Who will be Arsenal’s striker at Ostersund with Lacazette out?

Now there is a turn up for the books! Arsenal’s striker in the early rounds of the Europa League was Olivier Giroud, in partnership with Theo Walcott as he partner, but now both of those have been sold. Aubameyang is cup-tied for this competition and now Lacazette is out for six weeks after knee surgery.

This really only leaves Danny Welbeck as our only recognised centre-forward and he has only just returned from injury and has only had a cameo performance lately. I guess Wenger could move Mkhitaryan into the centre and pair him with Alex Iwobi, and Mesut Ozil behind.

There is always Aaron Ramsey, who was injured for the Tottenham game but scored a hat-trick against Everton the week before. That is if he is recovered enough to play on Thursday!

What about Sead Kolasinac as a wild card, he likes to take wild shots when he gets a chance, or even our Jack. I’m sure he would love to have a chance to play in the middle.

Okay, I’m clutching at straws now, but how would you set up our forward line without our two main strikers?

    1. This is not the first time we hear such news. Look back for the last five/six years when a player is in good form, either he is ”injured” or ”sick” Giroud,Walcott,Ozil,Cazorla,Ramsey,Jack and others are victims. Following this, Arsenal either will be defeated or draw but before that they were in good form…when Lecister won epl trophy this was what happened.I just dont know why Wenger dont want it….I know he could do it…SOMETHING IS WRONG!

    2. Osterund have only recently been promoted to swedish first tier yet we are talking like theyre a world beater… this sort of mentality where ‘there is no such thing as an easy game’ only gets players into the wrong mindset…. no complacency but there are probably 11 internationals who will play for Arsenal that day and they need to finally act like it and think like it.
Welbeck is an England INternational… Nketiah is an England youth international
With the players in the squad we should be thinking of scoring 2 or 3 goals and ensuring we have an easier match at Emirates…

      1. Neil, sound rational approach. What Arsenal have available should be good enough to win, if the players turn up.

    1. Unbelievable! Having to rely on Welbz for Europa…..this really is a pisser & could only happen to us!!!
Sold Giroud & Walcott… buy Auba (ineligible for Europa) Lacca gets injured…..great… nice one Arsene ?
Are.we not meant to win anything this season?????

      1. Wats wengers’ fault here now…didn’t he buy d world class strikers u requested?hasn’t he sold Walcott & giroud DAT r not worth d red&white?should he be blamed for lacazette’s injury? Let’s quit blames…Leicester did it wit virtually unknown committed players. Huh!

  1. What’s the point of even having a striker, when you don’t even pass to him? All he gets to do is watch his team mates pass the ball backwards, and sideways! I think Wenger’s main tactic is to bore the opposing defence into losing concentration.

If I were the Ostersund manager I wouldn’t even use a keeper in the first half. He should know we won’t have a shot on target in that half, so use 11 outfield players, and press us like crazy.

    1. Don’t you dare underestimate my Danny Boy

His teacher was used to be the king of Old Trafford, Ruutje Van Nistelrooy:

  2. Welbeck i suppose.

Hopefully, we will have enough to win this round….BUT (and its a huge BUT even bigger than Kim Kardashian’s BUT) innit

Problem is even if we go to the next round we still won’t have either Lacazette or Aubameyang because Lacazette is out for 6 weeks minimum and Aubameyang is cup tied as long as BoRussia Dortmund is still in the competition (i think). I don’t expect Dortmund to lose in this round.

So Lacazette’s injury is a catastrophe really.

    I am so depressed.
With Wenger we are getting worse every season.
All i can hope for now is League Cup and a NEW Manager (unlikely)

  3. Lacazette must of had this injury for while, he didn’t just wake up needing knee surgery and if we knew about it why didn’t we just keep Giroud.

    1. Actually this ‘injury’ can be easily overlooked and it is a pretty small surgery. he will be back running in training before the 6 week told. arthroscopy is basically making a small hole and peeping at the knee for damage and inflammation.

