Spurs v Arsenal review – Damaging Derby Defeat

With no Alexis Sanchez available for Arsenal in the latest episode of the north London derby, Arsene Wenger made just one change to the side that put five past Aston Villa without reply last week. So Theo Walcott dropped to the bench with Danny Welbeck taking his place on the right of attack.

The opening minutes were a bit cagey, with the Gunners content to sit back and keep a good shape and Spurs knocking the ball around without any penetration. But after Arsenal broke down the left and nearly found Giroud in the middle, the home side broke themselves and Kane brought a great save out of Ospina that seemed to have injured our keeper, but he was alright to continue.

Wenger’s decision to leave Ozil in the team and bring Welbeck back was rewarded after 11 minutes, as Welbeck burst down the right and found Giroud whose mishit shot fell to Ozil who finished in style. A great start. Ospina made another good save from Rose a few minutes later and Bellerin started to get some joy down the right as the game opened up a bit.

We had two penalty claims for handball turned down but they were both probably accidental. The spuds were playing well and having a lot of the ball but our team defending was good and Coquelin was on hand to snuff out most dangerous situations. But we needed to use the ball better when we got it to avoid too much pressure.

But we were struggling and being forced back and had Ospina to thank for a third good save after half an hour. His handling from corners was pretty handy for us as well a few times and certainly helps the defenders’ confidence. The odd time we did get a good forward move going we looked capable of scoring but they were a bit too scarce for my liking.

Welbeck did really well to defend from a whipped free kick to keep us ahead at the break although that free kick and a couple after were very soft and definitely did not deserve the bookings dished out to Monreal and Welbeck. The play-acting of Dany Rose certainly did not impress our own Danny who was rowing when the players went off and still seemed upset after the restart.

Five minutes in and a good Gunners move ended with a Cazorla strike that Lloris just tipped round the post. On 55 minutes the game was level after Ospina’s parry from a corner fell to Kane to tap in. They came close to taking the lead a minute or so later after another Ospina parry but then a Welbeck curler nearly put us back in front.

With 25 minutes left Wenger replaced Cazorla with Rosicky as we were under the cosh and the Spaniard was not having much influence. But all the action was in our half and we couldn’t get out. It wasn’t all Spurs, with Giroud putting a rare but decent chance wide before Walcott came on for Welbeck with 15 minutes to go.

Arsenal should have had a penalty for a pull back on Mertesacker and it was nearly made even worse as Spurs almost scored on the break from it. The ref didn’t seem to want to give us anything except yellow cards and that penalty call became even more of a sore point when Kane rose to head his second in the 87th minute.

Akpom came on for Coquelin and we pushed hard in the four minutes of extra time but it was not to be and we have to take a damaging derby defeat on the chin and hope to bounce back on Tuesday.

    1. okay!…. Lets face it……… We Lost a derby……. We played crap, they played attack and style

      1. The first thing you need when you plan to defend and hit a team on the counterattack is pace. We only had Welbeck who was fresh off of the treatment table. Why Walcott was dropped is beyond me. A must win Derby game and we couldn’t even get a draw. We just took all three precious points gained from the Etihad and threw them away.

      2. i saw kane up close today, first look

he p*sses on giroud an welbeck- as a striker – bare in mnd hes 21- he was the difference
        reminds me of shearer

      3. This. Our (normally) ‘key’ performers did not turn up. Ramsey, Cazorla & Kos were not having the best of games. As much as I hate to say it, they looked like they wanted it more. Yes Giroud didn’t play well, but the service to him wasn’t that great either. They have some tough fixtures to come, so it could turn haywire for them.

      4. Deserved nothing more than what we got. A few things…

Playing deep and defensive/counter attack vs Man City away is one thing, seeing as they can go toe-to-toe with us football wise. But Spurs away? Crazy how that was ever a viable game plan. You’re telling me Ozil/Cazorla/Ramsey/Coquelin can’t out-football Erikson/Mason/Bentaleb/Dembele? Absolute joke.

Ramsey – What can I say? Is that really Aaron Ramsey? Absolute shadow of last years player. Good energy blah blah, but was an absolute liability with his careless running. Was he an attacking player or a defensive one today? If you asked him I’m not sure he could tell you. Headless chicken comes to mind, and not worthy of our starting 11 on form.

