New League rules mean Arsenal MUST sell some stars

Arsenal fans, or most of us at any rate, would be happy to see Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil put pen to paper on contract extensions to keep them at the Emirates Stadium for the next few years. The Chilean especially will be an extremely difficult player to replace and former players and the Arsenal fans want Wenger and the board to do whatever it takes to keep these key players.

Whatever it takes could mean a lot more than we previously thought, though, as the Daily Mail is reporting that Premier League rules on wages and the limit of how much they can rise from one season to the next will almost certainly force Arsene Wenger to sell at least two of the club’s other big earners in order to offer Alexis and Ozil the wages they want.

The current Arsenal players being linked with transfers away from north London include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Olivier Giroud, Kieran Gibbs and Wojciech Szczesny, while we have the likes of Theo Walcott on large salaries and he would surely interest a few clubs.

The problem is that we may be forced to sell to a direct EPL rival and that is never going to go down well with the Arsenal faithful, so which Gunners would you like Wenger to offload if needs must?

  1. I guess I’d have to short it ?” sell everything including the mascot?in order to keep A and ة”?

    1. Walcott’s been spending a lot of time with the mascot on the sidelines lately, so off he goes too!

  2. We really should consider a swap deal of Aguero for Sanchez, that way its like getting Sanchez to sign a new contract without the unnecessary drama and no significant difference in wages. I’d like to believe Aguero will be an upgrade on Lacazzete, Premier League tried and tested too.

  3. What’s everyone doing for Xmas/thanksgiving?

Will some be here as you know how time flies..

  4. We currently have 80 players on the books, so sales, loans and even a few more releases are required. Of that. 80, 10 are goalkeepers of which 6 are born 1995 or before. I would say that at least 3 of those need to go. My advice would be to sell ospina, then loan out martinez and macey, whilst giving iliev the chance to be the u23 and prove his fitness. I would promote Huddart as the 3Rd keeper as he would not take a space in the 25 and would still be on a relatively lower wage than the other keepers. Cech and Szczesney to share the first team work load.

Next out of the door has to be jenkinson, Debuchy, Kamara, Toral, Campbell, akpom, whilst I understand the willock brothers are out of contract.

The next decision to be made is can we keep 6 centre backs happy? Mustafi Mertesacker and Koscielny are probably the best 3 but they are not really that far ahead of Chambers Holding and Gabriel. I am hoping that we keep all 6, as our injury record in that department is not great.

If we can manage to keep hold of our right wing backs, bellerin and ox, then along with maitland-niles, I think we have more than enough cover. Similarly on the left kolasinac and Monreal along with Bramall should be ample. This would suggest that gibbs could be sold and Tafari Moore sent out on loan or also sold.
In the midfield we really need to make a decision on wilshire and cazorla, both are in their last year, both have injury problems and I personally think we should listen to offers for both as sad as that might be, we need to be ruthless this summer window. If both are sold then a replacement would be required. I am also unsure about the quality of coquelin and elneny as the only back up to xhaka and ramsey. Bakayoko, Seri or Lemina would be my choice. In the attacking midfield it is essential we keep ozil and alexis, whilst I don’t think the cover of walcott, iwobi, Adelaide and Nelson will be strong enough, so even without the worry of ozil and alexis I think we need re-inforcements there. Personally I would sell walcott and bring in lemar and mahrez, with barkley and turan other options and then we could loan out adelaide.

Finally, strikers Welbeck, giroud and perez. I am not sure any of the 3 are particularly great Welbeck works hard but doesn’t score enough. Giroud offers us something the other two cannot, but still flatters to deceive whilst perez is so obviously out of favour. I would not be surprised if all 3 were sacrificed this summer, so that wenger can sign Mbappe and lacazette.

Now I know that sounds like a lot of signings but there is an opportunity this summer to also get some good prices for players that are just not really cutting it in the starting x1, whilst saving on some wages in order to keep the best players.

    1. I think this is a really well thought out reply. I struggle with one suggestion only. To sell Santi Cazorla is not thought out. Players of his ilk are at their peak untill 33-34. He adds more to our quality and possession play than any other player. If he can recover his fitness levels he would be our main man along with, hopefully, Sanchez.

