Predicted Arsenal line up to face Standard Liege in Europa League

Wholesale changes expected for Europa League clash at Standard Liege.

Finally, Arsenal got a win and confidence must be high that the lads can make it two on the trot with another away win, this time against Belgium outfit Standard Liege in the final Europa League group game.

Mathematically Arsenal can still be knocked out but would need an outrageous score and so realistically Freddie Ljungberg can take some chances with the youngsters and fringe players this evening.

My problem with that is the risk of defeat and the halting of momentum, I am convinced we need to win to give us any chance against Man City on Sunday. Much about this Arsenal team is about confidence. It is a huge advantage to go into Sunday’s game with two consecutive wins.

Martinez will be in goal, that is a given and injuries will determine the sort of defence Freddie goes with.

Kolasinac will be on the left, there is no one else to go there and I fully expect that Maitland-Niles will start on the right side even if Bellerin is passed fit. The Spaniard will be saved for the City game.

In the centre of defence, David Luiz is almost certain to start and we may see a return for action for Mavropanos. If he can, I would expect that Ljungberg would want to rest both Chambers and Sokratis.

Midfield should see the return of Gunedouzi and Willock and possibly Emile Rowe Smith. Upfront I expect a trio of Nelson, Saka and Lacazette.

So, this is my predicted lineup

Martinez
Kolaasinac
Luiz
Mavropanos
Maitland-Niles
Willock
Guendouzi
Rowe Smith
Nelson
Lacazette
Saka

It should be noted that no travelling squad has been announced but Zech Medley, Robbie Burton, Folarin Balogun, Trae Coyle and Tyreece John-Jules all trained with the first-team squad and any of those could be drafted in as well.

Let me know if you believe this will be close to what Freddie selects.

  1. I don’t think Kolasinac or Mavropanos will play. Not sure who will play LB though. Reckon Chambers will play CB. Other than that, spot on.

  2. Read somewhere that Saka is injured aswell !…………….not only are we piss poor, but we are reverting back to the old Arsenal of having the leagues best sick room !
