Pundit slams another poor Arsenal defensive performance

Jermaine Jenas criticises Unai Emery for Arsenal’s poor defensive display.

Arsenal’s defence was poor yet again as they were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City yesterday evening. That was the fifth consecutive time Arsenal has failed to win a game and it wasn’t hard for Jermaine Jenas to point out the part of the team that is causing them trouble.

Unai Emery changed his team’s formation yet again and the struggle to adapt among his defenders was obvious to see.
This latest result has intensified calls for Emery to be sacked and Jenas believes the team would have fared better in that game had it not been for their defending.

“It’s not looking good,” he said.

“It was the first time they went back to a back three in the Premier League this year, and you could tell.

“They had no plan, they had a complete lack of direction in the way they played with and without the ball.

”You’ve seen many centre-backs when they’re playing in a back there drop into positions where they’re in midfield. But when you do that and you’ve not worked on it, you can’t give the ball away like that.”

Arsenal also had problems in other departments as they struggled to create any meaningful chance of their own.
With Guendozi, Torreira and Ozil in midfield, the team still could not create as many chances as their opponents. This meant the duo of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang were left with almost no service up top.

Arsenal looked like a team that lacked confidence. Leicester on the other hand, who now have nine points more than Arsenal were full of it.

Unless there is a change, either in management or in tactics, it simply is not going to get better.