Coquelin – showed here exactly why a top class DM is needed in the summer. Not jumping on his back, he’s been terrific. But thoroughly average today given how constant the pressure was against us. He was out of position far too often, and this is a fixture where performances like that are not welcome. Poor game from the lad.

CB’s – Kos had one of his half asleep games, which is interesting when you consider Gabriel is itching to replace someone. But then again he’s breathing easy because he knows we have Per Mertesacker – bored of banging my head against the wall with him. He’s slow, not strong, doesn’t dominate aerially, and simply stops us having an air tight defense because everyone has to drop a further 5 yards to compensate his immobility. He’s #1 backup. Period.

So overall, awful tactics to bow down to the might of bentaleb and co. in the midfield battle. Should have absolutely dominated the middle of the pitch. Weak in midfield in the end and we couldn’t contain the one threat Spurs had in Kane. Job well done guys…..hear that? That’s Arsenal crashing back down to earth. 14 points behind the leaders, half dozen behind United.

Positives: Bellerin was solid and up for it, Monreal continues cementing his spot. Pretty much it, nobody else was above average.

        1. And if Ramsey had not been so awful in giving the ball away Couquelin would have been more efective, and Ozil is no left sided player. The three that saved us from a white wash were Bellerin Monreal Ospina. CB

          1. Your hard-on for Coquelin needs to calm down. He (along with the rest of our defence) was under pressure all game and he wasn’t up to scratch. No need to deflect, or blame others. He was bad. It happens.

            1. Then you replace the player that is causing the problem, comencence should tell you that at half time. CB

    2. We could not break out of our box because Ramsey either kept giving the ball away or was making the wrong passes. He launched all Tottenham attacks and his not good at winning the ball back

      1. He subbed some of our best players. Ozils back and he doesn’t get subbed. Ramsey terrible. Poor tactics. We were lucky it wasn’t 4-0. Wenger deserves blame. Hard to watch.

      2. Poor managerial skills displayed by wenger. Ramsey ws completely useless….why didn’t he put in rosicky for ramsey? We played well against city with the carzola—le coq—-rosicky trio in the middle of the park.

      3. Ya dead right Galaxy,Ramsey put to much pressure on Coquelins game. Should give Ozil,s next game in the middle, and drop Ramsey who is ending up like Flamani,a liability

    3. Absolutely rubbish Ramsey and Ozil are woe full. They should have been subed at half time Spurs deserved there win and Keane is all about a striker Rosickey was bought on too late, and again its all about the substation .Why he doesn’t play his strongest 11 Fu;;; the rotating shit Rotate when tired or playing bad Come on now you all have say constructive comments CB

    4. We lost, but we deserved to lose – that’s the most damaging thing and should never be the case in a derby game.

    5. Ramsey was so poor and has been since his back ruined a lot of counters…You all slate Wilshere but he would of showed fight and spirit he’s English and knows what this means to Arsenal but I guess him being English is the same reason he gets slated

      1. Rather Ramsey than wilshere. At least, Ramsey sometimes gives you goals or assist. Both are equally awful and inconsistent . Wilshere only appear to play well when the rest of the team plays badly but when you look closely, that is his level. Pretty average.

        1. Its not always about goals for a mid. A game like this you need to fight Wilshere will give you that he’s going to get stuck in he knows what it means to be an Arsenal player and before he’s injuries he was way ahead of Ramsey go watch him against City at home bossed the game and got stuck in you probably started wTching arsenal recently so you don’t remember Wilshere before the injuries

          1. Wilshere’ s only trick is 1-2 with giroud.
Personally, I think we only need cazorla and ozil on the pitch at the same time, with coquelin and Paulista behind them. Ramsey is incapable of fulfilling that role and Wilshere only plays with himself. Wilshere game is about me,myself and I and his game is incapable of bringing the best out of other players. That Braziliian can play DM from what I have seen from him in Spain. Put natural wide players and stop giroud from dropping deep all the time for those silly 1-2.

        2. agree. Ramsey still less of a disturbance than Wilshere, who cant even win the ball back. But Rosicky should be starting if anybody. Ramsey has been okay since he’s returned, but today he was at his absolute worst.

    6. Ramsey and Negativity cost us the game

OMG how bad was Ramsey, I went to Squawka to check the stats just to be sure I wasn’t singling him out. But no, he had the worst pass completion rate of both midfields. How was Carzola subbed and Rosicky not brought on for Ramsey!?

