Unconvincing Arsenal still put pressure on catchable Chelsea

I was hoping that Arsenal would produce a convincing performance in the Premier League yesterday and record a big win over Southampton, As we all know that did not happen and you could argue that the Gunners were lucky to get any win at all, but thanks toa late goal from Danny Welbeck all the points did go to Arsenal.

It was hardly the sort of thing to increase the pressure on our London rivals Chelsea who sit one place above us in the league table and for some time it looked as though the Blues would stroll to victory themselves, but despite and early goal and plenty more chances, they allowed West Ham to gain a foothold and then claim a point through a Javier Hernandez strike.

You could feel the tension and lack of confidence around Stamford Bridge and once the Hammers had scored you could see it in the players, so maybe Arsenal winning was enough. Things are not going well for Antonio Conte and the reigning EPL champions this season who are now just three points above Arsenal.

With six games to go it will be Chelsea feeling the pressure, while on the other hand Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal team should gain inspiration from being so close to the side above. It looks like being a very interesting run-in, but can Arsenal catch and pass Chelsea?

  1. In the long run, we will get punished for the way we play. We give so many chances away to very mediocre teams. This will make us loose games not only against strong teams, but also too often against teams, we shouldn’t loose to.
That is why we can’t compete, and we may have a good period right now, but as always over the last 10 years, we will hit the stumbling blocks. But of course, we can hope, Chelsea will implode.

    1. As witnessed this season with the Away performances against all the teams (bar Palace) in the lower reaches of the League. You could have written Southampton’s tactics before the game as it’s what most teams do against us.We continue to be unconvincing and like you Anders S I do not offer the excuse of the side being full of replacements for rested First Team players.
Wilshere is off at the end of the season with doubts over Ramsey.Whatever happens a top drawer CDM MUST BE BOUGHT.
All great teams have one Wenger. There was a time YOU had one.REMEMBER? The

        1. Agree Phil; everyone bar Arsene Wenger can see the deficiencies in not having a proper DM since Gilberto Silva left.
Also there is minimal competition for positions exacerbated by selling Debuchy and Gabriel and the defenders Arsenal do have appear to lack coaching in the structure, discipline and techniques to defend as a team.

  2. We usually finish the season strongly, so I hope we keep it up as we’re slowly closing the gap. Gutted as West Ham should have had a penalty yesterday, if they’d converted it they would have won the game.
Can’t stand Chelsea, so it’s nice to see things not happening for them!

    1. The gap for 5th ? why it only adds extra money and suggests wenger should stay sue ?? whats the point

weve gone from the top 4 trophy to trying to compete for 5th WOW

    2. Yeah its just 30 points now.
I know its nice to find positives but there are none for this season – going on a run when you are sixth and have nothing to play for is meaningless.
      Just like Arsenal’s season.
      Meaningless..

    3. “Can’t stand Chelsea” Me too. I can never hate United or even spuds as much as I hate the chavs

  3. Finishing above Chelsea really makes no difference to our poor premiere league campaign. Only winning the Europa will give us anything to shout about this season and that won’t happened if we defend the way we do. We’ve all seen what Chelsea done the last time they failed in the league, they made the necessary changes the following season and won it, where we have taken over 10 years to even start trying to make a change.

  4. I believe Gazidis will take us back to the top..Do you believe in Gazidis??..because i Chiza believes in Gazidis….if you believe in Gazidis let me see you with the hashtag…..#BelieveInGazidis

  5. What’s the point? Whose gain? We can’t contend for CL place we are thinking about 5th place? So, this is how far we have degenerated? Contending for 5th is for teams like Everton. Who has done this to us? Hiding my face where Sp*d fans gather unlike before that I will look for where they gather.

  6. Chelsea missed chance after chance, as well as Hart making some fine saves, so West Ham were lucky to get a draw.
Arsenal can’t expect Chelsea to continue misfiring.
Talking about West Ham not getting a penalty, it looks like Manchester City won’t get a penalty awarded for love or money, after their treatment by refereees in the games against Liverpool and Manchester United. Arsenal have also not been on the plus side of the ledger. No wonder no English referees are officiating at the World Cup in Russia.
Will Arsenal contest Elneny’s red card?

  7. See as big club like Arsenal dey struggle for 5th place. What a pitiful season as the last 10 years. Tufiakwa!
    #BelieveInGazidis
    WENGER OUT!!

  8. So what if we do catch them! Big deal! Catch a club with a megalomaniac owner who sacks even proven winners annually. We should be after catching the big fry OTHER CLUBS and could , if only we had not indulged this useless manager a decade too long already. But, I know the club will act against him next month and then, FINALLY, we can begin the great catch up, which will however take two or three years to recover from the cancer WENGER HAS LEFT BEHIND. Not one decent defender. NOT ONE! What a total scandal!

    1. Jon Fox, what makes you so sure the club will act against Wenger? I would love a change right now but honestly can see no hope that he will go before the end of his current contract. The board just wont sack him.

  9. I care more about finishing ahead of Chelsea than finishing 5th again. I think finishing 6th would be better because it shows the Board that we are getting worse.

  10. saw a headline some where ” chelsea are becoming another Arsenal” damn!!! worse yet i know for sure chelsea won’t be where they are i can bet on that, what about us though ???

  11. I believd the issue is not finishing above Chelsea. The issue should be about winning the EPL and if that fails being in the top four. However this season has been a bad one just like the previous. I am optimistic that with the additions we have made in the striking force, we now need to reinforce the backline and midfield and next season could be a promising one. We still have a chance in Europa which we need to take very seriously. Who knows? We could end up Victorious and get a European trophy? There is still all to play for. It is unfortunate that our new striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is cup-tied and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is injured. However we are still more than capable of doing well with Ozil, Lacazette, Welbeck, Ramsey and our other forward players. We only need to tighten at the back and the midfield and see how far we can go. Nothing is impossible. We only need confidence and a winning mentality and the rest will fall in place.
