I love the idea of Unai Emery taking a new broom to Arsenal and shaking up our underperforming bunch of overpaid Prima-Donnas, and that should include shipping out quite a few of the worst offenders.
One that has never excelled for me is the Englishman Danny Welbeck. He may be off to the World Cup, but he has hardly set the Emirates alight in his four years at the club. He has averaged just 28 games in all competitions, and his scoring average is just 7 per season, which is hardly inspiring for a striker!
As usual he has had a few good performances towards the end of the season, which is why Southgate is taking him to Russia, but in my view this would be the perfect time to cash in on the ex-Man United reject, especially if he performs well at the World Cup. There are already rumours that the Turkish giants Besiktas are interested but I am sure there will be many more offers if he is put on the market…
And do we even need him? We have a much more accomplished striker/winger in Lucas Perez, who came with a big reputation two years ago but was left out in the cold by Wenger despite playing well when given his chances. Perez went back on loan to Deportivo and despite his hometown club getting relegated he still scored nine goals and eight assists for them, and also had the second highest chances created behind only Lionel Messi for the La Liga season.
I really hope that the Spaniard plays well for Emery in pre-season and is given a chance to prove his worth to Arsenal consistently. Surely he would be much more effective than Welbeck??