Otherwise it was a close game, Spurs were up for it and we were too negative at 1-0. But still I then checked Ramsey over the last couple of games and sure enough he keeps giving the ball away. WTF? Why is Wenger keep putting him straight in the team.

Very damaging for top 4 hopes.

    7. As a team, we had a very poor game today. Kept losing possession and showed no urgency to win the ball back. It was almost like the team was content to let Spuds have a go at us. Doesn’t help when the ref started dishing out cards to our players for no apparent reason. Monreal was good up until his yellow, eventhough the Spuds roughed it up for us in the middle of the park.

    8. It wasn’t just Ramsey, the whole team were awful today!! It’s like we wanted them to keep the pressure on us… Every time we intercepted the ball / made a tackle we gave the ball straight back to them and invited them for another attack. Shocking tactics and individual performances all round today! The boys need to redeem themselves on Tuesday!

      1. players poor but also: we haven’t had practice/experience doing this counterattack style. hey AW: need 2 fast wingers when u play this style. against manc we had sanchez/ox. can only have 1 of caz or ozil . and ramsey out. your squad has too many similar players and not enuf cdm. today we need another coq or a stronger b2b like ya ya. we need to adjust our plan : dont stop playing counterattacking style, but have 2 fast wingers and get a real B2B.

    9. Surely AKB…what was he thinking when they over pressed us, when rose was all over us, and substituting carzola instead of ramsey not to mention how does he see giruod?????
I was left with alot of hunger and ended up watching laliga…Diego Simeon is all we need.

    10. If we dont upgrade our central midfield in summer then we are in hot soup. Ramsey needs to earn his place on the bench

    11. Carzolar was poor because he was man marked by 3 guys. This is where Rosisky would have played a good role in passing the ball forward

    1. spuds don’t fly high u always in our shadow u were lucky today gooners fight back we never back down

      1. ehhh?
outplayed the whole game, dominated. beat us fair an square.
today we are in there shadow- luck my arse, they were better

        1. dude that is same thinking of spuds fan when they lost the match u can see that they always said that we were better arsenal were lucky i know that we played crap i want to motivate my team my pride so spuds go to hell we are champion and u r looser gooner for life #COYG

      1. Surprisingly don’t feel angry or sad. It was the same 2 seasons ago when Gareth Bale won it for us. The same when Eden Hazard won the game for Chelsea. Sometimes you get your tactics spot on, but it takes a single moment of genius from an in form player to change that. Hopefully, we’ll bounce back in the next game.

          1. You have been twigged Spudy boy lol
            first you congratulate them
then your saying Bale won it for us lol
wtf!… I see that your not alone here,
your fellow spuds are thumbing you up

        1. I agree. Its better to just forget this result. The goal doesn’t change. Keep getting 3 points and get into UCL spots. Plenty to play for still, and spuds have a history of slipping up at the finish line so they dont worry me. Other teams are starting to circle around us and its not the time to lose any momentum.

          1. dont forget it, learn from it.
ramsey on bench ; give it to roziscky.
            next time play 2 wingers.
AW still hasnt unlocked how to play caz + ozil together.

        2. You did see the game, we were outplayed and they had more pace which cost us the game Mertisacker cheating balls down on his 18 yard line was a joke We need now 3 to 4 players this game showed our weakness . CB

    2. Congrats indeed. They played well, we played like the inconsistent team we are. Some good matches, some gruesome. I never want to blame a result on the ref, but when everything goes Spurs’ way and we get a yellow on even the cheapest fouls, the players surely wont be able to play as passionate as they should, without risking a second yellow…

      What to blame it on?
-Horrible ref, favouring Spurs throughout the match
      -Horrible play by Arsenal
      -Equally good play by spurs

Is there a connection between the first and the last two?

We let Harry Kane go. Think about that for a second.

  1. How and why did we lose?
    Answer : Ramsey was shitttttttttttt.

All he did all game was launch attack for Tottenham

  2. No moaning, it’s not our day … I remember one article about “Kane vs Giroud”… Hope we finish 4th

    1. Gonna be hard now, with not only Spurs and Saints above us, but also Liverpool with Sturridge back lurking behind us with what i think is going to be one point later tonight. I just wonder what’s going to happen in Arsenal if we dont play Champions League next autumn. Arsene will never be fired directly, but maybe they are working on finding the future replacement already now – and maybe this will be Arsenes last season, should he fail to bring us at even a champions league spot.

