with all guns blazing and support the players.

  4. we beat Palace at their homeground, we can pick 3points tonight please please #COYG

  5. A few years ago. I can’t remember exact year. But that year we had a bad 1st half of season and then we had the best 2nd half of the season then any other team in the PL.

That’s what we need to replicate right now. Lets go on a long winning streak. Only the players need to play with passion and hard work. If they do that our quality will shine through

QPR are beatable. We have more quality. We should not underestimate them but we should be positive and play positive football. If we do that we will win.

I think this is a MUST win
    1. We need a win going into Old Trafford. A loss to United will be devastating and will surely end any chance of winning a trophy.
    2. Southampton is 2 points behind us and United is 1 point behind us. We don’t want to lose our 3rd place position.
    3. Could affect performance of rest of the season

  6. If we go into this thinking we’ve already won then it might be another monaco spanking again.
