Two players that could decide the Liverpool v Arsenal game

Both Liverpool and Arsenal possess top-quality stars, especially up front, however, it may well fall to two unfashionable players to decide who emerges as the winners on Saturday evening.

It is easy to overlook the roles that goalkeepers play, they are not the big names that most people pivot towards, but Arsenal’s Bernd Leno and Liverpool’s Adrian could easily be the most important players on the pitch.

It is fairly certain that both will be called upon on a regular basis, especially Leno, however, Adrian is unlikely to have a quiet game and he is not exactly the safest pair of hands.

Adrian showed against Southampton last weekend that he is very liable to errors and that will feed through to the Reds defence. You have to think that their confidence in him is limited.

Leno does have the confidence of the Arsenal backline but his distribution and aerial judgement is questionable at times.

In effect, we have two keepers that are more than capable of pulling off brilliant saves that are also prone to the odd error.

It is quite conceivable that the game on Saturday could be decided by a goalkeeping error and in that regard, you have to give the slight advantage to Arsenal but that is negated by the fact that Leno is likely to be the busier keeper.

      1. How clear must one be? There’s always a chance to score.

        Leno was brought to Arsenal in part because of his distribution skills so I wouldn’t call that a weakness for him. I agree with him being doubtful in the air though.

        The way I see it, any player could decide the game against Liverpool and Leno will have to be at his best like everyone else.

      2. I think the likes of Luiz, Cabellos and Aubameyang might be changing our DNA strand Nonny and we will see more shots from distance.

        1. This DNA stuff related to football is bullshit anyway.

          Auba scored one (!!) goal from outside the box in his entire Dortmund career, but already quiet a few in the short time he’s been with us. Has his shooting DNA changed? LOL

  1. I am hoping that UE stops with the short ballpassing at the back.

    This puts too much pressure on Leno and it is obvious he is not comfortable playing it.

    Just let him play his natural game and we will not have to worry about the pressing of pool’s forwards.

    We got away with it (JUST) against Burnley and I don’t want see Leno persecuted on here for doing what the coach asks him to do.

    1. Ken, This building from the back is always fraught with danger and IMO, only City look confident doing it. Most teams are putting themselves in constant danger for what seems to me, very little upside reward. I fervently hope we do not do it AT ALL on Saturday, as you say. You either need to do it supremely well, in which case it is effective OR ditch it altogether in matches, ( but keep practising though in training only, until you are excellent, before using it competitively). As yet we are miles from being able to do it well and it is an accident always waiting to happen.

      1. City only got good at it by doing it consistently though. City made tons of mistakes passing out the back when Pep first arrived, and now they do it flawlessly. You don’t get good at something if you stop trying. But I do agree that perhaps against Liverpool isn’t the best match to push it.

      2. Jon
        My problem with Leno is he cant see past the short game
        When they are pressing and we have 2 or 3 quick guys up top then why doesnt he by pass the middle and drop it over the top a few times..city certainly do this..
        Keep them guessing
        I like it when we bring it from the back ..heart attack an all but some times we are too predictable

        1. A. ball 08, it is never sensible to be totally predictable in what you do. It gives opponents the upper hand when they have a good idea how you will play. BUT I still want no back passing this Saturday; it is not worth the real risk of a goal or more against us by a mistake or two.

  2. If it comes to the keepers then arsenal should come out from anfield wit a positive result as leno is by far a better goalie than adrian… Anyways arsenal should and must take advantage of Allison’s absence and show aggression in attack

  3. So do we just accept Liverpool are a better and more established side than us and gobup on Saturday resigned to defeat? Or does anyone else feel we have match winners in our squad on par with them? If Emery coaches a defensive formation to keep us in the game there is no reason why we cannot get a result up there.I bet Klopp is working on his plans to stop us getting the type of chances Norwich and Southampton created.And Chelsea made them look very ordinary at times with their worst side for 15 years.Why are so many resigned to defeat before we’ve even travelled up there?This game is winnable.Iys just the defence……

    1. I completely agree..We can get a positive result..We just have to be composed throughout the game and avoid lapses in our concentration.

    2. That’s arsenal fans mindset for you, i also believe we have can get a good result against them if the coach use the right tactics and the right players.

