Burnley are a big mental challenge for Arsenal

The Gunners are preparing for the Burnley game tomorrow, and on paper it looks like it should be a simple three points for Arsenal, but the fact is that the game will be played on grass, and Arsene Wenger has admitted that this is the sort of game where we dropped points last season.

It is a fact that we have known to be complacent against mid-table teams, as Wenger pointed out. “For us, it’s a very important game. It’s a very important challenge for us as well because we dropped points against teams between fifth and 12th at home last season.

“We know that’s one of our challenges this season, to perform against these kinds of teams at home. We want to win this game so it’s very important that we prepare well mentally.

“We’ve had some practise [against teams who sit back at the Emirates] but we also don’t forget the ingredients that are needed to play against a team who is very deep.

“That means we have to use the speed of our game, the speed of our passing and the quality of our runs will be very important. We will have to keep a cool head in the final third too, and not give anything away on the counter-attack.”

I know Wenger is trying to keep the team focused, but it is very difficult not to be confident against an opponent that has only gained 1 point on the road this season, and have only scored 3 goals in the process. In fact, they have the worst away record of any team in all of the big European Leagues.

How complacent would we have to be to lose tomorrow?

  1. Today’s results are a reminder of just how hard the PL is to win. Every game is a mental challenge. Chelsea will have a dip, it’s just a matter of who steps up. Still too early to write any of the top six off in my opinion.

  2. The fact that Burnley scored only one goal on the road so far thus season in the PL and has the worst away record in the whole of Europe Leagues make them the more dangerous to content with by Arsenal tomorrow at the Emirates Stadium. For, Burnley will be motivated by the big occasion of playing against a super club like Arsenal to do something positive about their dismal away record this season in this game by causing an upset in game.

With the surprise result we’ve seen today at Anfield where Swansea City wreak a havoc there today’s afternoon against Liverpool to record the most against the form book away win there and ran away with all the three points at stake in the game, and also with the Stoke City attempts to end Man Utd 8 match unbeaten run in all matches but for Wayne Rooney’s audacious last gap free kick equaliser that save Utd from bluses. These two results of today in the PL should sound a note of warning to the Gunners not to take their beating Burnley tomorrow for granted. But they should 100% prepared themselves physically, technically, tactically and mentality for this match and not underrate the resolves of Burnley to do a Swansea to us

Barring the outcome of the late game between Man City and Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad, Arsenal have a chance of moving up to the 3rd positio in the table after beating Burnley tomorrow. And who knows, they might even have another chance to move to 2nd after the conclusion of the Man City vs Tottenham game now going on.

  4. Liverpool loss should be a motivation to our boys.
There’s a possibility of us going second and chasing Chelsea if our boys can play their part as it seems Sp*ds might not win the way they played the first 45 minutes against City.
