Official teams and preview of Monaco v Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has made a few changes to the Arsenal starting line-up that blew West Ham away at the weekend but none of them is much of a surprise. What is a surprise is our under fire German centre back Per Mertesacker keeping his place despite the Brazilian Gabriel having come back early from injury and travelling with the squad to Monaco. Bellerin comes in for Chambers at right back.

The other two changes are Santi Cazorla coming in for Aaron Ramsey, a move clearly designed to give the Gunners as much attacking potential as possible, and Danny Welbeck replaces Theo Walcott on one side of Olivier Giroud with Alexis on the other.

It is a strong Arsenal side but we will have to be at our best to overcome a two goal deficit against a side that does not seem to concede goals. They have the likes of Moputinho, Toulalan and Kondogbia in from the start, with Berbatov up front and so it truly would be a miracle if Arsenal managed to make it into the next round.

Ospina
Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal
Coquelin, Cazorla
Welbeck, Ozil, Sanchez
Giroud

Subs: Szczesny, Gibbs, Gabriel, Chambers, Ramsey, Flamini, Walcott

COYG give it a good go and you never know!

      1. These lads need to learn how to shoot from outside, surprise their keeper with some shots!!!

    1. Come on giroud, score one more.we need you to score another. One more goal and we will see Monaco loosing focus completely. They will lose everything bif we score one more.a goal before the 65th minute and we are right in it.

  1. surprised no Apkom on the bench, it looks a bit defensive if the game is there for the taking with 15 to go….

Again shame welbeck is in for walcott…walcott offers so much more in an attacking sense proved by his goals compared to welbecks… we need to score 3!

    1. Noticed too. Only one attacking option on the bench. Guess we’ve played all our cards early. Hope it pays off. COYG!!!

  2. Every year there will be Champions League winner. The current European Champions. But they will tickle down and filter through timeless history and only the club and fans of that club that wins it will remember the glorious night.
But tonight we, Arsenal Football Club have a chance of immortalizing ourselves in the fabrics of European nights and will be the reference for clubs that face similar situation to ours. No club has turned over a 3-1 loss at home since the UEFA Champions Leagues inception in 1992. No one is saying it will be easy. All odds are stacked against us. Home form, goals conceded, away ground. But tonight we either immortalize ourselves or go down in the gutters. If this is not motivation enough I don’t know what will be. Only Ajax has turned over a 3-1 deficit in European Cup. That team had Johan Cruyff. Is there a Cruyff out there on the pitch tonight? I am very pumped as should the players be. Go get those fcukers. Come on you Arsenal.

    1. No team has turned over a 3-1 loss at home since the UCL inception in 1992. This is true!

There is a team however turning a 3-0 loss at home in 2003. Yes. I am sure of it.

  3. Why on Earth is Welbeck picked again? Him playing on the wing is the main reason we’re in this situation in the first place! Welbeck cannot play on the wing or the whole balance of the team is disrupted.

Walcott is the obvious choice. He’s a player that can accelerate and make space in tight situations, where teams sit back – just look at the game at the weekend, he made several chances through it. He didn’t score, but Walcott is the type of player that will make 6 or 7 chances, but only score 1 or 2 of them. Most players are more clinical, but only make 1 or 2 chances.. As for Welbeck… A very hard worker, but not a clinical finisher.

  4. I think choosing Ospina and Bellerin shows we are going all out. I know people talk about Walcott not being defensive as to why he is being left out. I’m not sure there isn’t more to it.

  5. We will beat Monaco but not sure whether it will be enough. Common Alexis score and create.

  6. Mertesacker?.. Oh dear!
    Where’s the gamble ?
I would have went for a 3-5-2 formation.
Plus Walcott and Ramsey starting instead of
    Welbeck and Giroud.

