OFFICIAL Arsenal XI for Leicester in EPL opener

It is on Arsenal fans, and before a ball has even been kicked in the new Premier League season the Gunners have been handed a little boost in our quest to win the EPl title for the first time in over a decade, as the German international Mesut Ozil has proved his fitness and will start tonight against Leicester City.

One person other than the Arsenal fans and Arsene Wenger who should be very pleased about that is our new striker Alexandre Lacazette, as it is going to be Ozil who is his main supply line and so hopefully this will help the Frenchman, who Arsene Wenger is starting as centre forward tonight, get off to a good start and help Arsenal to do the same.

There is more good news for Arsenal on the injury side of things as well, because Aaron Ramsey, Mustafi and even Francis Coquelin are fit enough to feature against the Foxes although all three will be on the subs bench to begin with.

We do seem to be a bit light on the defensive side though, with Koscielny injured and Mertesacker not in the squad, so Monreal will be the centre of the back three with Kolasinac one side and Holding the other.

      1. No, the left flank is the better of the two. There is nothing happening down the right, everything is going through the left. Now let’s get real here, yesterday everyone was saying Ozil is the best but can you honestly say that after seeing his performance today? He is practically non-existent. He can’t dribble, can’t drive the ball forward, can’t control the ball in tight spaces and miss place passes. I’ve said it before he is a top player but we don’t have the players to complement him and it would require a huge overhaul in order to suit his play. Right now he is just a luxury player.

        Bellerin will really need to improve his attacking play if he ever wants to play the Wing Back position because from what I’ve seen, the Ox is way ahead of him in attacking. Elneny lacks ability in the final third, something Ramsey does really well popping into the box but Elneny is way ahead of Ramsey in terms of positional play and getting the ball moving in the middle. So looking at our midfield we really need a ball playing central midfielder. Again this has been mentioned enough times in the forums, we can’t just rely on the long passing because we need that player to create chances and take on players in the middle.

        Finally can anyone of you imagine playing the rest of the season with this line-up without Sanchez? It will be a catastrophe because I can just see us struggling. Everybody has been slamming on Sanchez and believe we can do without him but just look at the sluggish lethargic play, no threat, no impetus, no urgency. He brings so much dimension and space to the game when he plays, so can we really be without him? Anyone doubt he carried our team last season just look at this game and you’ll see how important he is. Losing Ozil is a lot in shirt sales but losing Sanchez is losing a warrior on the field.

    3. Nothing wrong with this lineup. There are other lineup possibilities that might also be good.

      Considering the absence of Kos and Sanchez and apparently Mustafi and Mert are not fully ready….. there is no single obvious lineup for today’s game.

      Are we starting with the attacks already??

      1. How about elneny starting as a CB in place of monreal (vardy is going to enjoy monreal at d middle), then coquelin or Ramsey with xhaka and iwobi in place of ozil, ozil is a weak mentality in the team

      1. Holding Mert and Monreal, with Oxlade and Kolasinac on wings. Also I thought there could be a chance Wenger would put Oxlade CM or behind Lacazette.

        I don’t like when CB’s are new to one another, Monreal centre without the height and Kolasinac new to the team. If that’s the case I prefer my three.

  7. Unbelievable. Chamberlain as LWB again, we know he is not comfortable in that side because his stronger leg is right. Bellerin has been performing badly as RWB.

    Ozil cannot possess the ball longer than Iwobi when he is fit, let alone when he is unfit. Have they thrown Gibbs away already?

    1. In the Ox’s first game for Arsenal he started on the left wing against Man Utd and was the best player on the pitch! Surprisingly subbed by Wenger when he had their defence terrified.

    2. If you are uncomfortable with solid Arsenal players (Chamberlain, Ozil) then you might need to find another club.

  9. Wenger always blame a poor start to the season as the reason for falling behind, but I don’t see anything in this lineup to confirm a change this season! Don’t we have defenders?

  10. Problem is that we don’t have a fit enough CB to play in the back 3.We have two left backs playing as center backs. Hope we don’t concede first.
    Why didn’t we get a cb or why aren’t we playing chambers?

    1. We played Chambers in last years opener. Not hes fault but we conceded 4!

    1. Are you basing that off this one match? Of cause we will get back in the top 4. We will be in the top 4 this season. I don’t know why some of you guys put our rivals on such a high pedal stool. There is nothing in the opening game of the season that tells me we are predestined to finish behind Chelsea,City or United. Those teams haven’t even played yet.

  15. Tbh … No idea how this will play out … Both teams have pace up front and vulnerabilities at the back …but trust xhaka and ozil to exploit the gaps better than their midfield so … 3 1 to the arsenal

    1. Good point. I like Chambers more than Monreal in the middle. Monreal worst case on right as CD with Chambers in the middle and Holding on the right. But why put Mustafi on the bench if he is not ready?

  74. Bellerin needs to come off, Mustafi in the middle, Monreal to the left, Kolasinac to LWB, Ox to RWB. Elneny a squad player, need another CM with Xhaka desperately, Ramsey only other option sadly. Holding needs to work his way to the starting 11, shouldn’t be a guaranteed starter. CB needed. Match day 1 and we already given critics firepower to hit us with.

Holding said he wants to leave last January so wenger played him and now he’s re payed us with giving the ball away over and over again for the first goal and we obviously need a proper defense coz our only central CBs are koscielny n mertesacker so van dijk should of been our first target along side lacazette but wenger thinks monreal n kolansinac are CBs we would of won this game by a lot of goals if we could defend but being cheap won’t allow that

    First game of the season hence all eyes on us.
    A Friday night game.
    Playing at home,(the library).

    I would have preferred our first game away today.
    It’s just not an advantage for us anymore playing at the Emirates. Somehow we need to turn this stadium into the same atmosphere you get an Annfield! Ticket prices I blame die hard fans can’t afford it generally. Everytime I’ve been there it’s dead the atmosphere.
