Lucas Perez set for rare start against Crystal Palace?

Lucas Perez, the Spanish striker signed by Arsenal in the summer transfer window from Deportivo La Coruna, is still waiting for his first Premier League goal. Given the fact that he has only made five league appearances and just one from the start, however, I do not think we can be too hard on him for that.

It does appear that the 28-year old is taking a bit of time to get used to his new club and the challenges of playing in the English Premier League but he has shown some good signs, such as the Champions League hat-trick against Basel and the EFL cup brace against Nottingham Forest.

He does also have an assist in the EPL and he really should have had another from the win over West Brom, as he put in a peach of a ball across the six yard that was begging for any touch to take it in. That was not the forward’s only moment of class either, as he impressed in a good 20 minute cameo off the bench at the end.

I reckon that Lucas has given Arsene Wenger a lot to think about as the boss prepares for the visit of Crystal Palace, especially if Theo Walcott is not going to be able to play. I think that it might be a good idea to start the Spaniard and that would allow Alexis Sanchez to go central and Olivier Giroud could be ready to do his super sub job if needed.

Even if Walcott plays I think there is a case to be made for Lucas to start ahead of Alex Iwobi, who is showing some great skills but needs to be sharper in front of goal. Lucas is a goal scorer and that could be vital in what I expect to be another tight game. What do you guys think?

  1. Jansen says:

Lucas was a waste of money. The guy has done everything you could expect of him and more yet Wenger treats him like an other Podolski.

I could live with that if Iwobi or Ox owned the left wing, but both have had good and disappointing games on the left and IMO Perez is both a better finisher than Iwobi or Ox and a better crosser.

Wenger should not have wasted the 17 million on him if he didn’t like him. It is hard to understand what Perez has done wrong.

      Ummm.. He was injured? duh…

      1. Jansen says:

I could have sworn he was not only available for selection but on the bench many many many times. My mistake. When will he be available? We could have used him in the past few games.

          Suggested team:

          Bellerin – Holding – Koscielny – Monreal
          Xhaka – Ramsey
          AOC – Ozil – Sanchez

Every week Lucas is set for a rare start but alas it’s not to be
Tell me!…. What must he do next to get his deserved rare start…… & he’s not getting any younger

    1. Break-on-through says:

He’s maybe only meant to get minutes here and there. So if Alexis pulls up we will have someone who can come in without having to change our style of play.

  3. Wilshegz says:

start Lucas-Alexis-Walcott for christ-mas sake, Wenger!!

  4. Bobbyraz says:

Lucas perez is the joel campbell of this no matter what he does wenger will continue to overlook him, for reasons we will never undrstand 🙁

  5. Break-on-through says:

I was more impressed by Gabriel giving Perez a rollocking than by Perez in truth. The way Perez just watched in the dying seconds as he stood closest to the danger, they could have easy made us pay for that. I was even happier hearing that it continued into the tunnel, Gabriel and Perez, so well done Gabriel as we shouldn’t have to put up with that sort of thing. I just hope he’s willing to give Ozil the same treatment.