  3. The game was lost in midfield today!!!

none could hold onto the ball – really poor.

Not sure about Ospina – makes everything look harder than it is and seems to put the ball back in the danger area.

Need to really shape up now because that was hard to watch

  4. Fair play to them. Played better than us for the whole 90 and deserved their win. We’ll be back to our best next week.

  5. today proved that a top notch striker wins u the big fames

giroud is not good enough to lead the line nor welbeck yet fans stil think theyre good enough

we need a top top striker and then we will challenhe in the big games with more attacking threat

    1. To me, this match is not the fault of just one player, everyone made a mistake and could’ve done better.

I thought Welbz did well coming back from his injury.

    2. Giroud has nearly as many goals as Kane in half the gametime. The problem was chances created and poor passing.

      1. mate i was there today-
i saw kane up close- he is an absolute striker- plus hes 7 years younger than giroud
i like giroud but now i get the buzz around kane

  6. spuds wanted it more, too many bad performances from us today. Wenger messed up on the subs as well. We’ve always beaten spuds because we’ve outplayed them. Today they outplayed us and we let em. Way too much respect shown from us and too many players who didnt show up today. Disappointed to say the least. :/

  7. so, looks like that the chosens one are back………… im really facking speechless today….
    wenger loses the game today……

    1. I blame the players on this one. Nobody could make any passes. Being defensive does work, but not for the entire 90 minutes. There were no parts of the game we had any solid possession. Them scoring was inevitable. What wenger did do wrong was make changes too late and keep Ramsey on. I think we were all expecting a double sub at 60 min.

  8. Many may disagree but we didn’t play badly overall, Tottenham were simply good today and it was to be expected with their great form. Kane is simply a beast of a player this season

  9. We didn’t lose because of any individual. We lost because we didn’t counter-attack. The game plan is pointless if you don’t counter. We were flat.

    1. What are you talking about?
Everybody did all that was expected of him. The weak link was Aaron Ramsey in the midfield. Every other arsenal player did their job. Cazorla could not get box to box because Ramsey was going the ball away all the time.
You cannot counter attack if a player keeps giving the ball away in the midfield.
Personally, I think Ramsey, wilshere and Szczecny need a new challenge.
      I will happily take
      15 million for ramsey
      10 million for wilshere
      10 million for welbeck
And use the money for a proper world class upgrade.

  10. its not a suprise…..

    its expected….

everyone knows we gonna lose….bookmakers win big

juz the fans still in denial…

    1. Damn man, that was the most hurtful defeat as an Arsenal fan… I’m completely emotionless right now and I’d don’t know if that’s good or bad…

    2. You are so miserable.

Who knew we’d lose, who expected it?? Easy to say after the event.

Certainly won’t find many supposed fans who f**king revel in it though?!!?!

    1. No no…dont question our defense.. if it wasnt for our defense we would have been buried deep..

Our midfield was aweful.. i dont understand.. keep the f$cking ball and slow the game.. how hard is that.. for God sake thats what we are good at.. posession.. ahhh f%ck it

  11. Sorry to say but they were the hungrier team and deserved to win. Our first touch was poor, not nearly as sharp as them. Ramsey had an absolute shocker and has gone right off. We have pacy players but failed to do any sort of decent counter attacking…not really sure what to think of this performance, it is clear we missed Sanchez.

  12. I need a fat old joint after watching that load of f*cking shit. Oh no wait better, I may just overdose on sleeping pills. When Ramsey isn’t scoring he’s f*cking diabolical, useless.

  13. Bottom line. Is sanchez and chambo were not effectively replaced by welbeck and ozil; their never-give up spirit was missing 2day

PS: What has happenend. 2 Ramsey??

  14. We were a shower of sh*t. Hope todays each and every player is ashamed before picking up their pay cheques.

Not one clear cut chance? And lying down like b*tches while allowing them to fvuk us over. Just fcuk the entire world. We deserved to lose. Disgraceful.

      1. If Sp*rs beat us fair and square without us showing a damn for a fight, do we really believe that Monaco will be a walkover?

I have never seen Arsenal show this much respect to them. So much lying deep down. We can be thankful that Danny Rose had a sh*t game or it could have been 5-1 all over again.

Why didn’t Rosicky and Walcott not start?

    1. no…. I don’t think you can call him out on that one, especially with all those crazy saves he made before.

