Darren Bent has claimed that he would prefer Arsenal to sign Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku over Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus this summer.
The Gunners appear to be closing in on the Brazilian’s signature at present, with reports claiming that we have now agreed a £45 Million fee with the Citizens, but talking to TalkSPORT, Bent has claimed that his preference would be the Belgian star.
When asked who he’d sign if he was in charge of Arsenal’s transfers this summer, he said (via the Metro): ‘I’d take Lukaku on loan, 100%. I’d be over the moon.
‘I look at Lukaku and I think he wants to go somewhere where he’s going to feel most loved, and at Inter Milan he was fantastic.
‘He scored a lot of goals and felt the passion from the Inter fans.
‘The fact that he’s clamoring to get back there and taking a 25 per cent pay cut, it almost looks like he can’t get out of this country quick enough.’
When asked if he would prefer him to Gabriel Jesus, Bent replied: ‘Lukaku, I would.
‘I’ve seen him score goals regularly. He’s in the 100 club!’
The issue with Lukaku is he seems to need the team build around him to get the best out of him, and like at Chelsea, we seem more interested in building a team where the goals are shared out.
I don’t actually think he was terrible for Chelsea this season, scoring some key goals before suffering an injury, and he struggled to break back into Thomas Tuchel’s side, who operate better without a striker it seems.
We do need another alternative forward also this summer, but I struggle to believe that we would be able to land him regardless, so I don’t feel the need to give this one too much thought in fairness.

Lukaku is good where he is right now and I don’t really care which team but not Arsenal..
EPL caught out Lukaku….don’t score in big games….don’t want him at Arsenal
I’d rather have jesus than lukaku. Jesus can play well when he’s not scoring and contribute in other ways, lukaku just can’t, and he’s not that great of a goalscorer to make that sacrifice worthwhile.
I think people get carried away by the idea of lukaku – a giant who can hold off defenders with ease and score all kinds of goals just seems unstoppable, but footballing talent is the key, and he’s just not quite good enough to make his physical advantages count to the level people expect

SO Bent would prefer us to get “idle, stand about and sulk Lukaku”, over “all action, constantly moving and busting a gut Jesus”.
