Should Arsenal sign Mkhitaryan or Leicester City’s Mahrez?

Arsenal are linked with moves to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund and Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, but it appears (to me) that there would not be room for both in our squad.

We already have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi impressing in behind the striker, as well as Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell all hoping to stake a claim for a first-team role also.

Arsene Wenger has been quick to act in the transfer market so far this window, having brought in Granit Xhaka, and having entered into talks with Jamie Vardy about his potential capture. The Frenchman appears to be continuing that, and is now claimed to have entered into talks with Mahrez also.

The Algerian star was the PFA Player of the Year this season, and is believed to have decided on leaving the club, which has prompted us to make our supposed move.

Another player who plays in a similar role is Mkhitaryan, who has also enjoyed a hugely impressive 12 months, albeit in Germany instead. The Armenian all-time goalscorer scored 23 goals in all competitions, while assisting another 30, and is also believed to have decided on leaving his respective club.

The BVB are now claimed to have given up hope of tying him down to a new contract, and have now put the star up for sale in the current window.

Two of Real Madrid’s attacking midfielders in James Rodriguez and Alarcan Isco are also possibilities to become available in the close-season, with the pair having fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu. Lucas Vazquez emergence this term has demoted the pair to the bench, and either would be a huge coup this summer also.

Who would you most like to see grace our famous Red next season?

  1. Mhkitaryan was the best player in Germany
    Mahrez best in England
Both are cheaper than the others

    Mahrez=younger,premiership addapted, match winner

    1. Mahrez is also still a one season wonder until proven otherwise. Mkhitaryan has shown in the Bundesliga and Ukraine that he can score and assist.

I mean Mahrez is great, make no mistake, I would be over the moon if we signed him. But Mkhitaryan scored and gave:
      23 goals
      32 assists

in 52 appearances last term. That stat is ASTONISHING.

  2. The man from Borussia. Iv been looking up some Dortmund stuff since ever the AFC Aubameyang rumours, and then this rumour I did the same, also the time of Reus. Seriously, this guy along with Aubameyang are a bit special. They stand out allot, last season in particular, and have a great understanding. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pep also try for this guy. I’m not sure exactly how Pep sees the game, or how he chooses his targets. But if I was able to get Aubameyang, I would bring this guy along with him. Maybe they are aiming higher, or are happy with wing so are targeting other positions.

Really, really hoping this is true, that we’re the front-runners. I think his signing would be a big statement, beating other big clubs to his signature. I like how he played mainly out at wide right for the majority of last season, which happened to be his best season ever. I think we need him, sure, other priorities and all, but these opportunities don’t come round too often. We had great timing with our Ozil and Alexis signings, this could be a similar case. With him said to be keen on a stay in the Capital, after chelsea finishing in tenth position, if true would be wonderful.

    1. Pep would have to play both Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang out wide to make space for Agüero and De Bruyne. What a beast attacking quartet that would be tho… Wouldn’t surprise me if they splashed out enough to get Pogba either, and then we’ll be talking a CL winner w/o a doubt

  3. Why not both and ship Walcott and Ramsey LOL! Seriously though we need to strengthen the wings, besides Alexis Campbell is the only other that has performed there and he gets benched a lot. Both these guys can slot in on the wings and would probably interchange brilliantly with Alexis.

Heard Xhaka was Arteta’s replacement and Mhkitaryan is suppose to be Rosicky’s. With the club also looking for another ball winning midfielder (yes the midfield is stacked) to replace Flamini and a left footed CB who can fill in at LB if needed.

  4. dont think it makes one bit of a difference in wichever of them we sign . we need a world class striker , aub is city bound , and low and behold , vardy is keeping us dangling . we dont seem to have any drawing power anymore , what has gone wrong .i say get the top class striker first , then add your wide man , the one who would fit in better with this top class striker that we have been promised for years .

  5. Heard a lot about Gibbs leaving especially with the Rodriguez rumor but what about Debuchy? Surely he won’t be with us next season? That would mean Bellerin stands alone and don’t even think of putting Chambers there again…

  6. with all the constant transfer rumours doing the rounds, I decided to quit mapping out the net for new developments and went on YouTube to watch some bergkamp videos, and boy it did left me in tears(joy)

  7. Just heard true Geordie say on YouTube from his source that Wenger is splashing the cash to soften the blow for

    Özil leaving!

    1. If Özil leaves it would literally destroy my hopes for next season. If you think the banners were small fries last season just imagine next season for Wenger if they sold Özil. Imagine top players across the board seeing this and would get turned off by Arsenal…

  8. We will get neither…..all smoke and mirrors as usual with Arsenal. We also need a striker….very much doubt Vardy is coming.

  9. Mikki for me is good, but if we can’t get him Mahrez will do but I m a fan of Isco above all of them.

  10. Eveninng guys (from this side of the gooners world). Just back from work and it’s so much fun to rejoin you guys. Me thinks (from le-prof’s pespective ) there is only one position to worry about after the quick acqusition of Xhaka. He wants a ‘double’ 007 to partner Giroud. He is not gonna betray Giroud and neither is he gonna sell or make him his mascott. So, with Danny out the most probable short term quick fix is Vardy. The broblem is, I dont think Vardy is finished yet. I think he has got an ace in his pack. Yah, Meatkaryan is good, Zlatan is some what larger than life but I think Vardy can rock your world!

  11. even though he is down the pecking order at REAL,his president has just recently stated that rodriguez was not for sale as he is a big fan of his and sees him as a player for the near future!!concerning the question i would prefer to see MKHITARYAN ,he knows where the net is but he also contributes to a lot of goals, his number of assists is pretty good i would even say impressive!!

    1. Putting injuries aside I don’t think but, it’s ‘real like Madrid’ that Jack Wilshere is far much better than that ‘R…..’ thng!

  12. wow! now this has been one that has kept me confused since the rumour started 3 or 4days ago.
We need a Right winger; Mkhitaryan is naturally a CAM like Cazorla or Rosicky that can play on the wings.
him being a natural ‘middle player’ means he cuts inside d midfield very often n does that way more than he stretches defense to the right.
doing this at Arsenal ll make our midfield more congested although he is very creative.
when he joined Bundesliga he ddnt adjust immediately it took him upward of a season b4 he could get back to his best, considering the way the EPL is n how more difficult and unfriendly it ll be next term and him being 27 alrdy it won’t be the best idea to get him.
    ..
Mahrez on the other hand is a natural Rightwinger that sticks to d wing and cuts into the 18yard box and not into d midfield.
he is also a better dribbler with more flair and average more goals last season.
he is also EPL proven and ll be a slot into d team with no need of wasting time adjusting.
things as little as ‘player adjusting to league time’ or ‘adjusting to style of play time’ could be the edge that will determines who wins the league between the top dogs.
He is also just 25.!! the only down side is the AFCON that ll hold in January so Mahrez ll have to go then but we have good backup options.
    .
so Mahrez does it for me. although I would gladly take any of both if given.