  15. fair play spurs won but we were off our game and they were on it.
still we’ll come 3rd in league and ahead off spurs COYG

  16. Ramsey,Giroud,koz-atrocious,the rest just mediocre. How can u keep the donkey Giroud on the pitch for the entire game and replace Welbeck which was our only spark in attack?Yes,we are an one man team, and when that man is not playing we suffer badly

  17. I thought ramsey was poor today, kos should of done better for the goal…..as much as i hate to say this the yids had the better of the chances but ospina made some class saves! He has to stay as number one, also we wasnt as clinical as we have been in recent weeks

  18. we still need a world class striker, LW, CB, DM and gk….

lets spend.some.money in the summer and end this。。。

  19. Sick to my stomach
Spurs have gone ahead of us
possibly united, Chelski, city could all Win
    I feel devastated today

I wish we had started with Walcott

Cazorla, Welbeck and Ramsey did not perform well
Rosicky and Walcott substituted relatively late.

I predicted Walcott coming in 78th minute was off by 3 mins

But give Full marks to Spurs
Spurs wanted it more than us
    Congratulations

  20. Thats what I said, one game at a time. People here disliked my comments when I said we have to do on consistent basis. We are freaking 6th in the table now. Spurs tore us apart and if they had better finishing we would have been humiliated.

And I hope I dont see comments like Giroud> Kane. Disgraceful stuff. Never rated giroud and never will. Even the commentators admitted welbeck put in a whole lot of effort.

    Credit to spurs.

  21. We changed the whole tactics in this game.. Welbeck and Ozil on the wing to replace The Ox and Sanchez..

Ramsey was just like a tortoise all game, giving away each and every ball, doing nothing defensively or offensively..

No pace and fight at all.. Rubbish performance,,,

  22. I’d love the smash up that pretty boy face of Harry Kane with a baseball bat, the f*cking dirty y*ddo c*nt, bunch of f*cking mugs

  23. Still a lot of ground to cover in the BPL. Time for our Gunners to come down from Cloud Nine and get back in shape.

  24. Why are people so bitter?

Fans and players alike were over confident and complacent.

I just like our players talking, they should be banned from speaking to the media neither should they speak to Arsenal Player.

  25. As I said, all our players can stay fit against the small teams but when it comes down to it and we need them, they get injured, disgraceful.

  26. Missed the intensity of Sanchez today!
Well done Kane…just showed a natural goal scorer can win you more games and not flicks & hold up play!

    1. Hold-up play is vital when you play on the counterattack, the problem was there was no one to hold it up for..

  27. Wenger got the selection wrong. Ozil should have been substituted in early in the second half. Lost count how many times he lost the ball and couldn’t defend a single ball. I am afraid Ozil’s return is transforming Cazorla’s game to the downside. Is it too much to bench Ozil?

    1. He did a very good job and we have no reason to complaints as the only goal we got was an offside goal. So stop blaming refs like we have been doing for past 10 years and get our act together.

  28. the spurs midfield trio was better than ours, much more dynamic and creative. i’m impressed by bentaleb. we need a commanding defensive midfielder

  29. the truth is that arsenal are not a coherent team anymore…not clear what their footballing strategy is…seem to have given up on passing game for counterattack which might work in odd games but wont win us anything unless we have a midfield that can hold on to ball because we will be under the kosh most of game and will eventually buckle…but the problem was clear at half time in this gane and wenger didnt do anything about it…and if he is paid for anything it is to make those kind of critical decisions….because he is a second rate manager hoping again for 4th place….its too painful to watch this macabre dance year in year out so i genuinely hope that we finish outside the top 4 this season as it is the only way the man will go taking his favoured flock of medicore players with him…and that is the only way we can improve now

  30. They Spuds deserved it.. We looked like a pub team that were just learning how to play football, we were so hesitant for the 50/50 balls..

And as I keep saying, when Cazorla has a good game we don’t lose.. When he has a quiet game no one can pick us up..

Cazorla is crucial and Sanchez too…

So no excuses, we were poor and Spurs deserved to win. They wanted it more..

  31. Im very angry knowing that the spuds will be celebrating that win over us! Let them enjoy it while it last, because im still confident we will finish above those “fry chickens”! Coyg!

    1. I had hoped you had over dosed like you said you would earlier.

I hate people who say they are going to do something and never do it..

