Thomas Partey admits that he’s not in the best form at present, but believes his Arsenal side couldn’t have done much more to try an win away at Manchester United.
The Gunners were unlucky not to win the opening half, being pegged back in the dying minutes of the first 45 by Bruno Fernandes, before eventually losing by a 3-2 scoreline.
The result was a little touch to take after the way the match played out, with us actually leading the match for longer than we were behind, and Partey insists that we were just unlucky.
‘I think the team came out to win, we did everything we could, we played well, we created a lot of chances and I think that we were unlucky,’ Partey told Arsenal Media (via the Metro).
‘They scored two goals and then a penalty. The team tried to improve, go forward and look for a goal, for the equaliser, but in the end it’s football, we have to forget about this game, we have to think of our next game, we have to do better and also to win.
‘The team is improving, each and everyone is doing our best.
‘For me, I have to keep on doing my best, keep trying, keep improving, try to come back to my best, because the team needs me, the team needs us.
‘I think we’re improving each day and it’s gonna be good. If we want to be at the top it’s normal that we have to fight, we have to be under control and try to win the games.’
It certainly wasn’t a flawless performance, and there is no complaint about the penalty decision which turned out to be the winning goal, but our ease in giving up possession feels like it cost us in the end, and Partey is one of those who was at fault in that aspect.
I’m not sure why Elneny was even named in the team to make his first start of the season, with both Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles having put in top performances in their last starts for the team, but hindsight is always a wonderful thing.