  5. Although we played great football in the cup final we were extremely poor for most of last season, Walcott and Giroud were so inconsistent they could never be part of a PL winning side. Ozil and Ramsey were inconsistent but have potential when feeling on point. Gibbs is not at the level any more. Perez hasn’t had a chance. Coquelin is not good enough and Debuchy is not up to the level needed.. Chambers and Joel Campbell are not up to PL winning standards. I hope we can hold on to Sanchez as he is truly on another level. We could win the League with him. Lacazette in not spectacular but is insanely accurate and he would sharpen us up. Along with Sanchez and Welbeck, he could make us a goal-scoring force again. If Cazorla can get his fitness and Mojo back he is unique. One the few Xavi, Iniesta like players left in the World. He could dominate for a couple more years. Leon Goretzka looks a tall imposing like midfield player who could play alongside Granit Xhaka and make a Viera/Gilberto midfield. Tomas Lemar looks spot on and we should splash la cash. Lastly hats of to the most improved player in the squad, Nacho Monreal. He has been probably, along with Alexis, our player of the season.

  6. Here is my response to a few pending issues. First, it doesn’t depend entirely on us to keep Alexis. If that is the impression you have, you are wrong. Alexis is a top player who has played for the best team in the world and can walk into any team in the world. He is a winner and he has made the decision that he stands a better chance of winning trophies with other top teams like Bayern and Man City. That is why he wants out. Just observe what has been happening. First he makes a near impossible demand of 300k a week, knowing that we cannot pay that amount. And then after much difficulty, we succumb to his demands and what does he do? He raises the bar even higher by demanding 420k a week now. That is ridiculous. That is what someone does when he absolutely wants out. Wake up folks. Alexis does not want to play for us anymore, even if we buy Mbappe, Lacazzette and Aubameyang. Alexis is gone. And keeping him against his will will backfire. Last season, we got a taste of how destructive he can be in the dressing room on the pitch. He is doing everything he can to force a move. Personally, if he insists on moving to city, let us demand a top player like Aguero or Kevin in return. Rumour has it that Man city is willing to let Aguero join us in some sort of swap deal. I say take the deal. But Alexis Sanchez has played his last game for us. We will miss him but we need to move on.

As for whom to sell, I can answer that question indirectly by telling you whom not to sell. We will be crazy to sell Walcot. With the exception of Sanchez, do you know any other winger in the epl who scores more goals than Walcot? Yes he frustrates us and cannot dribble. But he is also one of our most reliable goal getters. The only players who can replace Walcot and outperform him are players like Bale, Ronaldo, Hazard and Messi. Can we afford those? No. Goals win games. Mahrez is a dazzling winger. But he only scored three goals last season. Walcot scored 19 goals. Lay of him or get us Bale to replace him.

    1. Yes okay Walcott scored a lot of goals for a winger but with only 2 assists and his failure to adept to the new system and 28 years of age this is the perfect time to sell. He was very productive but for he proved this season he is not at a level to win the premier league. Mahrez did have a shabby season but he was not the only one at Leicester.
Swapping Alexis for Aguerro is just silly stuff. Only when they would offer Sané..

  7. Sell Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey, Coquelin, Debuchy, and Je nkinson. Especially Ozil, he demands 275k/week. Useless lazy Ozil and Giroud

  8. No player is bigger than Arsenal if Sanchez wanna leave slam a huge prize tag on him £60 Million upwards that’s what teams do look at Lacazette, even Sterling, Stones, Suarez for examples. The profit can get us a better player James is there for taking, Lemar, Mbappe. Go all out for what you want. We sold all our players and survived with young players like Sczsceny, Gibbs, Clichy, Denilson, Bendtner, Cesc, Nasri, Arshavin, Fabianski, Eboue. Yes we need some clear outs like Debuchy, Jenks, Gibbs, Coq, Campbell e.t.c but one think I will love us to do is look into this injury issue that pops up every time, what could be the cause?
Finally we need just few additions Max of 3 a solid DM, CF and GK some times Cech fumbles. Perez is far better than Welbeck and Giroud that guy is clinical he just needs game time.