    2. I actually feel more confident about beating Chelsea at the Emirates and then Man U at Old Trafford than I did about this one. I think we’ll come out stronger in those games

    3. Might have been, Hull just beat them 1 – 0 Hurt us scoring too many goals against VILLA we came to this game believing we were once again the Invincibles…. the 4 – 0 / 3 – 0 were up on the Air. Well we had a violent crash with reality, noit much to do to regroup hope Sanchez gets fit and fight for that 4th

  32. Even if it was a draw i would be happy. My optimism is misplaced on this team without Sanchez. One solid game without him, ànd we flatter to deceive. My expectations of this team needs to be lowered. And football can be a absolute assh*le some times.

    1. exactly. We could’ve come back from 1-1 and maybe won it if Wenger subbed the right people at the right times. Why did Cazorla come off instead of Ramsey? Ramsey was giving the ball away the whole day, and Santi is much better at holding onto it. And Welbeck shouldve been off earlier too when he only became a liability in 2nd half.

  33. Really disappointed by the loss. We lost this battle at the midfield. Carzola was off ramsay couldn’t keep the ball at all. Unfortunately I have to give credit to the tottenham midfield. This was one of those days prob rosicky shulda started instead of ramsay because he keeps the ball much better. But no probs, we are still on course to do great things this season. The team just needs to learn from the loss and don’t let the defeat damage their confidence.

  34. We’re setting a bad trend of negative records against us…

Add Harry Kane they’re homegrown player to score the winner on his first NLD in front of his home crowd.

  35. Ramsey was poor but to be fair ospina was our best player so it shows ya spurs was the better team! I hope ospina stays as number one though! Hes got quality

  36. I thought both their backs Rose and Walker were far more impressive going forward than our backs. Maybe time for Gabby to come on, either as a back or CB.
Without Sanchez our attack suffers but it’s a long season and fourth is a priority but so is FA cup and CL.
I think we have a trophy ahead of us.

  37. In order of importance, we lost because:
    1. Almost to a man we played shite
    2. Spurs played well, chapeau
    3. Arsene’s tactics were woeful, the halftime talk must have been “plus la meme chose”
    4. Atkinson got almost every major decision wrong. Mason had a blinder partially because he didn’t see yellow in the first half, he had free licence

Still confident we’ll be looking at the Spurs in the rearview mirror in May but today, full credit to them, they fully deserved the three points.

  38. Agree , ref was shit but so were arsenal. Ramsay is really off form, he is a liability , needs another break to get his self sorted. I would have started Rosiky instead. Cazorla also had a quiet game but it’s hs first after a long time. But Ramsay has just not cut it, we need him to produce that form like last season. Wallcot came on too late and wellbek should have stayed on, unless withdrawn for fitness issue. Giroud as well today …terrible. We need to bounce back. Also give credit to Spurs, they played very well, deserved the win today , Kane very impressive s well as Mason. But wenger must keep Ramsay on the bench next game….plz….like the guy, he is good but needs to regain form. Hopefully Sanchez back soon

  39. They beat us like real men. We need accept defead and move on as they where the better team today.

I could give you some reasons what was wrong with the team but people are so into fanboisem thats its pointles at times to argue about such things.

They wanted it more, the coash wanted it more, the players want it more, and thats what counts in football.

  40. giroud welbeck and ramsey on the same pitch does not work all 3 of them when on the ball is like they are on ice skating

  41. Well Welbeck must be very agree. He lost his place on the England football to to Harry Kane.I like the guy (Kane). He doesn’t dive like Bale.No rolling around theatrics like Giroud.Likes to play for his team.Very unselfish..Just need to keep his head down and dont let the typical english media hype ruin him like Wilshere and co

  42. Ramsey just seem to have been a one season wonder….. I am so disappointed with the lack of effort today…

What was that?? and for the second goal, watch how every single Arsenal player was just standing there with no pressure on the ball, the guy had all the time to pick a cross. That’s what happened with Brightons second goal, everyone just standing off..

    smh

    1. For me Ramsey has never really cut it.Always seem to give the ball away even when he was having this wonder season

  43. Glass ankles or not, smoking a cigarete and going back to sleep or not, Wilsher is one of my fav players in the team for a reason.

      1. Its real tllk bec its me saying it, who means it. We need fighters in the team and not pretty boys aka pu%sys.

        1. if i need my grass trimmed- il call jack.
having him today would not have helped- losing the ball going to ground – does not win u games.
hes got heart but he is a liability

          1. You people are so stupid that it isnt funny anymore. All players do smoke, but they dont do it in a daily. It doesnt effect the players performance as Wilshers game fitnes proves it.