  4. I would like to see a false nine again, like what Wenger used with Sanchez, what Barcelona set with Messi (in the past) and what Klopp set with Firmino:

    ……………………Ospina
    Bellerin . Chambers . Mustafi . Kolasinac
    …………………..Monreal
    ……………Ramsey . Wilshere
    Niles …………………………………Welbeck
    …………………Mkhitaryan

    ……………………Ospina
    Bellerin . Chambers . Mustafi . Kolasinac
    …………………..Monreal
    ……………….Ozil . Wilshere
    Mkhitaryan………………………….Welbeck
    ………………….Ramsey

As a false nine, Mkhitaryan or Ramsey has to drop deep and let the inverted wingers, such as Welbeck, to cut inside like Salah, Sane, Sterling and Sane. I also want to see Monreal as a DM, because he is very aggressive, pretty skillful and has decent passing skill.

      1. He is okay coz he is a disruptor for the opponent’s defenders, like Okazaki’s role in Leicester or Griezmann for Atletico Madrid

  5. ……………Ospina
    …Chamb…Musta…Holdi
    AMN…Elneny…Wilsh…Kola
    ….Nelson………..Ramsey…
    ………..Welbe/nketiah

    1. Should we be more defensive with 3-4-2-1 against a team like Ostersund? Putting five defenders for a non-top European club is an overkill for me

      1. You never know with Arsenal so that is why I went with that line up, I also would like to try a line up like this:
        ……………Ospina
        Bell…Must…Hold…Kola
        ………….elneny
        ……..Amn……..Jack
        ..Nels………………aaron
        …………Welb/nketiak

        1. well JAck and Aaron did not traveled…. So I change my 11
          ……..Ospina
          Bell…Must…Hold…Kola
          ………..Elneny
          …..Mhki………AMN
          Nels………………..Welb
          ……….Nketiah

  6. I wonder if this is why Wenger was only playing lacca for 60 minutes before taking him off, maybe something was showing up but not as serious as it turns out.

To the earlier poster, we sold Giroud to chelsea so they could loan Dortmund there man so we could land aubu, fairly short memory some fans it was only a few weeks ago.

  7. LOL!!!! I can’t stop laughing at the comments, wellbeck or no wellbeck we haven’t scored many away goals this season so it doesn’t matter, I’ll go for nil nil draw, ? yawn

  8. Oh yeah the domino effect of Arsenal transfers and there was me thinking that we got Auba for the handsome sum of money we paid for him, plus the fact that he didn’t want to play for them, I wasn’t in the negotiations so I couldn’t tell you if they said we’ll sell him to you as long as you sell Giroud to Chelsea, but yes it did pan out like the media portrayed it

  9. Le Professeur eh? Le Dunce or Le Has no idea what forward planning means. How about Le Get out of our bloody club , you damaging and ridiculous old has been? THAT is the one I would choose!

  10. He will recall Akpom back from his loan as a backup to Welbeck and Nketiah…………or play Iwobi as a striker……

  11. O yee of little faith. I hope Welbeck proves the doubters wrong and shows he has a lot to offer Arsenal. One thing for sure he gives 100% every time he plays and at the end of the day that’s what we fans are looking for. Let’s hope our Lord and master also gives a chance to Chambers,Holding and the talented AMN.

  12. We are playing a Swedish Pub Team.We should be able to play the Arsenal Ladies and win comfortably so what are we concerned about? Then again it’s not like we haven’t been here before so god knows what the NUTTY PROFFESOR will do.
Wellbeck is an England International footballer. He will most likely be Man Marked by the Swedish Chef from the Muppets. What could possibly go wrong?Better be prepared for a 0-0 at best.

  13. ………..Ospina
    Bell…Must…Hold…Monr
    ……..Elne…AMN
    Mhki…….Ozil……..Welb
    ………..Nketiah