    Walcott and Sanchez upfront
    Ozil, Cazorla, Bellerin (RW),
    Coquelin (DM) Ramsey (B2B)
    Monreal, Koscielny, Gabriel
    Ospina

laugh all you like… it’s works on fifa manager mode 😉

    GOD HELP US TONIGHT!
    WERE GONNA NEED IT

    1. Because they care to support their club and not like us who were more busy in boiing ex spurs and MU player aka Berba

  7. Just look at where Welbeck is playing, right in the centre of the pitch. Get out wide for God’s sake!

  8. After what they did with their fast counter attacks I don’t understand why mert is in the line up. And have i missed something why is Ramsey not playing?

  9. 2nd half if we losing
    Theo for Welbeck
    Ramsey for Coq
    Rosiky for Mert

    352

Just do something out of ordinary and at least we tried

  10. Why da hell are they moving the ball so slowly!! there is no surprise on the attack!!! C’mon you gunners!!!!

  11. why are our players esp.. sanchez slipping soo much? in the man u game sanchez also had some slipperyslips wth

  12. All I’m looking for tonight is a good performance to maintain our PL confidence and hopefully a win.
Do I expect us to score 3? no.

    Kondogbia still looks great…….

  13. @juhislihis. Highly unlikely we wont, did anyone think we really would?
Monaco are strong physically and superb defensively.

In the 2nd half well push on and they hit us on the counter again, 1-0 or 1-1 I feel it will end.
    Hope I’m wrong, COYG!!!!

  14. Sanchez has got to stop cutting inside every time he gets the ball… Everyone knows what he is going to do..

  15. what a ball from welbeck, Giroud hit almost too well!
Great finish to the first half, apart from getting the second.

  16. Honestly, does Welbeck know the basics of ball control? Its almost like he’s trying to catch-up with his own long balls.

  17. wenger looks pissed
    GOOD!!

arsene the subs u make an the tactics u show in second half could define ur season-
    GET EM LE PROF!!

  18. The first fifteen minutes Monaco toyed with us. But since the goal there is a glimmer of hope. Flood gates are but yet to open.

  19. Welbeck playing well so is giroud keep the same team untill last 10 mins then bring theo on for le coq
I beleive in this team and so do they
    COYG

  20. Up 1-0 at half time, could EASILY be 3 or 4-0. Koscielny’s flick, Sanchez’s “dive”, Welbeck’s shot, Giroud with another chance at the end. We’re creating plenty of chances, just need 2 more to go in. On the other side, we’ve played solidly defensively. Only given up a few half chances. I’ve got a lot of optimism going into the second half. I can’t see Monaco keeping us from a 2nd goal. The only questions left are whether or not we score a third, and whether or not Monaco pull 1 back.

  21. If welbecks shot went in it was game on hopefully a goal early second half Monaco will be panicking !!!!!

  22. wow really impressed with OG, this could be his the best game, cmon ARSENAL, we are better by miles!!!

  23. Just play the same game in the second half and we have can do this. Making plenty of chances. I can see Giroud get another if not a hat-trick!

  24. In these kind of games you need to finish even the half chances but we need 10 chances to score one goal as we have missing machine aka giroud and a MU reject Welbeck spearheading our attack.

    1. Missing machine Giroud? Really? Do you actually understand football?

Do you know how many chances strikers miss? Do you know Giroud has excellent stats for shooting?

I suggest some go back to FIFA and don’t let the truth get in the way of their subjective ‘analysis’..

      1. Did we go through? I know football than you could ever imagine and that is why I am realistic and not like you who thinks giroud is some kind of top class forward. Tell me one simple thing which other top club will take the service of Giroud? Answer, NONE.

Anyways let us all live under the cloud once again and bash people who wants arsenal to seen like a real big club and not some B level club. We are arsenal and I have full right to question our clubs ambition which fans like you will never question

  25. We need to score right away! Doesn’t even matter if we concede one, even extra time would be enough!

  26. Sorry but Sanchez has got improve lots. His passing and link up is so poor.. He breaks our attacks down.. He gets in good position. So frustrating.

    1. pleas Hafiz your negativity is the last thing any gooner needs today. For once can people on this site be positive together?
