Mercenary Ramsey gets his wish – No more Arsenal contract talks….

I have been telling everyone for months that Aaron Ramsey had no intention of signing a new Arsenal contract, and will either hold the club to ransom for a massive pay rise in January, or will leave for free next summer to get an enormous signing on fee when he joins a new club.

The Mail reports this morning….

Aaron Ramsey is set to follow the example set by Mesut Ozil and leave a final decision about new contract until January.

The 27-year-old Wales international will be a free agent at the end of the season as he enters the last year of his current deal. As yet, there has been no agreement about a contract extension.

Talks are ongoing but Ramsey is now likely to wait until the start of next year. He will then be able to listen to offers from clubs in Europe and be entitled to sign a pre-contract to join at the end of this season when he will be a free agent.

There are just five days left for Arsenal to sell Ramsey to a foreign club, but I can see Ramsey himself blocking any deal so he gets his massive payday next year. Ramsey is our longest serving player right now so I find it extremely disappointing that he doesn’t want to stay and try and work his way to becoming a club legend. To be honest his performances have not been that impressive and the club have supported him through all his injuries over the years.

Are all footballers now officially mercenaries?

  1. He should have been sold in the summer. Period.

Doesn’t matter if your name is Ramsey, Ozil or Messi… The moment a player enters the last year of their contract they should be right out the door as they clearly have no real intention of signing anything or they would not risk theit futures at the club by doing so.

Sell him to a non-rival or abroad, use the money to reinvest in players who want to play for the club and not hold it for ransom. Simple.

    1. Unfortunately it is not simple – once he’s decided on taking advantage of just going to end of contract there is nothing the club can do as he will simply just not sign for anyone. The club can get angry and say he must play in the reserves for the last season but in effect its cutting off your nose to spike your face.
George Graham was famous at getting renewals done when the player concerned had an injury or was way off form. eg worried about their future. In recent years Arsenal has simply not been savvy enough I’m afraid and hence have been silly with certain contracts which backfires when the club cannot sell them because of the salary. Jenkinson, Debuchy, Welbeck to name a few. And why should they go – unless Arsenal pay up the remainder of their contract. What if Ozil continues in the duldrums – it would be utterly impossible to sell him because of wages. If they did not want his body language then pay up 3.5 years left at 300k per week and cancel the contract.
Arsenal have wasted money in the past and have done so again this summer – buying Sokratis and Leno for 40 million plus. They could have bought Fabanski for 6/7 million and Chambers is clearly better than Sokratis. In my mind thats another 33 million watsed this summer.
The club clearly have a long way to go to regain some control of finances and players.

  2. But what did wenger and now emery actually see in him as a player ? I know most fans on here do not want him in the team ,me included,he brings absolutely nothing to the team ,just leaves us open every time he goes up top to try and pull some fancy trick off (which never come off ) .he wouldn’t get into any of the other top teams midfield so why do we play him .
I would bench him all season and let him go play some where else next season .
The amount of misplaced passes he did yesterday was typical of his play for the last 8 years .
He had one good season and even then that’s when he thought he was a centre forward

  3. Just finished watching the arsenal game again with more interest on our tactics…. its was clear how we were playing with 2 at the back oh Arsenal??
    cexh
    …….mus…….sok…..

    bell….xhaka….then…..monrl
    …..
    mhiki…… ramsy.. ….iwobi….

    ..,……..auba……….
at some point bell was inline with mhiki and iwobi while ramsy will be in the box… the only constant was mustafi and sokritis well left with all the defensive duties

  4. Thinking back on the preseason our players looked tired but happy especially a certain Auba, Miki,Laca and Ozil and there were talks of them all playing together and how wonderful it’s going to be now our coach takes a different direction and I wonder if the players are not so happy
Ramsey isn’t worth talking about sorry he’s got no talent as being a hard worker doesn’t qualify

    1. I would not mind if he asked for a reasonable increase in wages given the environment now
allows for even mediocre players to get inflated paychecks.
But his idea of what he worths is ridiculous. Double his wages? He was overpaid at 110k a week
      to begin with.
Arsenal have managed to have a whole bunch of average footballers in high wages.
Walcott at 110k a week was criminal. Welbeck at 70k is insane.
Xhaka at 35mil and 120k is suicidal.
why can we not buy a fucking midfielder like Jorginho? If we took back what we paid to buy
lemons we could actually compete with the top clubs.
Wenger and Gazidis have done a massive disservice to the club buying garbage.
Hopefully someone can reverse this. If this does not get sorted out fast we will be in middle table for the next 5 years.
Fulham for Gods sake bought Seri and Liverpool brought Keita in both major influences
      WTF is wrong with Arsenal?

