Arsenal are usually at the centre of much of the speculation year on year, but this summer there are many reasons to be keeping an eye on our club’s goings on.
We look likely to lose Alexis Sanchez in the coming months, with Bayern Munich looking on the verge of his signature, and we also have huge question marks on the futures of Arsene Wenger, Mesut Ozil, and even smaller question marks on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin.
The French manager has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996, through 21 years of football and three Premier League titles, but has come under increased pressure from fans to end his reign this summer, when his current contract ends.
The manager has spoken about his future today, and whilst he is claiming not to tell us the answer to the big question, he may well have told us his intentions.
Sir Alex Ferguson came to the defence of Wenger this week, and whilst talking of the Scotsman with Arsene, he claimed he ‘doesn’t think’ he will match his 26 year spell spent at Man United.
Wenger said: “We had some rivalries in the past, but his comments are welcome because he knows the difficulties of the job.
“I don’t think I will match him on that front. But he did extremely well in what he did, and 26 years at the same place is absolutely exceptional.
“The average life expectancy of a manager is 18 months, so our situation is quite unusual. But I cannot answer on doing 22 or 23 years.”
The bottom comment is talking about one or two more years, which looks ever more likely…
