Official teams and preview of Arsenal trip to Everton

This is a big game for Arsenal, with last season’s away game at Everton being one of those that Arsene Wenger, his players and the fans would like to put behind them as quickly as possible. But with an even more important game against Besiktas in the Champions League on Wednesday, it comes at an awkward time for us.

But the Gunners are determined to stay as loyal as possible to their football philosophy and to be fair, we have not really got the players to park the bus, so the boss has gone for a pretty attacking and creative line-up, with the big news being that Alexis Sanchez gets his chance to show what he can do in the centre forward role, with Olivier Giroud dropping to the bench.

Another surprise is that Calum Chambers keeps his place in the centre of defence, but even more surprising, to me anyway, is that Koscielny misses out with per Mertesacker coming in. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gets the reward for his impressive recent cameos with a starting role today, and Mesut Ozil returns to the number 10 role, unless the German plays on the wing with Jack Wilshere in the middle.

We have a pretty strong looking bench as well, which may be needed as Everton are able to name a full strength side apart from Ross Barkley, and are likely to cause us some real problems today. I would love a win, of course, but realistically would be more than happy with a share of the points.

      1. Wolfsburn? I heard some people talk about interest from juve. I think he would rather play for his club fc koln than wolfsburg.

          1. Plus they’re newly promoted and I don’t think the Pod really wants to be in a relegation battle this year.

    1. Surprised Özil is on the wing. But so glad Alexis is playing up front. He can be our Agüero. If it were up to me I’d take Wilshere off and rest him for Wednesday and play him in Ramsey’s position in that game. Put Özil in at No. 10 and Campbell on the left.

      Happy that we’re resting Koscielny before his injury gets serious, not 100% confident in our back four without him, but I’d rather miss him for one game so he can recover than miss him for 6 through injury..

    2. I hope that Wenger takes off Wilshere at half-time and uses Campbell on the right, Ox on the left and Ozil in the middle. The pace would be beautiful.

  6. Good team. Brave choices by Wenger.

    I’m pleased to see Flamini back into the fold. If he can control his temper – at least until the second half – I’m confident that we can go home with all points. A little worried about our back four, I don’t think we’ll keep a clean sheet, but we’ve got enough speed and creativity up top to do some damage.

  7. i wished he started campbell instead of wilshere, i hope there will be protection on the left for monreal. At least giroud is not starting so i am happy. 2-1, ramsey and sancez to score

    1. If jack plays LW the. There should be protection, he does like to tackle and such. Ozil not so much but hopefully we’ll see him in the middle more. Agree monreal needs some help sometimes so hopefully we’ll see that.

      1. I agree. Lukaku is probably going to be on the right so Campbell wouldn’t have worked.

  10. With Sanchez as striker, and Ozil and the OX on the wings, this has all the making of a furious end-to-end Saturday classic.

    1. It’s basically the same thing Wenger did with ramsey. Letting him play even tho he’s not the best option. Wenger hoping wilshere also steps up his game like Ramsey did after his rough patch.

      1. Yup he is sacrificing joel for wilshere. Hope it pays off. We know jack has the potential but is he worth it? Ramsey was so i guess time will tell.

  13. Atleast this game we have little more pace and no giroud to kill off the attacks. And hopefully ozil and sanchez could work together.

  14. Wenger should just get the finger out and buy a quality striker instead of messing about with the midfield. He is obsessed with the midfield we need a TOP class Striker every other top team has at least one.Arsenal will not win the premiership if he does not buy one.

  15. cant fault the frenchman n this….other than monreal this is probably our best possible team if all are playing to their abilities so it will be a really good test of where we really are….there will certainly be goals in this game…. 3 2 to us….here’s hoping

  16. Loved Wenger’s response to why Giroud wasn’t starting the match. He might as well have come out and said “Giroud is playing sh*t at the moment” such was his stuttering and stumbling on the matter lmao.

      1. Interviewer asked him about his choice up front and he dithered like a idiot trying to come up with an excuse for why Giroud wasn’t starting. He said “Giroud is just coming back” eventually. And finally agreed that Sanchez would be the striker when pressed for an answer. Not rocket science that he’d pick Sanchez over that towering bundle of gubbins. ’bout time too!!

    Dropping Giroud and Cazorla who have been terrible

    1. Monreal doesn’t venture forward as much as Gibbs. He might not be the best going forward but he’s solid defensively, hence why Wenger wants him to be a utility CB.

    1. Same here. As much as I love BFG back I still fear Lukaku on the break cutting onto his left foot in front of Monreal and BFG. Ozil and Wilshere will have to help out and track back today.

  59. Özil shouldn’t be on the wing. Not an attack on Mesut but it’s a waste of his talents. He isn’t known for his pressing or tracking back so he shouldn’t be on the wing. Id take off Wilshere, bring on Campbell and move Özil into the middle.

  68. So far it’s a lot of over complicating things, taking too long, these little Wilshere flicks that go nowhere, and trying to walk it in.

    Also, Flamini has been anonymous. We need a real DM and we also need to put Ozil in the middle where he belongs, not stuck out wide.

  73. I always get a certain feeling before a match away at. Big team and whenever I get e feeling we loose or get thrashed, we are pushovers to decent teams we really are, hopeless.

  98. SANCHEZ is a class above all of our donkey midfielders… He is the striker but pressing and tracking back..

    He keeps asking for our players to press like he is but they are just jogging, I can see him getting p*ssed off.. Without the ball we are not pressing as a team.