His football style is what the team needs, superb ball controll and good in beating players. His passing is also suberb, short and long balls. But fakk that. Enjoy the defead today.

  44. Ramsey was hopeless… Wenger should’ve seen that and taken him off. As per usual Wenger was unable to change the game around, even though it was obvious we needed it, and any subs he made were just too late, and questionably the wrong people were taken off.

I think we became over cautious when the referee was awarding us yellow cards for spud play acting – Rose was disgusting, yet giving us nothing for what looked to me borderline red card offences against us.

I thing it was a combination of poor attacking midfield, poor decisions by Wenger and the referee that lost us the game. Real shame because I was hoping to make french fries out of those spuds.

  45. Oh cmon, its not end of the world, we will finish in top 4 they wont, we have very easy fixture, today, they wanted it more, at least there wont be articles on Arsenal winning epl LOL

  46. Sorry but we need Sanchez and The Ox back, Ramsey has got to be dropped now. He is just not doing anything…

The Ox is inconsistent but he does drive us with pace and cause problems. And Cazorla is the main reason we were terrible today, when he has a bad or quiet game we lose or draw at best..

  47. And this Ramsey thing, LOL its his foult, our whole mid were bad and very shaky, we looked tired, and without focus, we needed to exploit rose, very bad defensivly, but who cares now, we need to get ourselfs and start winning against leichester

      1. We didnt lose cuz of his passes, our colectiv performance wasnt good, i admit ramsey is not even close to his last year form, but our best player Cazorla wanst in game at all, against city he had crazy performance, we needed him now, but even best players can have day off!!!

        1. He must be giving Wenger flowers and chocolates in a daily, otherwise i cant explain how the manager favores him so much.

          1. i agree, 3 years ago, he played every game and he was not even better than semi-pros, after that he rised his form and became our best player last season, who knows what wenger is thinking.

  48. Why on earth we went defensive against Tottenham I’ll never know. We’re Arsenal, we’re the bigger club, the better club. The most important thing in a derby game is desire – you have to go out and beat your opponent, prove you’re the better team – we showed none of that today.

  49. If we don’t make the Champions League, I expect nothing less than for Wenger to go on a crazed spending spree and splash any money it takes to sign Pogba, Cavani and a World Class keeper.

  50. Once again Wenger shows that Arsenal can’t compete with a team that puts it up to them.
Wenger is past his sell by date time for him to go . Wenger OUT.

  51. Dont worry Gooners!! We are going to have easier run of fixtures in the next few weeks in which we will whack mid table teams and Wenger/Arsenal will be the star again. We will again for a short period become a great team capable of challenging for the titles only to be eventually thrown into a pit in a big game. In Arsenal I Trust. In 4th place i believe!

  52. we gave way too much respect to a mediocre team we should have attacked from the beginning instead we sat deep & defended never easy to do that unless u r chelski bus company

  53. need physical players as well playing with midgets in PL won’t work all ways need a strong cdm & a world class striker as well

    1. those were none of the problems today. Coquelin was still great today, and we already know Koscielny is good in the air, Kane was just better today and Kos was weak on that challenge. The problem today was simple. Nobody could pick out a pass, and that has nothing to do with CDM’s or short players.

      1. Kos was not looking good against Villa either, he looks like he’s carrying an injury. Ideally he should be rested but I don’t know if we can afford that.

  54. Spurs were deserving winners. They were motivated and came to the game with the mindset to win. We were dominated throughout. Am i wrong to believe that the score line would have been much worse and we were actually lucky in that department ?

  55. so is not having sanchz is the latest excuse?
With mert and monreal in the team forget about progress. not playing walcott when it we were clearly set up for counter attacking is ridiculous.

  56. When our game plan was to to sit back and counter attack, why din not Walcott start ??? Can Wenger give any damn excuse ???

  57. i just wish our players were less scared, i just dont get it, you play whole life, and against teams where you can show you quality you crack, ozil dedication is less than low, Bielik would crush him and he is 17 ffs, child mentality, Sanchez atleast fight always!!!

  58. And why all the ranting? Its not like we lost to Leicester.
This was a derby and any one can take it!
I smell the Wenger out rants coming soon!