  5. He wants to play, so bench him. Bench him until the window opens & then sell him. No player is bigger than the club…. and I thought he was crap yesterday. Greedy bloody sod

    1. Yes Sue 🙂
Throw him with the reserves even? Forget allowing him to sit on the bench and well… maybe be seen by cameras and kept in the social light..

I wish Gazidis would start getting contracts sorted, we do tend to be going through a contract issue every season now… Not fair on the fans.

      1. He obviously thinks he’s a lot better than he actually is!
Yes Midkemma this contract drama is getting a bit much now!
I won’t lose any sleep over selling him that’s for sure!

        1. I look forward to Ramsey being out of the lime light in the Arsenal reserves, then in future watching him stew on the Manchester United or Chelsea bench, if not playing back at Cardiff.
The current £110,000 per week, let alone the mooted £250,000 per week, can be better spent on a new CM or preferably CB and winger.

    2. Why bench him? Stick him in the reserves until he makes a decision and if he decides to hold on for a free, keep him there until the end of the season. He’ll be lucky to get a contract over £100k per week.

  6. Unai Emery is joking with the Premier League! His centre back pairing is a big joke! How do you pair sleeping Mustafi and static Sokratis in the centre of your defence in the Premier League? If the defensive mess is not resolved quickly, I don’t see us getting into top six, let alone top four, this season. Wait until you see the number of goals we will ship in when we play a hard-pressing team like Liverpool away! I thought conceding two many goals (40 plus goals on average under Wenger for the last 10 years) would now be a thing of the past, but with our current defensive mess, we may concede 40 by December!

    1. NT, if you watch the matches, Arsenal is leaving too much space at the back with the CB’s unprotected, because Bellerin and Monreal are bombing forward at the same time and Bellerin in particular is wandering back with no urgency when the ball is lost.
Lichtsteiner at RB will improve the overall performance of the defense with his leadership (current Swiss captain), experience, discipline, toughness, tactical nous and winning mentality (7 Seria A titles).

  7. With respect Darren N, I was saying it long before you what Ramsey is intending to do. He has no intention of signing a new contract unless he’s offered £300K a week. Who does this useless idiot think he is, Andres Iniesta? If, and I’m 99.9% sure we won’t give him that, he’ll be negotiating with another club in January and will join them next summer on a free. As I said a long time ago, this is all about money. Put the greedy bastard in the reserves and when nobody offers anywhere near to the money he thinks he is worth offload him back to Cardiff City which In my opinion has always been his level.

  8. We all remember how toxic the atmosphere was this time last season when Sanchez didn’t get his move. The last thing we need is a repeat of this. The Club would never back down to Ramsey if his demands are unrealistic. If he feels he could get more money and a regular start elsewhere then why didn’t he put in a transfer request? He obviously believes he will get a free at the end of his contract and if that’s what he wants then let’s see what his worth is after a season playing Carabao and Europa League Football up until the new year.
He’s a good player. He is not and never will be a great player.AMN and Guadonzi COULD become great players.I would sooner go through a season watching those two Young players making their mark than have to watch Ramsey playing for himself.
Just stick him on the bench and let him rot out his season. His loss will be bigger than ours

    1. We could also ask, why didn’t Arsenal put Ramsey on a transfer list? I’m sure there would be many interest if Arsenal are willing to sell him under ten millions

If Ramsey doesn’t perform well or doesn’t focus on the club, the head coach can always leave him on the bench. But they must do it fairly, otherwise unfair treatment would create another unhealthy jealousy and negative thinking among his teammates

Arsenal just repeated their mistakes with Sanchez, Ozil, Chamberlain and now Ramsey/ Welbeck. At least Sanchez gave us Mkhitaryan and Chamberlain gave Arsenal 35M in return

But Ozil, Ramsey and Welbeck? Ozil managed to suck Arsenal’s wage funds every week without real contribution since his salary raise. I believe Arsenal would not be that stupid to give similar raise to Ramsey in January

  9. Let him sit on the bench . No use playing him and having him as part of the future if he wants to go.

  10. Sell. Sell Sell.
No one player is bigger than the club
Don’t give in to his demands
Even if he is sold to a rival, he won’t increase their quality by much.
He isn’t worth the pay rise
Get a better central midfielder either January or next summer
    Give Niles a shot.

