Shold Arsenal send Calum Chambers out on loan?

Why This Loan Deal Can Be Beneficial For Arsenal! by AT

According to reports from the Sun, the Arsenal youngster Calum Chambers is set to join Southampton on a six-month loan deal once the transfer window opens in January. With the Saints having a disappointing campaign so far, it is understood that Ronald Koeman has identified the former Southampton star as an option to fix his leaky defence.

On joining Arsenal for £16million in 2014, the Englishman was perceived by many as the future of the Gunners defence. But despite a bright start to his Arsenal career, he has struggled with form for quite some time now and rarely makes it to Arsene Wenger’s match day squad. So should Arsenal loan him back to Southampton?

In my opinion, that would be ideal, for both club and player. As a result of his poor form and lack of first-team opportunities, Calum has really struggled for confidence, so a stint back at St. Mary’s can really help him out in that regard as he is likely to see a lot more first-team opportunities. Being a graduate of the Southampton academy, he won’t really need time to settle in, which means he can get right into the action.

In addition, it will be a plus point for Arsenal to welcome him back with a handful of Premier League games under his belt. It is pretty obvious to see that the 20-year-old still needs some experience in England’s top flight. Should Arsenal face an injury crisis in defence, we will always have the option of recalling him to the squad, like we did with Coquelin.

Now although there are some Gooners who think he can be deployed in central midfield, I would rather have Koscielny play there with Gabriel coming in to partner Mertesacker at the back. With that being said, I really hope Calum can complete his loan move to the South Coast and come back to the Arsenal squad brimming with confidence.
