Should Arsenal sell ‘not interested’ star to Chelsea for £60million?

When you looked at the Arsenal team that went 20 games unbeaten in the first half of the season, you would have thought we had every chance of winning the Premier League title, but since January this exact same team has dropped tamely out of the Top Four and look a shadow of their former selves.

Many people think that this radical decline is down to the contract uncertainties of players like Ozil and Alexis, with their massive wage demands not being accepted by the Gunners’ heirarchy, which has led to talks being postponed until the summer. The ex-Gunner Charlie Nicholas thinks that Sanchez is being unreasonable and holding the club to ransom. ‘When I played you probably got told a month before [your existing contract was due to expire} you were getting a new contract,’ Nicholas was quoted as saying.

‘You had to work and earn that right and if you got a new contract without winning things you thought, “well, this is a result”.

‘These people [at Arsenal now] don’t even get close to winning the title. You are talking about jumping from £120,000-a-week to £200,000-a-week for Sanchez. Sell him!

‘He has not been interested in the game for the last eight weeks. He is camouflaging it.

‘I would sell him. Get him out. If he wants to go to Chelsea and Chelsea want to pay £60million, I would sell him to Chelsea.’

I would probably agree if he was talking about Mesut Ozil, who certainly seems to go missing from time to time, but could we really say that Alexis is “not interested”? And even if he was, would you agree to sell him to Chelsea?