  11. The bench is too good for someone who is not putting in 100% and going through contract issues. Train alone… or with the reserves and tell the reserves that this will happen to you if you do not commit.

It has to be said though that we Arsenal fans have not always been the best fans for players to feel loved by, ohhh we are good when we are winning but when the backs are against the wall then a lot of you turn on each other like a pack of wild animals.

Just read some of the comments from you lot over the past couple months. This player isn’t good enough, that player isn’t good enough, most of our team is crp!

    Need an example?

Bellerin. So many people jumping on the bandwagon of he should be sold and not good enough for a sunday league team… FANATICS. When you act like a fanatic over being a supporter then you are equally moronic as religious fanatics or political fanatics. People who are so ignorant and unwilling to learn that the offending issue gets made out to be demonic, not just got a flaw (like all humans) but it is Satan’s spawn.

Look how you lot treated Wenger, blaming him for being tight fisted and dithering over contracts.
How much did we have to spend on a rebuild? Are we not talking about contract running down?

    How about this…

Ramsey is hurting a lot of Arsenal supporters because they have invested themselves into him, backed him and followed him. Now he could be leaving they want to get the 1st nasty part in so they can say to themselves afterwards “well I was right about that crp player, I’m not hurt in the slightest”.

  12. I think Aaron Ramsey should know that he has been playing with fire that could burn him by taking a gamble not to extend his contract deal at Arsenal now.

For his being an injury prone player who cannot play beyond 10 matches on the trot in the PL if he even gets to that without getting sidelined for injury, I think Ramsey will be taking a risky by delaying extending his deal at the club waiting until he is offered a deal that’s financially acceptable to him but not acceptable to Arsenal. Has he reckon with injury he could suddenly picked up that could keep him sidelined for a long spell during this season’s campaign. Which if it happened to him, no club will sign him since he can’t undergo a medical to pass it.

So, let’s wait to see if the issue will boil down to Arsenal cleverly dogged a bullet from hitting them by not giving in to Ramsey huge financial demand to extent

  14. Sell sell sell. The welsh diva is great in his own mind. Selfish, undisciplined, and egotistical. No bench, put in U-23 and let him rot all year.

Make an example so no other player tries this shit.

Have club rule that if not signing an extension with 18 months left on contract, shift to bench and put on transfer list.

Be interesting to see if Emery stands up to Ramsey and lays down the law, or will he cower and buckle to player and do as Ramsey wants.

Now is when the owner and or board should step in and tell both player and manger this shit is unacceptable and Ramsey is domestic cup or injury cover or U-23 bound.

  15. I find it rich that the people on here who are acting so indignantly, are, in the main, the exact same ones who blamed Wenger for the situations such as this.
Wasn’t the battlecry from the out brigade that this would never happen again?
Wasn’t it all going to come up roses once he was stripped of his all consuming powers?
Wasn’t the three musketeers going to be the best thing since sliced bread?
Wasn’t the new backroom staff going to coach properly because he never could?
Yet here we are arguing about contracts, team selection, coaching, terrible signings and golden boy players!!!!!
Just maybe the chickens are coming home to roost and the reality of running AFC is not as simple as you all thought?
The new manager is already being questioned on all the above subjects after just three months….. where has the time element gone that was promised to Emery?
If only it was as easy as some of you think it is, I have to ask why your not all professional managers yourselves?
Give this man a chance at least before you throw him to the wolves. He needs our patience, understanding and support.
To my mind, there are two factors that are consistent throughout, the owner and the board… Kronkie and Gazidis.
Ask yourselves what role these two people have to do with our demise.
Well done Emery and the players for the win yesterday, looking forward to seeing you progressing as the season unfolds.

  16. At least 6 times a game he starts a dangerous counter attack for the opposition while casually jogging back..at least 5 times a game he places teammates in dangerous positions by leading his passes into defenders..he almost ended monreal’s season..twice..not to mention Iwobi..he has had accumulativey 1.5 good years out of what, 10..everybody was bagging on our defenders, but it was more our midfield that was more to blame in my opinion..Torreira has to be the holding mf from here on out..should have sold Ramsey to Chelsea when we had the chance..just put him in reserves..we have plenty of mf options now to put up with his garbage
