Unai Emery provides an update on Dani Ceballos injury.

Ceballos picks up a “small injury” in 1-1 draw with Vitoria in Europa League.

One of the low points of Arsenal’s game against Vitoria was the injury that Dani Ceballos picked up.

Ceballos, who had been picked to start the game signalled to the bench on the 51st minutes that he wanted to come off with a suspected hamstring strain.

The injury is a blow for Arsenal as Ceballos is one of the few creative players available to Emery.

However, when asked about the injury, Emery allayed fears by confirming a scan will be done to determine the extent of the injury. He also added that his thoughts are that it is a small injury.

“Yes, we are going to wait for the analysis tomorrow but at the beginning, I think it is a small injury.” Emery stated.

Although Ceballos has failed to score or assist in the league since the first two games, he remains an integral part of the team.

Creativity is a huge issue for Arsenal and losing the 23-year-old would be a huge loss. The last thing Emery needed was to start losing players at such a critical time. It could also mean a quicker return for the disgraced Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka is not as creative as Ceballos but he is far more of a playmaker than some of his teammates. That said, he is not a long term solution to the lack of creativity in the midfield.

Hopefully, the Spaniard will be out for a short period of time. Otherwise, Emery may have to dip into the tarnsfer market in January.

  1. Big loss for us. Hope he isn’t gone long

Without Ceballos, We will need to start Pepe, Aubameyang, Lacazette and either Ozil or Smith-Rowe. Also Tierney and Bellerin can help the attack.

  2. Our bad luck continuing… I say luck, but it’s not like we have any!
Now if we were Liverpool….last night Ederson went off injured… ☹

    1. Man city GK ederson injured last night, bravo the 2nd GK red carded,Kyle walker had to play the last 10_15 minutes in the goals that,s bad luck sue!!

  3. Ceballos could play an important role in the team, because his skills are similar to Cazorla’s

Xhaka’s and Ceballos’ exclusions from the squad will be an opportunity for Willock, Guendouzi, Torreira, Chambers and Smith-Rowe to seize the central midfield spots

    1. Cellabos was showman like on his first display. Not been impressed since then. But, this is the EPL. Players need time!

  4. Ceballos had only flattered to deceive, and his show boating isn’t going to mask his ineffectiveness thus far. He takes far too many touches and slows the game down and isn’t as creative as we think he is, his dinks and nutmeggjng notwithstanding. He needs to step up asap.

  5. While I don’t wish Ceballos anything bad I hope he’s out for longer. I’ve been very disappointed with him after all the hype, he spends a lot of time just running around in tight circles with little end product. He’s certainly not a patch on Cazorla. I thing Pepé should be tried in his place as Pepé is wasted on the wing and I feel will be more creative in a forward midfield position. Guendouzi can play deep with Torriera.

    1. Pepe is wasted out wide?!? Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t he played his entire career as a winger come striker?

Amazes me how often Emery gets called out for playing players like Ozil and Torreira out of position but at the same time people think it’s OK to push Auba out wide, tell Martinelli he (and multiple managers) is mistaken for thinking he is a winger and he should only be played as a CF, and now Pepe is wasted out wide and should be played in the middle – so glad to see consistency at play here 🤦‍♂️😂

  6. Hope he recovers fast for Arsenal. As it is, other than Ozil, we do not have any other creative player in the midfield other than Ceballos. For Gods sake, Xhaka should not come back. Try Smith Rowe instead.
