Opinion – Five possible reasons why Arsenal have not yet fired Unai Emery

There are multiple reasons why Arsenal are not keen on sacking Unai Emery.

Unai Emery is under serious pressure following a season of poor performances. However, the fans may be disappointed if they are hoping that the board will fire the Spaniard any time soon.

Emery’s first season in charge ended badly with humiliation in the Europa League and an end of season collapse in the league. This resulted in the club missing out on Champions League football once again.

Sadly, Arsenal have not improved on last seasons’ performances and the team seems to be back where they were before Emery was named the new manager.

They haven’t won any of their last five league games and are now six points adrift of the top-four. That could easily be stretched to nine points if they lose to Leicester City on Saturday.

The logical thing for the board to do now seems to be replacing Emery. But there are five good reasons why they are hesitant to do so.

Five possible reasons Emery is still Arsenal manager

Detracts attention from the board

This may seem a little out there but we all remember the stick the board was getting in the summer and before. Not so much now and they are the ones that employed the 43-year-old.

Want stability

The last thing the board will want is for the club to become like Chelsea, firing managers almost every year. Even if that is at the cost of trophies.

They still have faith in Emery

No one wants to admit they got it wrong, seems to me there is a pride issue here with the board.

They appreciate his youth policy

The Spaniard has bloodied a few youngsters this season and in time that may prove to be a masterstroke.

Board do not want to give into fan power

Let’s be honest, the fans forced the club to let Arsene Wenger go, they do not want to repeat such a capitulation once again.

Conclusion

The reasons may seem fickle but what other reason can you think of that is keeping Emery at the helm?
