Transfer interest the reason Wenger started this Arsenal star?

Even though the current season has seen Arsene Wenger having to cope with the usual raft of Arsenal players being ruled out with various injury problems, I think we can also see that the strength and depth in the Arsenal squad is better than it has been for years.

So although it is never good to be without players of the quality of Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck we have got pretty good options all over the pitch in most positions. Some areas are stronger than others though, such as at right back where the Gunners have Calum Chambers on loan as well as Bellerin, Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gabriel and Rob Holding.

The other side of our back line is a different matter however. Wenger does have two very good left backs in Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal but after that we would be struggling. So it seems pretty clear that the boss needs to keep both of them fit and happy or sign another in the transfer market.

And with Metro reporting that Crystal Palace are looking at a possible transfer swoop for Gibbs, I wonder if that is why Wenger gave the Englishman a rare Premier League start against West Brom on Boxing Day. Gibbs has been with the club for his whole career after coming through the youth system but I could see why he might want to leave in order to get more regular game time.

Is that why he started a few days ago? And should Wenger spread the left back duties out more fairly between him and Monreal?

Bob.

  1. It was the correct move to make unfortunately Gibbs got injured again. Realisability is his main problem. One more should come in Gaya is an exciting player and is the best friend of hector bellerin. He isn’t having the best 15months of his career but a change of scenery can see him develop into a world class lb e.g. Bellerin. We could even offer them debuchy as they will be loosing cancelo to Barca in the summer

Alternetivley josh tymon is a player wenger could turn good he has bpl xp and still only 17

    1. I like Gaya, maybe a change of scenery is what he really needs. Didn’t know he and Bellerin where best friends though. Sounds great to have Spains best 2 young wing backs for years to come. Maybe Bellerin could share his secret of breaking into the first team and Mustafi has played with him before as well. January would be a good time to bring him in for bedding in towards next season.
