New injury could have massive implications for Jack Wilshere

It looks we were all being premature about Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere being England’s saviour for the World Cup, even though we were all excited about him getting his first call up to the national team for two years. But now, as always happens when Jack gets his England chance, he has gone down with another knee injury.

I’ve never heard of the latest problem that he has gone down with, but this is how the Mail reported it: Wilshere was hoping to win his first cap since Euro 2016 during the double header but did not travel to Amsterdam for Friday’s 1-0 defeat of the Dutch having succumbed to a bout of tendinopathy in his knee.

Southgate initially described the decision as precautionary and suggested the Arsenal midfielder had a chance to featuring against the Azzurri at Wembley on Tuesday, though that has now been ruled out.

Tendinopathy? Do they invent new injuries just for Jack? I’ve just had a check on google and tendonipathy is appararently a chronic case of tendonitis, which can take ages to fix and will involve a lot of rest. But whatever it is, this could be a huge problem for Wilshere is he is not fit enough to play in England’s last two friendlies before the trip to Russia. How will Southgate pick him if he doesn’t actually see him play with his England team-mates? I just seriously hope that he recovers quickly and can show Southgate what he can do for Arsenal until the next friendlies. If it is worse than we think, it will also affect his contract talks with all the interested parties….
