Should Cesc Fabregas replace contract-rebel Ramsey in the Arsenal midfield?

It seems increasingly likely that Aaron Ramsey will be the latest star name to run down his contract. Meanwhile Cesc Fabregas is in the same situation at Chelsea, so we are not the only club who don’t tie down their players to long term deals.

The irony of suggesting should we consider replacing the Welshmen with the Spaniard is Rambo was meant to be the future of our midfield when our ex captain left for Barcelona. I understand Gooners might see signing an ex player has a backwards step, especially now he’s in his thirties.

I of course would like nothing more then us to target one of the best midfielders in the world ….. Then I remember who our owner is. Finishing 6th didn’t stop Stan Kroenke from handing out only 50 million in the piggy bank. If a gap so big between us and Man City can’t make the American show ambition, don’t assume he’s going to care if someone leaves on a free. So if our scouting team are going to have to recruit a bargain anyway, you could do worse then an experienced playmaker who knows the Leauge when you don’t have to pay a fee. He wouldn’t start every week but his presence could help the youngsters at the club.

While his popularity has been hurt by playing for one of our rivals, it’s worth remembering his preference when returning to England was to come back to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger’s refusal to activate a buy back clause another sign that the Frenchmen had too much faith in the midfield he had.

So if we are looking for value, would you take Cesc back on a free?
