Should Aubameyang be Arsenal’s centre-forward rather than Lacazette?

Most Arsenal fans are quite happy that Alexandre Lacazette has been promoted to be our usual first choice centre forward, but even though he has not looked so brilliant to us, the Arsenal fans, to the outside world he actually won Player Of the Month in the Premier League in October after 5 goals in 5 games. This is our first winner of that prize for 3 years, but he is still not our first choice centre-forward despite scoring 10 goals already this season!

He obviously prefers to scoring more goals in the middle. As he said ahead of the big North London Derby: “It’s good when you are coming to work and you have great examples, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp,” he said.

“It’s great to try to follow that. We try to follow in their footsteps. It’s not pressure, but you have to be good so you work for that.

“I prefer to play as a striker, but I’m a guy who wants to work for the team as well. If they need me on the wing, I will play on the wing, of course.

“But I prefer to play up front.”

He obviously wants to score like Henry, and he probably would if he was left in the centre. Everyone seems to concentrate on the goals he misses, but everyone missrs sometimes, even Henry did!

This in no means a criticism of Lacazette, who has also scored 6 goals for us and looks like a very hard worker for the team. He is also a great goal-poacher but would he be better out on the wing with Aubameyang in the centre?

Tomorrow it looks like Auba will play against Spurs because Lacazette is injured, and maybe he will prove he deserves his place…

    1. Both Laca & Auba starting means Spurs will give us a flogging
The matches we combined them has produced our poorest and creativity-dead matches
Why are pple still clamoring for both of them starting?
Don’t care how Unai arranges the team – Just make sure Iwobi is on the left-side
Line-up anyone, anyhow, anyway, anywhere around him – we’ll be better than Spurs
He’s the team’s brain for now
The brain that does ‘evil’ and ‘good’ for us
But he’s the only source of ‘good’ from the team presently
Without him our total gameplay goes stupendously flat

  1. I am not sure why both of them cannot play together in 4-4-2. They will certainly rip opponents apart easily. Why the need to create the agony?

The derby is a game we can’t lose and looking at our recent defending, the best way perhaps is to attack.

    1. I think you need proper wingers to perfectly execute the 442 formation and that’s something we don’t have at the moment

      1. Agreed. We don’t have a proper one since Overmars and it’s a shame that we never had any proper wingers.

We are always having the make shift crap previously from AW.

  2. As you stated Aubameyang has missed a lot of chances and Lacazette works hard for the team and brings other players into play. It is interesting to note that Arsenal’s best attacking performance was against Fulham, where Welbeck, Iwobi and Lacazette worked their socks off in the first half (1-1 at half time) for Aubameyang to come on in the second half and Arsenal to win 5-1.

  3. Only one should play
    They can’t play together
If Giroud was here, he could play upfront with either player, but lacazette and aubameyang can’t play together. They are the same type of players
    I would start with Lacazette
Then sub him in the second half of needed

  4. Aubayamang doesn’t have the footwork and technics needed to brings others players involved like Lacazette….

Aubayamang strength is running to meet through ball…
How I wish he has that skills and technics of Henry to compliment his rapid speed

    1. Two thoughts. I doubt anyone on here, even the most determined pedant, minds about your spelling in the least. And secondly, IF YOU care, as it appears you do, then why not learn to spell by studying English and how to use our language and then bin the technology which you use to take the place of your brain! I suggest this as someone who is not a pedant but who cares for the proper use of our rich language. Your call though, obviously!

  5. How about this team….
    …………………….leno…………………….
    …….mustafi…. Sok…… Holding……

    Bell……….. Torre…. Xakai…. Kolas….
    …………………..ozil…………………..
    …………auba………. Lacazette…

    1. @Jah son
You just had to ask didn’t you? Well for starters, Iwobi is the only forward player we have capable of beating his marker with the ball. We need that quality against spurs. Their fullbacks love to bomb forward and help the attack and we need someone like Iwobi in those pockets of space they leave behind.

      1. Th14, you are making a lot of sense…..
Ozil is just a luxury player
he doesn’t have much to offer, except passes…
He is not incredible David Silva, Coutinho, Debruyne nor Isco, even Modric and Bernardo Silva…

This guys all have much qualities to offer
        When you talk about
        Ability to beat a man
        penetration.
        Agility and Tenacity…
        Mobility
        Creativity…
Another thing which is very very important, most especially to a great coach like Pep is,
Ability to keep the ball even under intense pressure from the opponents….

Ozil looses the ball easily and won’t even put up a fight to get the ball back…
Only Wenger would tolerate such nonsense,
        Emery won’t take it

All this things are the reasons why Big Clubs dont crave to have Ozil in their team unlike ALEXIS SANCHEZ

  6. He gives us penetration and mobility,…
    Whereas your God, Ozil doesn’t…

This is the reason why Emery doesn’t see anything special in Ozil and Ramsey….

Ozil is lucky to have signed that 350k contract before Emery came in….
if Emery had been around before January, your God Ozil would have been freed or sold

  7. Is good playing both of them to our usual formation 4231, am confident with that formation we can beat the spur and continue our unbeaten streak.
    Up gunners

  9. Let us call it as it clearly is. Auba is a goalscorer and nothing much more. When he fails to score – and it is a TEAM game remember – he contributes little else. Laca is an all round line leader and works hard , is creative and ALSO scores goals. IF it has to be one or the other- which I DON’T believe it has to be- then Laca is the better player.