  4. Arsenal should perfect a match winning match starts formation plan that will see them beat Liverpool at home collecting all points in the match on Saturday in PL and move up to the top of table sitting on it unhindered after playing 3 matches. This is what I want to see Arsenal do to Liverpool this weekend in the PL and believe all Gooners also want same.

    But how should Arsenal perfect a match playing formation winning plan that will see the Gunners beat the Reds and collect all the points in the match and mount the table?

    I think if Emery will agree with me to have Arsenal start a back-three defence that comprised 2 full-backs-wing-backs better known as back-five, and maybe switch to back-four defence at some stages in the match say, 433 or 4231 as could progressively be required during the match. I strongly believe Arsenal will definitely overcome whatever Liverpool have on offer in the match against Arsenal and beat them.

    My Back-Three Centrebacks Defence Match Playing Formation Starting XI Team To Start The Liverpool Away Match Are As Below.

    Starts:
    Leno;
    Chambers Luiz Sokratis;
    Ainsley Mainland- Niles Kolasinac;
    Guandouzi Ceballos Willock;
    Lacazette Aubameyang.

    This is principally a 5-3-2 playing formation Gunners match starts.

    Bench:
    Martinez Mustafi Monreal Torreria Mkhitaryan Martinelli Pepe.

    I believe Xhaka who is now the Gunners team captain is down with some kind of injury. So, he play in the Liverpool match. And the much Nelson Gooners maligned Gunner I have omitted in my 18 for the match but I have Martinelli on the bench in his place.

  5. Even if liverpool play with reserves arsenal aren’t going to beat or hold them to draw. Is win wim win win win win for liverpool so wake up guys and start preparing for spurs.

    1. What kind of supporter you are??
      How do you expect winning a trophy if you show a weak and pathetic mentality… A shame on you sir.

    2. The buildup to this match feels eerily like the buildups to Barca/Bayern UCL matches where we try to kid ourselves into thinking we are as good as the opposition. Liverpool have had flaws recently, but we have bigger flaws. I just know I’m going to see one of our midfielders give the ball away cheaply, and LFC pounce on a counter and score. I think we are making progress but we are not good enough to get 3 points at Anfield. A point I would take and RUN and call it an amazing result.

    3. We don’t need a fan like you Brendal on this post . Go and support Hobo Klop and his big headed players . If you don’t have faith on your own team you real irritates me I think the whole fans here . I ran out of words before I say something won’t like . I do have faith and I will be behind the boys and they will come out with 3 points . Just go and support those Liverpool with their ugly attire . Go Arsenal with a win

    My Arsenal Back-Three Centrebacks Defence Match Playing Formation Starting XI Team And The 7 Gunners On Bench To Start The Liverpool Away Match Are As Below.

    Starts:
    Leno;
    Chambers Luiz Sokratis;
    A M- N —- Kolasinac;
    Guandouzi Ceballos Willock;
    Lacazette Aubameyang.

  7. Liverpool play a very high line. If we play both Aubameyang and Pepe up top, long balls from anyone of Leno, David Luiz or Xhaka could find them, giving us a potentially deadly counter-attack. I’m interested to see whether Emery is able to show some tactical fluidity here and take advantage of that or if he plays into Liverpool’s high press and demands we play out from the back all the time–a risky strategy.

  8. Can people stop with their negativity here and support our team roster looking for the mistakes . Liverpool doesn’t have a keeper . Arsenal will come home with three points . Van dyk won’t stand Pepe at all I see him falling him . I truly have confidence the boys won’t reoeat the lost for last season it is still hurt lots . They will fight for every ball, and bring three points .All three attackers will score Saturday . I got faith on the boys
    Unai just have to take right decision on his selection . Namcho had a good Games but for this one Liverpool attackers are very fast I wish Sead can cone in as he can handle those fast runners . Three points for the gunness

  9. Don’t realise what a good GK arsenal have in Leno,25 years old still very young for GK,he doesn’t make many mistakes but he does they’re usually blunders,he remained me of our last German keeper, can be harsh even crazy at times like our last German GK whose name I forgot how to spell,he will only get better,the guy has some of the best reflexes in the PL!
