Why Arsenal fans should ignore Ozil to Real Madrid transfer rumours

If one of the new Arsenal transfer rumours is true and Mesut Ozil really is keen on going back to Spain and playing for his old La Liga club and if Real Madrid want him back then you might think there is not a lot that we can do about it.

That is not strictly true though, as Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board could decide not to sell even though it would mean the German play maker could leaves us and sign for another club without any money changing hands as long as he waited until his current contract is up at the end of next season.

That would not be ideal, of course, but it would mean that we kept this key player for the rest of this season and the whole of the next one. To be honest there would be no point in Madrid signing him before that because they have a transfer ban from FIFA that prevents them from registering any new players until the summer of 2018.

However, that is not the main reason I think we should ignore the rumours, reported by The Mirror. It strikes me that we often hear this sort of thing when a player is in talks over a new contract and I think these snippets of ‘news’ about a player wanting to move on are often leaked to the press in order to sharpen the pencil of the club trying to get their stats to extend their deals.

So do not be surprised if we soon hear that Ozil has signed again and has a nice pay rise to boot.

  1. Let’s be honest here as good as Ozil is for Arsenal who are not interested in winning the champions league,Real Madrid don’t want him or need him he won’t improve their team!

  2. I think if Ozil wants to move, he will move to Bundesliga. He would be a good addition for teams like Bayern Munich and Dortmund, beacuse they play with direct and quick football style, which suits Ozil the most.
