Should Arsenal consider player swap with Man United?

Manchester United are claimed to be eyeing a move for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil this month, but only if they can offload Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the mean time.

The Gunners have been bracing themselves for offers for key duo Alexis Sanchez and Ozil this month, with both having entered the final six months of their contracts, and it will certainly be a long month of stress unless we see some valuable signings coming into the club.

It seems almost inevitable that we will part ways with the Chilean, who is supposedly set on a move to Manchester City, but there has been reports circling to claim that the possibility still remains that we could persuade Ozil to stay.

If no contract is agreed with the German, he will leave the club for free come the end of the season, and Manchester United are strongly linked as his potential next club, but we would most certainly prefer to see him pen a new deal.

The Red Devils are now supposedly eyeing a move to sign him now instead of waiting until the end of the term, but European expert Gabriele Marcotti claims they will need to offload a squad member before making their moving.

“Mesut Ozil, a slightly different situation (to Sanchez),” Marcotti said.

“The club say that, or Wenger anyway has said that he is pretty confident that Ozil’s going to extend his deal.

“But of course he’s been saying that for, what, the last 18 months now.

“He’s been linked again to Manchester United.

“I think United would have to shift somebody, most likely Mkhitaryan, to make that happen realistically.”

Can Arsenal afford to risk losing Ozil for free at the end of the season, or should they offer United a player-swap deal including Mkhitaryan?