    1. i doubt it. I think people realize we were just not good enough today. Wenger can’t force Cazorla, Ramsey, Welbeck to pass better. Spuds wanted it more and it showed.

  59. Too many f*ing injuries in this team that cost us in big games over, and over again. How can you compare the city game vs this game when TWO KEY players like Sanchez and OX were missing? We’re also missing Debuchy a starting player, yes bellerin did OK but having debuchy would’ve been much much better. The consistent injuries in this team are very alarming and no team can win a title by having 3/4 starting XI players out for months on end.

  60. I want my £59 pound back for my ticket.
We just let them play their game. Our line up was all wrong. welbeck had a shocker. Özil needs to stop pulling out of challenges. Coquelin was the only one who I thought had a good game. Ramsey and Cazorla went missing. At one point we were just hoofing the ball all over the place…..

Not a good day, there’s nothing worse than smug tw*t Tottenham fans…….

  61. The only damage this win has done is kill any 0.001 percent chance or lingering thot of us winning the league. Its dead and buried now. But with the remaining fixtures starting with Leicester at home on Tuesday until April, I see a confident Arsenal getting all the points. The players MUST NOT allow this defeat damage their confidence and good work so far. Tottenham even play Liverpool away on Tuesday. A loss/ draw there and a win for us at home and we are back above them before even mid Feb. I really hope the team responds to this defeat against Leicester with style.

  62. When will we start appreciating other teams. Please we are not saints. Stop whining about injuries, refs. we have been doing that for past 10 years. Sick and tired. I am not going to say we were poor today, it was just tottenham played one of the finest footballs.

  63. Ramsey has not had a good game since being back from injury. I don’t understand why Wenger insists on playing him full games when he clearly isn’t 100%. Surely it’s better to bring him on slowly, preferably against easier teams when we are comfortable, which would not only improve his confidence but also his rehabilitation?

  64. What amazed me is that after Özil goal our team collectively relaxed on the defensive end and was happy to sat so deep as if we were in the late stage of the game…we should have better mixed up our game plan sitting deep to defend in a more compact way is good but when you have the ball you must take good care of it and find teammates in good positions quickly…both Cazorla and Ramsey were poor and I do feel that they both should’ve been subbed of early for Rosicky and Walcott! But Bellerin and Kos didn’t defend amazingly well like they did the past few games!!…Coquelin played great again considering that he was too often left too protect the back four against 2, sometimes 3 players…our team effort was poor after our goal…we needed to do better and the next few games will give us that opportunity I hope…Alexis please be back!!!!!

    1. For all the speed that we supposedly have we didn’t use it as much…and this one will be one to forget

  65. We had a bad run in this game but what happened to the other games when we were in fine form… coyg its arsenal we perform good in 3 games & sometimes we play like crap in the next game if ur a gunners fan u suppose to b use to this bs by now!!!! All i can say iz we really missed sanchez in this derby!!! Coyg on to the next against lec city!!!
    #IN17WETRUST #INWENGERWEBUST! !

  66. ospina 6
    bell 6.5 Mert 7 Kos 6 Mon 7
    coq 7 rams 5
    welb 7 santi 5 Ozil 6
    Giroud 6

    theo 5 ros 6 akpom n/a

    Wenger 5

Should have subbed ramsey and put santi in a deeper role while moving Ozil inword, welbeck to the left, Walcott right and possibly Akpom upfront.

second half attack should have looked like this

    coq santi
    Theo Ozil Welb/Ros
    Akpom

  67. There are so many knee jerkers on this forum it’s laughable.Spurs were better than us today.Accept it.We played the same way against Man City we won,Wenger is a genius. We play the same way again Spurs and loose.Wenger is crap.If we had played free flowing football against Spurs and lost,Wenger would have been blamed for not playing defensively.Sometimes you have to accept when a team is better.Harry Cain is a great player at the moment but lets see whether he is any good next season.

    1. y did he bring in a player straight from injury and bench walcot who was already gaining?
y even after seeing that rose had no work 2do defending, did he still leave in welbeck?
y does he bench Rosicky for ramsey?
y doesn’t he use real wingers?
      what does giroud offer us?
WHAT IS WENGER STILL DOING @ARSENAL???????????????

      1. Walcott made no impression at all .Giroud scores goals and when he scores in the next match or so you’ll be loving him.I do agree however agree Rosicky should have played instead of Ramsey
